Comments about Novation V-Station Soft Synth:
You have got to believe me when I say that analogue style soft synths do not sound better than this little beauty. It can produce some of the dirtiest lead sounds, lushest pad sounds and fattest bass sounds that I have heard to date from a soft synth. You, like myself, probaby use a particular synth to do a particular job and not really use it for much else (eg my Model-E generally doesn't play anything other than bass sounds and my Pro-53 tends to play lead, etc, etc) Well, all that stops here! This baby could very well be the only synth you need to create an entire track!! Whilst I think this is a fantastic synth and is extremely good value for money, it is not without it's down sides - mainly the fact that it has only 8 voice polyphony which can soon be eaten up (KS4/5 I believe has 16 voices - this would have been nicer but I guess it has to do with processor power) The processor power isn't the smallest I've seen, but then what do you expect for something that sounds this good? On the whole I'd say that the V-Station is well worth buying and if you love pads, leads basses and arpeggios - you'd be a fool to not get your hands on one!!
Comments about Novation V-Station Soft Synth:
The sound engine, and the sounds themselves are excellent. the interface emulates the K Station nicely, and the value is pretty good. The idea of a modular software system is very appealing to me, and this a great value, for it output. The comparable hardware would be more expensive. I believe the convienience, flexiblilty, and performance make it a great idea. I recomend this product to anyone interested in a quality software synthesizer.
Comments about Novation V-Station Soft Synth:
My initial impression of the V-Station was rather lack-luster. Sure, it has a few nice basses and leads and utilizes little CPU power. However, after just recently spending some time on Novation's KS4 hardware synth, I was left with the opinion that the V-Station is quite pale by comparison. I don't know why they limited the V-Sstation to only 8 voices, that's a shame. For the money, I'd have to recommend the Naive Instruments FM7 instead of the V-station. It features far more power and its sounds blow away the V-station in my opinion. By comparison, the V-station just sounds cheesy to me. Sorry Novation, I like your hardware, but I'm rather disappointed with the V-Station. Don?t get me wrong, it?s not a worthless piece of junk by any means, but I?d definitely say it?s over-priced when compared to an FM7. A few softsynths on the market just make my jaw drop, such as the FM7, Absynth, Reaktor, and Reason?s Malstrom. For me, the V-Station is not such an experience. I give the FM7 a score of 10. V-Station gets a 5. If all you need is an assortment of basses and some powerful monophonic leads, your score for the V-Station may be higher than mine.
Comments about Novation V-Station Soft Synth:
The V-station is a software emulation of the K-Station and A-station. The interesting thing about this is that while other hardware manufacturers are releasing vintage emulations, Novation has an emulation of current hardware. Indeed, you can interchange the patches between the A, K, and V-stations. I believe this is why they limited the polyphony of the virtual synth. Combined with a K-Station or a ReMote, the V-Station becomes much more tactile, and for performance, this is top notch. The V-Station, in my opinion, has a lot of character. It is a newer sounding character, so if you're looking for vintage analogue sounds, I'd check out other options. Also, personally, I'd prefer a K-station or an A-station to this software version. You can get K-stations second hand for maybe fifty dollars more than this.
