256 new sounds in 4 categories: Pads, loops, drums & perc., synths. Awesome sounds. If you own FM7, get it.
The sounds of the FM7 Demo drove me to buy the product. The demo sounds that you can hear live from the NI webpage don't do it justice. Download the actual product demo and fool around with the sounds. I played it alongside my TX7 (the tone generator version of the DX7) and I promptly bought the full version of the FM7 and sold the TX7. The FM7 takes the DX7 to the next level: greater polyphony, built-in effects, more oscillators. It even accepts your old DX7/TX7 sysex files and plays the sounds EXACTLY like a DX/TX, but you will immediately want to start processing those sounds through the FM7, because it sounds so much better than the original DX! Has everything if you want to twiddle with the sound, you can even change the sound sources away from the internal oscillators to an audio input source. In other words, you can run an M1 through it and, not only use the FM7's effects, you can actually FM the M1's input! You have to try it to hear what I mean. It also is great because it is both a standalone soft synth AND a VST plug-in for Cubase and the like. The interface is simple and intuitive. Sounds are super easy to load, tweak and save, even old DX/TX sysex files.
