The external FireWire drive is pre-formatted for use with most computers. All you do is plug it in and you're ready to rock, or save, as the case may be.
Beyond using the PCAudioLabs 160GB hard drive for back up, it is also a great way to transport your sessions from one place to another in a durable, cost-effective manner.
The 7200rpm, Seagate hard drive inside the PCAudioLabs enclosure has a 2MB cache, a transfer rate of 400bps, and an IDE-to-FireWire IEEE/1394 interface. The drive's Coolmax housing includes a sturdy aluminum frame and metal tray with a cooling fan, and a stereo earphone jack. PCAudioLabs even includes a power adapter. You can use the drive with both PC and Mac computers.

Although the item description says it'll work with a PC AND Mac, my Mac wouldn't read it. Therefore it must need to be formatted for that. The quality of the case was the definition of cheap and flimsy. Looks like it's meant to be installed inside a PC. Description didn't say that...Maybe it worked great but I never got that far to even try it.
