Some reviews complain about this speaker yet my results have been very good . Other gear I have purchased was damaged in shipping and I suspect this caused their problems . Those who buy these speakers need to remember they are not intended to be concert grade super heavy duty units ... if used as designed they work fine and present a great value for the price ! My recently purchased sub works very well as does the other one I bought a few years ago . I did not need to repair or modify either one , yet they are built to be easily repaired or upgraded . The bass sound is excellent and I recommend these speakers as an addition to systems lacking big woofers .

I bought two two of these and have been using them for a couple years. I read the reviews about the crossovers so I decided to pull out the speakers and check them out...they were melted! Glad I checked them before they quit working. I bypassed them and will use my active crossover to split the signal. Good speakers just watch those crossovers...

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

Hey ive used em for a 2yrs doing small outdoor events for city sound contracts. i like the weight!! easy on the back and the 1/4 inputs are cool with me. easy field repair! They bump pretty good.
perfectly light weight. I havnt had any problems with em. i was expecting to blow them and replace em with better 18" drivers. but they keep working. kinda suprised me. I have had to reglue some carpet. but thats normal for carpeted cabs after a few yrs.
im realy happy with these. i needed some single 18"s for a light portable system. thse have fit the bill and peformed better than i expected. Ive done everything from rap to marriachi to rock with them at all kinds of events and they work for me.

Still Gigging After 3 Years

By gtaus

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

Bought a pair of these subs on sale when the band was first starting out. Still gigging with them after 3 years - almost 100 gigs. One cab started rattling and I had to open up the cab. The crossover had come undone. A bit of duct tape fixed it. I've saved up my money and plan on upgrading my subs later this year. From my original PA setup, I've replace my mains, amps, and mixers. These subs are the last piece of gear I felt I needed to replace/upgrade. I won't knock these speakers. They have given me good service for 3 years. If you can afford more expensive speakers, go for it. But if the budget is tight, these have been a great value to me.

Worst Subs Ever

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

I bought two of these 18" subs, and the first time I powered them on, they sounded okay. Not good, but okay. For 2 18's I expected more. Anyway, I ran them for about an hour, and one of the subs started rattling. I looked at it and the adhesive/nails/whatever holding the walls together had come undone. The second one followed suit a week later. I returned them both and will never buy Nady again.

Cash Strapped For Subs? This Is The Solution!!

By Catch 22 rock band

from Niles, Ohio

See all my reviews

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

Ok fellow musicians, listen up. I bought one of these because I was low on cash, I have a Peavey 18" sub that kicks, but playing in a live rock band, one sub didn't cut it for both sides of the stage, so I took a chance and read the reviews on this item. Being skeptical I opened the box to find the grill was not attached at the corners, not a problem, a trip to the hardware store and some small washers did the trick, since the screw heads aren't big enough to keep the grill in place, next I took the speaker and handles out, only to find the insulation was laying on top of the speaker magnet, I took it out and disposed of it, bought 2 cans of rubberized undercoating and coated the inside of the cabinet thoroughly, the crossover problem seems to be taken care of from the factory as they are now zip tied to the board, next when taking the wires off the speaker the wires will pull out of the terminals, again hardware store fix with better quality terminals. The speakers are screwed in rather crappy, so turn the speakers a 1/4 turn and drill small holes for the screws and they will stay tight. Now a comparison to my Peavey, the Peavey goes lower in the bass frequency range, but the Nady has a nice tight bass punch to it with our kick drum, haven't had any problems so far, the sound is clean and chest pounding, I have this running parallel down to 4 ohms with the Peavey, powered by a behringer 2500 through one channel, in short, I will be buying another one of these for small clubs, but using my Peavey for bigger outdoor gigs, since the Nadys are a little more compact and 20lbs lighter. For a tight budget, these are fine for live rock music, just take the Nady emblem off the grill and nobody will know your a cheap skate when it comes to subs!

Junk....don't waste your money!

By Stuman-cdnO6

from Bowling Green, Ohio

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

OK, as the title states...these things are junk but you get what you pay for. I'm a pro sound tech and drummer for a rock band. I bought these to try for some smaller gigs and I've blown the crossover in them twice and I was only shooting minimum power to them. Even when they were working the lows were just ok and I got no thump on the kick drum and I got more low end out of my full range SP2's then I did with these things. The cabs are built cheap and the electronics are junk as well. Plus, any support from Nady when you do need to replace something is an absolute joke. Don't waste your cash...if your on a budget take a look at the behringer1800 pros....much better power rating and overall a WAY better cabinet if you need something that thumps out and are on a tight budget.

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

I'm in a low budget band that was looking for a PA. We saw this sub and gave it a try. Wow! It had great tone and thump. So, we jammed. About 15 min. into the practice we noticed smoke billowing out of the sub!

You get what you pay for...

By Wolfie-YxiZo

from Powell, WY

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

It's very pretty to behold but thats pretty much it. With a advertised frequency responce of 20-400Hz I expected alot more diversity in this sub. I'm a DJ where I play a huge diversity of music. I have it connected to a Behringer EuroPower EP2500 to insure I have more than enough power driving it. The first thing that I noticed was the excessive rattle that comes from the back of the enclosure. Its very lowd and really gets annoying if you are behind it. The second is that it does not like low frequency. It does however play rock beats decently. If your a small rock band this may be what your looking for. If you are a DJ who plays dance music you will not find it worth you time or money. Nady PSW18 is a very cheaply made speaker. Bottom line... You get what you pay for...

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

The second time my band used these subs we noticed a burning smell and finally tracked it to one of our brand new Nady subs, then smoke started billowing out the front of it. I have not taken it apart yet to see what's fried. We were playing a private party for friends and it was terribly Embarrassing, but hey, great special effects!

Happy

By Tom--3Wb9

from Tucson, AZ

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

Well, being a starting bassist and playing the bass for about a year I, was looking for something cheap and worth it. I own two of these speakers. I wanted two for gigs and to take some load off one speaker. I am using a Peavey Firebass 700, 700 watts @2ohms; 475 watts @4ohms; 275 watts@8ohms. These speakers are 8ohms each. Quality is ok, could be built a little better and in a bigger box but overall I am satisfied. The grill on one of mine rattled when I played so I took it off and fixed it to keep it from rattling. They seem to handle 475 watts well, no problems or smoke at all for me. Mid range speakers would help a lot to get the tones above 400 Hz which these don?t capture to well but they do sound good and have a deep bass tone to them. Overall for price vs. quality I like them.

These subs do just fine

By mike hudson/ Triggerhappy 2 band

from wichita falls, TX

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

I am the stage manager/drummer for a traveling country band. We play many venues outdoors and indoors. We purchased 4 of these subs and top them with 4 kustom kpc215 cabs. The sound quality is excellent and the versatility of their smaller size makes them easier to handle and transport. We did however, have to remove the crossovers, as they just wouldnt hold up. but after removing the crossovers, these subs are great for just about anywhere you want to use them. I highly reccomend them to anyone with a tight budget that wants a good sound ,and no hassles.

Deep Tone

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

I have two of the 18" subs. The first one I ordered started to smoke while I was using it. I turned it down, cut off the amp. (svt-4-pro) ,and then turned it back on again. What I smelled was electrical, but guess what, it kept right on performing, and is still going. I purchased another one to take some of the load off of it, and it works great too! Now I get cool air from the subs when I play my low B string.

good value

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

This is a fairly high-quality enclosure. I took the speaker out and repacked the enclosure with foam, and that was a huge improvement. I also installed a new crossover (it's really only hooking up four wires, and not complicated at all). Overall, the only real weakness is the crossover. The speaker is pretty solid, and I've had no problems. In fact, I've bypassed the crossover altogether in order to get "fuller range" out of it to run a drum machine (Alesis dm5) through it, and have had no problems. Considering the build quality, I don't see how you can go wrong for the price.

Comments about Nady PSW18 Subwoofer:

I bought Nady PSW18 subwoofer last month. The first gig we played was outside. We had 4 15" mains with horns and this sub. the bass was great. We used a Beheringer 5000 powered mixer and sub out into a Fender Bassman head. It really performed well, better than I expected. I would recommend it to any band on a budget.
