Numark

A serious system at the pinnacle of digital DJ performance.

Numark designed the motorized NS7FX DJ Software Performance Controller in collaboration with DJ software creator Serato. The NS7FX combines a premium mixer with 2 motorized, adjustable-torque turntables, real vinyl, and a professional audio interface to deliver performance to satisfy the most hardcore turntablist. The NS7FX also includes powerful effects controls for hands-on manipulation of the wide range of effects built into the included Serato ITCH software.

A full complement of premium faders, knobs, buttons, and Numark's new Strip Search virtual needle-drop control integrates seamlessly with ITCH. The NS7FX exchanges turntable and control information with your Mac or PC at more than 10 times standard MIDI resolution, resulting in a rock-solid hardware/software system that feels as good as it looks.

Developed in partnership with Serato:
The NS7FX was a collaborative development effort with Serato to deliver the finest computer DJ experience. It is a one-to-one, hands-on control instrument for Serato ITCH.

Because it was designed for ITCH, the NS7FX's set up time is the bare minimum. No tweaking, no mapping – just plug and perform.

Perfect feel:
Forget your experiences with other controllers. The NS7FX has 2 motorized, high-torque aluminum turntable platters. The turntable controls feature modern and classic settings that alter the feel to model the feel you prefer. 7" legit vinyl records with 45rpm adapters sit on real slipmats. There's no simulation here—the NS7 is the real deal.

Solid, rugged, rubberized buttons and knobs complement a high-precision, replaceable CP-PRO crossfader and D-TYPE line faders for an unquestionably high-quality feel. Numark selected the CP-PRO digital-VCA crossfader because it is outstandingly durable with low wear for a long life. It has a solid feel that is smooth and rigid. It's only natural that Numark's finest crossfader is a component of Numark's finest controller. Numark selected high-performance, D-Type digital-VCA line faders for their rugged, long-life performance. Like the crossfader, the line faders are replaceable. The crossfader offers contour adjust and reverse adjustment, enabling you to customize its operation.

System simplicity:
Forget the mouse. Forget the keyboard. The NS7FX renders ITCH software perfectly simple to operate, with its click knob and large, backlit buttons for navigating though your music library. You'll spend less time looking at the screen and more time enjoying performing thanks to the visual feedback you get from the NS7FX's more than 100 LEDs and more than 100 hands-on controls.

The NS7FX has onboard audio outputs so it's the only piece of gear you need to connect to the PA system or powered speakers. The NS7FX outputs 24-bit, 44.1kHz digital audio to the sound system on XLRs and RCAs. The front panel contains a mic input, an RCA line input, and both 1/4" and 1/8" headphone outputs with volume control.

The NS7FX comes with an integrated laptop stand that supplies safe, secure mounting for your laptop. You can use an ultrasmall space because NS7FX elevates your laptop off the table. The NSFX effect controller mounts conveniently onto the laptop stand for integrated effects control without taking up any additional setup space.

Precision control:
The NS7FX sends control information over a USB connection at more than 10 times the standard MIDI rate. This innovative communication technique yields extremely high-precision, low-latency control.

There's nothing like dropping the needle on a record for quickly locating a point in the track. Numark took that idea and developed Numark's own modern take on it with Strip Search, the unique virtual-needle-drop touch strip. You can locate a point instantly within the track using the on-screen waveform and Strip Search.

5 hot-cue-assign buttons on each deck digitally mark your cues on the track. These marker points are recallable in ITCH and Scratch LIVE, and you can load Scratch LIVE cue points in ITCH. Numark developed an extensive Serato-style loop section on each deck for creative remix capabilities. You can choose between manual and auto-loop functions and an automatic BPM analyzer further assists loop makers. Creating automatic smart loops of any measure length is a breeze, and you can mutilate and modify to your heart's content with a variety of controls such as Doubling, Halving, Shift, and manual controls. Multiple loop banks per deck make the NS7FX a great choice for scratch and club DJs alike.

Beat matching is straight ahead with 100mm, smooth, stiff pitch sliders. Plus and minus buttons, by popular request, are back for bending. There's also a zero-point LED, so it's easy to know when you're in the middle.

Audio quality:
Numark took extraordinary care in selecting the components of the audio signal chain. The NS7FX contains a host of professional audio connectors and a multichannel, 24-bit USB digital-audio interface.

The high-definition, post-mix analog audio output features a minimized circuit path containing only one audiophile-grade bipolar capacitor. This optimized design maximizes phase coherence, ensuring that the audio is tight and punchy.

Professional appearance:
The NS7FX's dual decks flank the mixer section. Its recognizable, professional appearance is supported by a clean design in matte and glossy black. The entire unit is housed in a heavy-gauge, industrial-strength metal casing that is ready for the torture of travel.

Serato ITCH software:
Serato ITCH is already familiar to you if you use Scratch LIVE. The new program builds on Scratch LIVE's popularity and adds some new key features. ITCH doesn't require a timecode interface, so the system can be as simple as, say, the NS7FX and your computer! Since ITCH makes timecode a thing of the past, you won't need to worry about needles skipping or vinyl wearing out. You can load your Scratch LIVE crates, loops, presets, and cue points seamlessly in ITCH. The NS7FX also works with most other MIDI DJ software and it supports iTunes.

ITCH is a high-performance portable music system with internal mixing and platter-style playback control. Because it's designed specifically for use with hardware control, ITCH has a clean information display.

ITCH handles audio processing and mixing including channel fading, EQ, crossfading and track trim, which are processed for outstanding control and management of your tracks, ease of recording your set, clip-proof gain management, and BPM calculation using the power of your computer's processor.

Serato's unique color waveforms provide an easy identification of sound and changes in the track. ITCH can set and store cue-points. It offers 3-range pitch control: ±8%, ±16%, and ±50% with Key Lock for manipulation of pitch and tempo independently.

ITCH has library management tools for backup and restoring your music. Advanced input and mix recording capabilities include recording your mix or just the aux input for sampling. The software supports AIFF, WAV, MP3, and AAC audio files.

The History function in ITCH keeps a comprehensive record of every track played and exports sessions from your history to 'txt', 'csv', or 'm3u.' ITCH also has a Loop Roll function that provides a looping effect where the playhead jumps back to normal time when you release the loop. Built-in key support ensures that ITCH reads key tags from MP3 files and displays them in the key column in your library.

Comments about Numark NS7FX Motorized DJ Software Performance Controller:

If you are a traditional vinyl DJ, this could not be an easier tool to transition into the digital world. I normally have to use two or three turntables in my setup but with this I can dang near do it all on ONE which opens up so many more new possibilities. There are only a couple features that I wasn't able to figure out on my own, but the manual is decent and there are hundreds of youtube videos for every nook and cranny of this machine.

Other people have mentioned it, but this thing weighs A TON! I personally think that is a good thing because it doesn't wobble or shake even slightly when you are really rockin it. While I think this piece would hold up well without a case, I don't want to take a chance that the faders and knobs can hold up. I definitely recommend buying a road case for this because it is so heavy, you WILL bump it into things carrying it around!

I do like the Serato ITCH software that it comes with, but I wish that you could upgrade it to SCRATCH somehow. ITCH isn't quite as customizable as SCRATCH and some of those extra tools would be handy. Overall, for the DJing that I'm doing now, this thing can definitely get the job done and has stepped my DJing up considerably while at the same time, simplified a lot of the unnecessary distractions of DJing with a traditional turntable setup.

Comments about Numark NS7FX Motorized DJ Software Performance Controller:

I was always an old school DJ with vinyl and turntables then I went to laptops and digital music. That was a pretty easy transition but owning the NS7FX makes it even easier! It is heavy but it feels solid, not like a cheap toy.

Comments about Numark NS7FX Motorized DJ Software Performance Controller:

I had mine in use for two years already and I have to confess,.. this machine it's just beautiful and I'm in love with it!!. :)
I do agree with Jake's review about the software issues, but because I only ride with Serato Itch,.. and coming from the "Old School" of 2 turn tables,.. is not a problem for me. ;)
This machine is like the 80's boomboxes.. Heavy, clear sound, Accurate with precise functions bottoms and long lasting (no doubt).
There's (NO DELAY) at all between the time you move the vinyl or press a bottom and the response of the software. There's a lot of mini computers and good programing going on behind those panels!. lol
Absolutely perfect for private events and mobile DJ.
I was wondering like Jake said, about the mixer.. and I never understood why they make this "AWESOME" machine, with only 2 channels!?!. Then I found that they make the new (( Numark NS7 II )).. Okay guys, problem solved!!!. :D
Now I'm saving $$$ for that one. But I'm not sure I want to sell this one, because like I said before,.. I'm in love with it!!! LOL. Maybe I'll put this one with my collection! :D
Thank you Numark people for listening our voice and provide the best!. Don't quit on that cool and solid aluminum construction, with real vinyls too!
    Amen. ( That's my DJ prayer) ;)

Tremendous Machine with Several Glaring Flaws

    By Jake Giossi

    from Anchorage, AK

Comments about Numark NS7FX Motorized DJ Software Performance Controller:

If you know and love Serato DJ software, or if you're from a traditional "2 turntables and a Mixer" DJ background, you will absolutely LOVE the NS7FX. If you're coming from another controller or DJ software background, you may find the NX7FX to be a disappointment. I am currently waiting to see what Numark announces for NAMM 2012, and if no major new upgrades/replacement products for the NS7FX are announced, I'm going to experiment with adding in 2 NI Kontrol X1 Traktor surfaces to work with my NS7FX and get Traktor Pro 2 running on it.

Don't mean to sound like a whiner or a hater, just letting you know my personal opinion. I suggest demoing the unit before you buy it!
I have a love/hate relationship with my NS7FX. I recently switched to it from a Native Instruments' Traktor Kontrol S4 unit with an additional Kontrol X1 interface because I liked how big, heavy-duty and well laid-out the controls were. Plus, the whole unit just SCREAMED "professional."

To touch on the positives, this unit is BIG, and it's HEAVY. The entire thing is made from metal and is a sexy-looking machine. The size of it allows for the buttons to be large and to be well-spaced (unlike so many other DJ Controllers on the market today...the S4, X1 and Pioneer DDJ-S1 included). All of the faders, knobs and buttons are very smooth when working them, and all look and FEEL heavy-duty. The Strip-Search controls are very quick, responsive and are huge time-savers. The inputs/outputs are all professional, heavy-duty, and adequate enough to allow you to add in several additional CDJs/Tables or FX units easily. Sound quality is crisp and pristine to my ears, while being plenty loud and punchy. I simply run the outputs directly to my powered PA speakers and I'm pounding whatever venue I'm playing at in minutes. Setup is SUPER easy...simply plug in the 2 USB cords to your computer and the power to the wall, turn on the unit, start Itch and you're DJing.

One of my biggest loves about this unit is the motorized platforms with REAL 7" vinyl on them. In my opinion, it's a more responsive feel using the NS7FX than using real turntables running a DVS system. Itch never hiccups, it just works flawlessly. Plus, the large platters allow much more responsive scratching and beatmatching than you'll find on any other DJ controller. I love how you have the ability to turn the turntable motors on/off, and you have knobs to control the spool-up and brake speeds. Another very neat feature is the Bleep/Reverse switch. While I don't use this feature often, it's so nice to have it available.

The NSFX unit is compact, reponsive, and gives highly tactile control of all 13 of the effects built into Itch 2.0. It seems to be sturdy enough in its construction, and it's a very handy control surface. Many DJs have complained about the integrated laptop stand and how the NSFX screws onto the stand, but I don't have any issues with it. The stand has been plenty sturdy for me, and I've had no stability issues, even while DJing during an earthquake that struck us

All in all, the unit is very well-built, well-designed, and very solid...

...but it has some glaring issues that are preventing me from falling hopelessly and endlessly in love with it.

For starters, with the new Itch 2.0 software, Itch allows you to have 4 decks running now. Sadly, the NS7FX only allows control of 2 decks, as well as only being a 2-channel mixer. Coming from 4 decks in Traktor Pro 2 to only 2 decks in Itch 2.0 is something I've been struggling with since I first got the NS7FX. Second, the unit doesn't feature a Filter knob...which drives me freaking crazy, since I use mine quite a bit. Third, Itch 2.0 introduced Serato users to the new SP-6 sample player...but the NS7 has no way of controlling it. Therefore, you must use a mouse/touchpad to trigger samples, which really takes away from the utility of the machine. Fourth, I'm not a fan of Itch software...I wish the NS7FX came in a Traktor flavor (like the Pioneer DDJ-S1, which works with both Itch and Traktor). Lastly, while Numark and Native Instruments claim the NS7 is fully compatible with Traktor and other products, it is a HUGE pain to get it to work with other DJ programs. Not impossible, but not easy...and it's quite time-consuming initially.
Top-notch. There's really nothing to talk about here...the unit is built to withstand the rigors of gigging, travel, and mishaps. While I wouldn't want to drop it or spill any liquids on it, I have no doubts it would continue to work if such things were to happen to it.
It's pricey, but primo and professional. And for a little more money, over the other competing DJ controllers, you sure are getting a much more heavy-duty (all metal) unit, as well as the spinning platters. Numark has added in a lot of great functionality, but already the unit is starting to show its age with the release of Itch 2.0 software and the NS7FX is desperately in need of an overhaul or replacement product (NS8FX, perhaps?).

    Top of the Line

Comments about Numark NS7FX Motorized DJ Software Performance Controller:

    I love it. Get one.
Everything you could want in a set of turntables. From the ability to change between fader stop/star, adjust the time of stop/start, pitch bend, and ghost loop, the NS7 can handle any demand a professional DJ can throw at it.
All of the parts are well built. I have no problems with the sound output or any of the materials. High quality construction, has held up very well in the year that I have had it. However, my advice to anyone who buys this: BUY A CASE, JUST IN CASE. Numark makes one specifically for this that I bought before I started gigging with it. Essential to facilitate transportation and ensure that your investment stays safe.
You pay for what you get. If you want the top of the line, be prepared to shell out the big bucks for it. If you're serious about your craft, you will not regret your purchase.

    Awesome... until it breaks.

    By DJRockit

Comments about Numark NS7FX Motorized DJ Software Performance Controller:

I purchased my NS7 in March 2010 and in August the strip search on my unit started to malfunction. I called Numark support on 8/13/10 and sent it off. My NS7 returned to me on 9/9/2010. BUT when I open my box, I realized that my unit's platters had not been tightly secured, and had been flopping around while loosely threaded on the spindles. While testing my returned unit, I noticed that, A: My platters now wobbled, did not feel the same, and my left deck made a squeaking noise when back spinning quickly. AND, B: The original problem with the strip search had not been repaired. So?.I called Numark and got a new Return Authorization and a promise from a manager that it would be back to me quickly, and that it would be tested before leaving this time. It?s now been almost 12 weeks since I originally sent off my unit and I?m losing patience. I can tell the phone techs are growing impatient too (its getting harder to get them on the phone). I?ve been told that my unit is repaired and it?s in testing. Maybe I?m over reacting but it has been ?in testing? at the factory for over 3 weeks. Now I?m wondering if my unit will be the same, and if not, what will happen then? Probably more of the Numark service department telling me what I want to hear, and blowing me off.
