OVERVIEW

All the comfort to keep on mixin' through the night.

Numarks Electrowave DJ Headphones are crafted with extreme comfort for those long, extended mixing sessions. These high-quality isolating headphones are designed for DJs, built to get you in the mix and keep you there. I read many, many reviews on all different sorts of headphones as I do with anything I buy. I didn't want to spend a large amount of money this time as I already have a set of beats (waste of money) a set of cheaper pioneers and sony. I needed something that not only had a punch but good deep bass. I went to many stores to test headphones but was dissapointed with them all. I came across the numarks by chance while I was reviewing other headphones. after reading several reviews, I took a chance and ordered them. Unbelievable!! they are fantastic. the one big comment eveyone was making is that they are a bit bulky. Not for me. I only want them for dj'ing and they are excellent. they sit nicely on your head. are very snug to keep out the ambient sound and they sound amazing. they are twice as loud as my pioneers. the bass is punchy and deep so they are really nice to beat match. For not being in the general mix of all other "brand names" these headphones are fantastic

These phones look great, have nice features, feel fairly stable plus are fairly comfortable for such a physically large pair of cans. Pity they sound bad. The problem is the sound is all over the place compared to even a mediocre Sony set that cost much less. The specs claim 10 HZ to 22K Htz but Numark does not give a + or - factor. These fall off a cliff about 8K to 10K Htz, maybe by 6 dB or more. I think a response curve strip on these would look like a Six Flags roller coaster and nothing approaching a flat line or even 3dB off from 50 Htz to 12K Htz. The Numark's bass frequencies are just boom-boom-boom like a sub in the car next to you waiting at a traffic light. The bass lacks fundamental tone, but that isn't the worst of it. The upper mids are crazy hot. High frequency overtones from instruments like violins, acoustic guitars, certain percussion instruments and woodwinds are simply not there. The stacatto guitar part on "Getting Better" from "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is frankly painful to listen to on these Numark cans because of the rise in the upper mids. Another reviewer wrote these sound just like "BEATS" phones. Beats must be pretty awful headphones then. This pair of Newmark headphones will not do for me to casually listen to recordings at home, so if anyone is considering real mixing or even home recording with these things let me strongly advise against that. I don't think they are even decent DJ phones and I did commercial radio DJ work full time for 34 years. I honestly can't think of a good application for these Newmark phones and for the list price they should be dang near perfect for several applications. There are better sounding phones with a sparkly high end for a tenth of the list price of these. The specs are obviously misleading.

Comments about Numark Electrowave DJ Headphones:

Very comfortable and excellent sound. Good low end without being over done. They have surprisingly become my main mixing headphones if I can't use monitor speakers the whole time. I can get a better mix for speakers with these than any of my studio monitor headphones. They are super funny looking, but I don't wear them out and about, so don't care...

          Best Uses

          • Playing electronic drums

Comments about Numark Electrowave DJ Headphones:

I am using these Electrowave headphones to practice my drumming with electronic drum pads using Toontrack Superior Drummer and Steven Slate Drums software. I love how these headphones add beef and weight to the low end on drums. However my biggest gripe with this headphone is that it clamps down on my head such that it quickly becomes uncomfortable. Also, the midrange frequencies come across as rather jagged. I think they look a bit goofy too. One feature I really, really like with these headphones -- I wish all headphone manufacturers would do this -- is the inclusion of two detachable cables (one coiled and one straight) which attach with a twist into one ear of the phones. Sometimes I wan't coiled, however when playing an instrument, I often prefer straight because it is lighter and the cable doesn't bounce around so much. I received these free as a special promo with the purchase of a Toontrack expansion, however had I purchased these headphones I would have returned them just because of the uncomfortable head clamping issue. In comparison, my significantly more expensive Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro headphones are much more comfortable, except not nearly as satisfying in sound as these Electrowave headphones for playing digital drums. While so far I've found one application where these headphones excel in terms of sound quality, on the whole they seem to be a one-trick pony, lacking smoothness in their frequency response. If I was specifically seeking to purchase a headphone with this sound, I would look for a similarly low-ohm closed-back headphone with less of a clamping effect on my head.

Comments about Numark Electrowave DJ Headphones:

I got these for free so I can't complain. Also, there's nothing really WRONG with them. But these are very middling headphones. The bass is thick and heavy (too much so for my taste) and the rest is underwhelming. Perhaps these are good for DJing, but not for mixing, tracking or even listening to music. I use them for listening to podcasts. They do a good job of blocking out sound, too.

Packaging, look are 'impressive,' if not my style. Build quality seems ok, only time will tell. But these are both way too boomy and also have sharp mid/highs - keying right in on my tinnitus. These were a free gift with a soft synth I bought - would have been very disappointed had I dropped cash on them. I suppose if you mix with these and it sounds good, you don't have to worry about booming out your car stereo when you get it there.

These phones sound great to me. I don't know how flat a response they have (and don't really care), but I hear what I need to hear, when monitoring the music I am listening to. I use them primarily to break down the parts of songs the band I am in are working on, and they do a sufficient job at that. No issues with these phones, and at the Stupid Deal of the Day price that I got them for, awesome!!!!!
