Comments about Pioneer DDJ-WEGO3 Compact DJ Controller with iOS Compatibility:
As a mobile DJ for over 15 years, I have used many evolutions of DJ gear. I currently use the American Audio VSM4 to run Virtual DJ on a regular basis. However, I was recently asked to play for a friend's wedding on the other side of the country and no way my big gear was traveling with me on an airplane. I purchased the WeGo3 as a compact option that would fit in my laptop knapsack.
The soundcard in the WeGo3 seems to do a pretty nice job (We will see how it does w the big JBL speakers) and the WeGo features, while basic, will get the job done. It pairs well with Virtual DJ, allowing me to control the software without having to resort to the mouse. Samples and effects are available which is important to my style. The jog wheels are responsive. A single microphone and headphones are possible. Not many bells and whistles but for a beginner, for someone who needs something compact & lite weight, or as an adjunct to other gear, I think it's great. I haven't tried it yet with my iPhone or a tablet but there is a stand built in for that purpose.
The hookups for headphones / speakers out are unusual for DJ gear in that master out is RCA like home gear and headphones can be 1/4" or 1/8". The mic line is 1/4". My one concern is that the plastic housing for the WeGo will not hold up to the kind of travel it's compactness invites. I've only had the unit a week so I have to wait & see on this issue.
All in all, while the price seems a bit steep for what it is (a VSM 2 costs a little less), if you need something compact for travel that will put out decent sound and let you scratch / use samples / use effects, the WeGo3 does it very well.
