OVERVIEW

(Open Box) 12 Inputs, and a USB audio interface built-in.

The Behringer XENYX Q1202USB mixer is made to handle live gigs, and provide you with the required tools necessary to capture professional-quality recordings. Along with its built-in USB/audio interface, and œone-knob mono channel compressor, the XENYX Q1202USB mixer comes with enough recording and editing software to turn your computer into a complete recording studio. The largest of the XENYX Q Series, The XENYX Q1202USB is built for versatility and tone, and is equally at home at your live gig or in the studio. This compact mixer provides 4 mono channels with phantom-powered XENYX mic preamps, neo-classic 3-band British-style EQ, plus 4 stereo channels.

XENYX Mic Preamps
All XENYX mixers have one thing in common; great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. XENYX preamps offer 130dB of dynamic range with a bandwidth that extends from below 10Hz to well above 200kHz. As a result, XENYX mixers can reproduce a cleaner, transparent performance.

British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ˜70s changed the sound of rock and roll. Without them, the British Invasion might not have even happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQs on all XENYX mixers are based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to saturate signals with warmth and character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit forgiveness and superb audio quality.

USB Audio Interface
Modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. But how do you get all that music flying around your brain into a computer? Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable. Now any signal source connected to the mixer can be recorded straight to your hard drive.

Included Software
Behringer has put together a massive software download that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). You'e ready to go live on your PC or Mac right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q1202USB Mixer:

The XENYX Q1202USB mixer by Behringer has been greatly overlooked in the world of compact, simple USB mixers, though I am unsure why.

It's got fairly simple controls (although some labels are different than previous mixers I have used, and the instructions are all but useless in the majority of cases) and they all seem quite responsive.

I use mine primarily for podcasting with friends, and using decent mics we have achieved a quality far and beyond the vast majority of podcasts out at the moment.

My only qualm is that the USB input jack is somewhat loose, and feels as though it's about to break sometimes, however, it has been pulled off the table several times for a 3-4 ft fall onto carpeted floor and has retained 100% functionality.

If you are a podcaster who likes to record multiple people at once and doesn't have the coin to buy an expensive fire-wire setup, this is your girl. **Be warned, however, that, like any USB mixer, tracks recorded through different channels on the mixer WILL NOT record as separate tracks in your DAW. This can only be achieved via much more expensive fire-wire mixers. You will have to make sure your separate channel levels are set evenly before recording. (I recommend recording at a lower volume because of this)**

All in all, I believe this is an incredibly solid option for podcasting, small bands, or home recording, especially given the price tag. I love mine, though I do feel I will eventually upgrade when I have the funds to do so.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q1202USB Mixer:

Fair warning, I haven't used half the features on this board and probably won't. With that out of the way, it's pretty straightforward when it comes to inputs. You've got all the controls you need down the line and tweaking them to get the ideal sound is easy. And it sounds pretty good. I also have an Art Tube MP Studio preamp, which I think sounds great. This comes close in terms of tone, which impressed me. The two problems I have are that it's not flat on the bottom and wobbles, something I've heard before about this and other Behringer mixer models in the budget range, as if they were designed that way. Second, the switches that route the sound are confusing. The instruction manual was essentially a diagram of what knob/port did what, and was completely unhelpful. You can listen to the inputs and not send it to USB/analog out for recording, listen to USB/RCA input (your computer's output usually) and record the inputs, but I haven't found a way to record from the mics while listening to both them and the computer output. Since that was something I specifically wanted to do, it kind of takes a couple points off.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q1202USB Mixer:

I had the earlier version of this mixer, but recently upgraded my entire studio and decided to go with the USB mixer this time. I plugged it in, my DAW recognized it, I selected it in the dropdown menu and it worked fine.
It's dead quiet as far as preamps go. I haven't logged much time on it yet, but so far it seems like a great mixer. I recommend that you stick some rubber feet to the bottom of it as I almost pulled it off into the floor just by adding the weight of some mic cables I plugged in, it's a lightweight, slippery little thing, so be careful.

Yep, it's too early to judge but first impression is favorable. Played at an outdoor function in a pavilion. connected to a Fender expo pa and worked well. Had four mics and a Fishman plugged into it.
