Comments about Olympus LS-7 Linear PCM Recorder:
As stated earlier, when it worked, it was awesome! And I read reviews that said it was worth the extra $$$, blah blah blah. It's better than this one or that one, Well after the purchase, service, postage, etc we're well over $400. not to mention aggravation and dissappointment , and 4 SD chips I have.... it really sucks! So if the LS-7 or any other one is made like this BEWARE! My next one will definately not be a Olympus.
Confusing. Has a lot. Maybe too many. The auto record level does work great, I'll give em' that. An to echo another users review (Jeff) about the Steinberg software included and registering the product ...WOW! He nailed it. They go out of their way to make it confusing and they basically don't want anything to do with you. I called support and they just about hung up on me and wouldn't answer a question about the version that came with the unit. I didn't know, they didn't care ,so I tossed it and deleted it. So why even include it???
How can there be quality with a unit made like this? When it works properly, the recordings were amazing. Now my LS-10 is little over 3.5 yrs old and has been treated with nothing but kit gloves. LS-10 ? I thought this was about an LS-7. Exactly, Olympus doesn't even make the LS-10 anymore Here one day and gone the next. Lucky me. The recordings were amazing, CD quality. I used it for band practice just sitting there in room and let it's do it's thing. I also recorded gigs. Just set it on an amp or wherever you could to get a good balance and used w/ an auto setting it was great. Then it went flakey. I thought it was the SD cards so I started using different ones (new )and still NG. One gig was a reunion gig which was unbelievable. I recorded the whole thing, the unit looked like it was working perfectly and I did not get ONE NOTE. I was so so pissed ! So I contacted Olympus and sent it to them and they charged $80+ and they upgraded the firmware and it took a couple of weeks. Big whoop. SD cards still don't work and I sent a couple to have them test , 1 was bad (brand new) and the others were good, the ones I used for quite a few times. The onboard 2 gig mem works, but the AC socket is now loose and you can lose pwr very easily if the unit is even touched. Works great on battery (2-AA) Needless to say I'm very dissappointed.
Where's the value? I don't think I got any. $300 is a lot of cash for me. I expected quality for years to come and did not get it. My LS-10 has not been abused in anyway and it has totally let me down. I hope others that own one got more value than me. I would not reccomend any Olympus product if they make things like this. No quality. No value. No way.
