Music mixing program for DJs enables you to mix in numerous file formats or direct from CD.
PCDJ DEX is a music mixing program for both beginning and professional DJ's. The software enables you to mix your mp3, ogg, wma, flac, wav files or audio CD's easily on any configuration. Long-standing PCDJ customers will be familiar with the Classic Red 5.2 Mode, complete with the original Red 5.2 skin. You can even import your old Red 5.2 recordcase.
Each deck has a pitch slider with a selectable range from ± 8% up to ±100% You can pre-listen to the song using headphones through the rear-out of your 3d-soundcard, with a second sound card, by splitting left and right channels or by using ASIO drivers.
The PCDJ DEX DJ software has a very advanced BPM detection that will help you synchronize your tracks. It's very easy to set a cue-point and start your song exactly where you want. Beat-matching two tracks is also made easier by using the virtual record to speed a song up or slow it down.
UPDATE NOTE: PCDJ DEX now works on both Mac and Windows. If your CD doesn't contain both versions on it, or you're an existing owner with the original Windows-only CD, you can still use the same license key in the box with the windows version to download and unlock the new Mac version from PCDJ's website.

I own Dex, use it for function DJ work. Not sure why the first reviewer slagged it off, I've never had it crash at all, though early Denon HC4500 units needed a firmware upgrade - maybe that was the problem.Running on Win7 64 bit here with HC4500 controller. Also used Numark Total Control and DJiO sound card with it in the past, no problems.Plenty of free skins available if you don't like the default interface, but I prefer the default layout myself. Dex has four playback decks, supports VST effects, has a very clever record case system including smart generated and manual lists. Can play audio CD's directly without ripping first.Good set of options for controlling sound output including autocue, autogain (very useful!), full ASIO support, automatic BPM analysis.Plenty of backup and help available, the programmer will respond to user requests personally on the support forum. Dex has been very stable for me, no issues at all.Skeptics can always download a fully working 14 day trial version from the main pcdj site, that's how I got into Dex. I'm a DJ in several clubs and bars, gigging 5 to 6 day per week at least, which I'm only mentioning because the requirements of ones tools depends on how often one uses them...honestly my requirements are high...for me dex work straight out of the box, some basic configuring like the soundcard/controller HC4500 in my case. I honestly always use the latest build since Dex develops at a speed non of the previous pcdj products could match...and while I have been a loyal pcdj user for over 10years, I must admit I have looked at other software (before using dex) and found none that could satisfy my needs... then along came dex, and while it might have been buggy in the early stages, it's now rock solid, and my only tool (no need for a backup whatsoever) every new build add improvements... latest build (till now) for instance added improved master tempo, and improved search speeds, which can only be applaud

I bought this a couple weeks ago and use it with the american audio dp2 and the Denon Hc4500. It works really well, with native support built in. I think the original poster must have used the old version, and dex is updated almost every month with new free features and fixes. I haven't had a single issue in many months. It also has timecode support and midi mapping, so its very flexible for my needs. You also choose whatever skin you want, they have many to choose from now. The next update I hear had totally automatic sync too, which I have been asking for on their message forum. I really recommend this product to any digital dj.

I have been using DEX for more than one year now along with a Denon HC-4500 and I have to agree with the other reviewer that it used to crash after only one hour of playing (at least with my Windows XP SP2 32 bit). I kept updating the software and in the last 6 months I have not seen any stability issue. Bought bundled with a controller may be worth the try.

I have been using this piece of junk for several months. Crushes after 30 minutes of autoplay with my Denon DN HC4500, the functional interface is ambiguous, hardly intuitive. Amateurish, non- professional organization of features behind an apparent attractive graphical interface.Do yourself a favor and avoid it. It is obvious that not much time was spent verifying the stability of this program with various controllers. Way too expensive for the trouble.
