A modern music-production marvel designed to end your PC woes.
Tired of trying to convince your PC to handle all your production needs? Spent your last weekend fighting to get an interface to simply work without crashing your system? Fed up with latency issues? Then you're ready for the OpenStudio OMX.
The OMX is not a computer trying to be a musical instrument. The OMX looks and feels like a piece of audio gear and is designed from the ground up to be just that. It utilizes industrial-strength computer hardware to allow you to use whatever software or plug-ins you like. Everything about the OMX is about making music. From the rugged rackmount chassis to the integrated audio I/O and intuitive user interface, the OMX says music production.
The custom Open Studio graphical user interface makes operating the OMX easy and quick. It allows you to access applications, control panels, and other functions through the Open Labs Controller one-touch screen for rapid and exact control, even in live performance. The Controller One is a 15" active LCD touch screen designed for use with the OMX series integrated digital audio workstation. Additional video cards allow for the use of multiple Controller Ones.
Equipped with a specially-optimized version of Windows XP Professional, a 1.4GHz 64-bit AMD Opteron processor dedicated to production tasks, and 512MB DDR RAM (4GB maximum), you can preload an incredible number of instruments or effects making your programs extremely quick and responsive. The 80GB 7200rpm hard drive is specially selected to be used for hard disk streaming technologies such as those found in TASCAM's GigaStudio and direct to disk recording.
The OMX comes with 8 - 1/4" I/O, 2 XLR ins with high-fidelity preamps, 2 XLR balanced outs, S/PDIF digital I/O with 2-channel PCM, and MIDI I/O. It also supports SCMS copy protection control, surround-encoded AC-3 and DTS, 7.1 surround with bass management software, and boasts 36-bit internal DSP digital mixing/routing. +4dbu/-10dBV operation can be individually switched by software control. Word Clock I/O delivers sample-accurate device synchronization. Standard sample rates up to 24-bit/96kHz deliver pristine audio quality and higher rates are possible with available upgrades.
The OMX can host and play virtually all plug-ins including: VST, VSTi, VST2, Dxi, DX, and RTAS formats. The OMX in most cases can play at least 16 plug-ins with effects simultaneously. The upper limit is substantially more depending on the plug-ins, number of effects, and processor speed. It can also run virtually all Windows compatible music applications including Nuendo, Cubase, V-Stack, Reason, Orion Pro, Sonar, and many others. Optional digital ADAT is available with up to 32 channels making the OMX the ultimate studio-in-a-box.
36-bit embedded DSP enables the use of a software driven patch bay and router for all analog and digital I/O, providing extremely fast throughput for low-latency software monitoring. A single unified control panel provides settings for clock and sample rates, buffer sizes, and individual signal levels for every input and output. Adjustable +4dBu/-10dBV pad controls and digital I/O controls are also provided. All controls are easily accessible through most professional third-party audio software applications for seamless integration and operation.
The OMX also includes a removable 3.5" hard drive bay with an LCD display that allows for additional storage, a CD-RW drive, 4 USB ports (2 front, 2 rear), 2 open PCI slots, onboard 10/100T Ethernet, a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, and presentation remote.

I have had an OMX64 for several months now and I love it. First of all, the OMX64 is a complete studio in a box. I have had other DAWS before, including ones that I built, however; none of them come close in build quality. This thing is really road-worthy.Then take into consideration that it is really one of the most powerful ones available. I have not been able to crash it to date....and I really have tried. Sure you can probably install some shareware and crash it, but that is not really what this is about. What it is about is how stable it is when you are making music. To this I say it is rock solid. The sound quality is great! The all in one package is perfect and you get a lot of sounds and effects right out of the box. The only thing I don't like is that it is a bit on the expensive side, but then you get what you paid for.I highly recommend it.
