A high-resolution mixer that lets you monitor and record your outboard gear directly to DAW via USB 2.0.

The MultiMix 8 USB 2.0 is a compact tabletop mixer providing USB 2.0 technology for ultra-fast, low-latency, 24”bit/44.1”96kHz (with high-end A/D and D/A conversion) multichannel audio recording straight to your computer. Designed with low-noise analog electronics, it lets users take advantage of 100 studio-grade 28-bit digital effects. Whether used for mobile or studio recording, the MultiMix 8 mixing console makes recording high-quality audio to your computer fast and easy. Bundled with award-winning Cubase LE software for optimal results.

The MultiMix USB 2.0 8-channel mixer provides four high-gain mic/line (XLR and 1/4" balanced) inputs with phantom power, 2 stereo balanced 1/4" (4 total) line inputs, an Aux send that can send to either onboard or external effects, and a stereo Aux return. There is also an RCA stereo 2-Track input and output.

It sends 10 signals via USB 2.0: each of the eight input tracks, plus the left and right channels of the final stereo mix. You can record all eight inputs plus the main mix, which can be recorded with effects.

If you want to bring external audio sources into a recording or live mix, you can do it in several different ways. Using the 2-Track In (RCA), you can
add a tape deck, ADAT, CD player or other source to the mix. The 2-Track In also can be used to entertain the audience with a CD as the band is setting up for a live show. The Aux Returns
can be used as additional audio inputs when you are not using them for effects.

  • 10 direct inputs (4 XLR/TRS + 4 - 1/4" (stereo L&R) + 2 RCA) for recording and 2 return inputs for monitoring
  • High-gain mic/line (XLR and 1/4" balanced) inputs with phantom power, 2 stereo balanced 1/4"

So i bought this mainly to record drums but found out soon enough that even though is boast 10 inputs you really only have control over 4 of the ten inputs, there is no mic/gain for the stereo inputs or the main mix inputs just volume knobs. You can still get a decent mix but it need more channels. 2nd the drivers, if you have 64 bit vista you will need to download the drivers from their website.3rd this thing works when it wants to, it tends to overload even with the latency real low. it shutters randomly and tends to skip when using it as a sound card, if you are listening to say Itunes or watching youtube. I tried hooking it up a tape machine up too and i really couldn't get the gain loud enough. pre amps are decent, cubase is nice too but the knobs are real cheap and flimsy and there are no xlr outputs. the mixer is not my favorite. I had a behrigher mixer that was half the price and it was worked much better. I expected more from alesis. really you are paying for the multi track recording and it really isn't that good. Save your money buy something with more inputs and better drivers.

I have used this board for recording and it has been great because I can plug it into computers that are not nearly as fast as mine and I can still make quality recordings. This board is great for those musicians who do not have 1000 dollars to spend on computer stuff and software. I also bought a pistol case for it and it fits wonderfully in it with room for patch cords and the power supply.

This thing is amazing. The built in preamps are great. Amazing quality, and you can record all 8 tracks at a time, 10 if you also record the mix. Good for drums, because you can easily use a graphic eq with each track. The software included is great. The built in effects are great and amazingly real.

Multimix Firewire features with USB Convenience

Well from the title, you can guess what I'm about to say. Until I found this gem, I was only considering the Multimix Firewire line due to the fact that the USB line could only send the mix over USB. Not so with the USB 2.0 model. All channels are sent over USB to the computer with a 2 channel mix being returned for monitoring. It works great. Drivers are a must, and they are only included on the CD. As of this writing, they were not on the Alesis website. Very pleased with the ASIO low latency recording/monitoring. I was running about 4ms each way with running a channel through Guitar Rig 2, and Reason going to the mix.Twice however, the unit stopped sending audio to the laptop for about a second. This may have been an issue with the laptop - and I have only seen it twice. Who knows. Just like the Firewire version - No mute or solo buttons. Other than that - I think it's great.

I also bought the AKG Pereption 200 and the ART Tube MP Studio pre-amp. Together they deliver a warm, full sound on both vocals and accoustic instruments. First thing I did was download the newest drivers for the mixer. Next thing I did was arm all 10 tracks and record a session at 96,000 32 bit sample rate with Adobe Audition 3.0. I expected some lag or problems and I was amazed at the results. No lag, lots of head room and we were recording our first song within 15 minutes. I would suggest that your computer is really fast before trying this. This mixer has lots to offer at a reasonable price. The only thing that disappointed me was pushing the effects knob to choose an effect. The knob seems a little bit fragile. I would recommend recording clean and adding the effects either on the computer or through the bus. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this mixer!

Incompatible x64 drivers

This is an excelent product. DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON USING IT WITH A 64 BIT OS. No drivers exist for 64 bits OS only 32 bit drivers exist. Other than that it's an very compact but powerful piece of equipment.

Perfect for me

The Alesis MultiMix 8 USB 2.0 8-Channel Mixer is perfect for me. I have a home studio. I play guitar, bass and keys. I use a drum machine or loops for beats. I use ACID Pro 6 to record on my computer. My old set up had an analog mixer feeding into a MBOX that fed into the computer. The Alesis MultiMix 8 USB 2.0 8-Channel Mixer streamlined everything for me. I saved a ton of desk space and upgraded the quality of my recordings by eliminating the old mixer and MBOX.The Alesis MultiMix 8 USB 2.0 8-Channel Mixer is also really easy to use, while not limiting my I/O options. This mixer is great!
