Peavey Electronics and leading iPhone applications developer Agile Partners have joined forces to launch AmpKit (sold separately), an unparalleled guitar amp and effects iPhone application, and AmpKit LiNK, a high fidelity audio interface for the iPhone, iPod touch* and iPad. Together, AmpKit and AmpKit LiNK provide musicians of all skill levels with a powerful and convenient way to jam with high quality tones anytime and anywhere.

The AmpKit LiNK audio interface raises the audio fidelity bar for the iPhone platform. AmpKit LiNK is an iPhone, iPod touchand iPad interface for electric guitar, bass, or any line level source, with an output that can be connected to headphones, powered speakers or a PA.

First off this is not a Marshall, Mesa, Fender Twin, Orange or any other of your favorite amps. It is digital technology moving forward.

I think it is a fantastic tool in a quick an easy format.

I already owned an iPad2 and bought the amplink.
It performs as it should.

I use Ampkit but it does work well with amplitude.

It think it would be best suited for beginners.
If you purchase the app upgrades it provides numerous tonal opportunities.

I would use it for casual band practice, but it is not functional for changing tones on the fly.

I have plugged it into a board, amp and DAW recording and have found usable tones.

If I was in a "casual" band where I needed a singular sound and very little variation, I would consider it for it's ease of use.

The reality is that it is not enough in any serious situation.

I know that this stuff is scary and almost laughable to some of us traditionalists, but I am impressed with the technology.
Moreover, I believe that it can promote creativity.

Then I tried the iRig: the main competitor. Huge difference! It felt more solidly constructed, needed no batteries, and instantly worked with no background noise! (Well, almost none. Certainly minimal compared to the AmpKit Link) Occasionally a bit of feedback, but hazards of the trade. I used the iRig with the AmpKit app: didn't bother to switch over to the one they recommend, and it worked fine.

No contest: iRig is far superior in my experience, and worth the extra 10 bucks.

Note: Musician's Friend was phenomenal throughout both returns: got a live, knowledgeable person instantly, and they helped find a good solution both times. Great company: thanks.
Great concept: poor execution.
The first one I bought didn't work at all. Light on, nobody home.
The second one they sent worked for about a week, although with a disappointing amount of background noise. Then it slipped off the table, fell about 3" and was caught by the guitar cord. Huge feedback, so I unplugged everything, and it never worked again. Very flimsy construction.

Overpriced

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

1
This device is barely capable of getting signal into an ipod or iphone/iPad. The free App is just as lame - you get all of TWO amp models to choose from and have to buy additional ones. You'd think for the price of the interface you would at least get the higher end app.
After experiencing lots of background noise and crackling simply by touching the ipod jack I decided to open mine up (I should have just returned it but I'm also an electrical engineer so my curiosity got the best of me). The ground wire from the ipod cable was literally hanging on by one strand and the overall workmanship of the PCB assembly was pathetic.
What bothers me the most however is that at the price this thing lists for, I costed out the components and in the quantities that I'm sure this is produced in - in China no less - it can't come to near that cost in materials. And there are no top secret patented circuits in there - we're talking the most basic circuits to do the job.
I completely replaced the ipod cable with a higher quality one and got much better results. I've since had to repair it again because the guitar jack input is so stiff that it broke the trace on the PCB simply by plugging in my guitar.

It works but noise is very high, signal level is low so sound quality is very bad. I found workaround of using Link6 as preamplifier with maximum output volume.

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

There is a workaround of using preamplifier but then using a passive cable should work as well to split mic in and out will work as well.
No features in the device at all, it's just a noisy in/out separator. Features are in software and free version is very limited. Better version will cost as another device.
noisy signal for preamplifier is the worst after not working at all
cheap, if you not counting software

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

This item is a loss leader. It comes with only the most basic functions. Amp, noise gate and fuzz. No delays or any other effects. You need to go to the app store and spend more money for their "packages" with more effects. They don't tell you this until you download the app. I was extremely disappointed with this unit. At least it came with two batteries that I can use in something else. Save your money. Don't waste it on Peavey Amplink.

I researched all of the other IOS guitar based interfaces, actually trying the iRig, but this one cuts back on the feedback. I easily recorded with it using both GarageBand and Auria. It's also great for practice, and the Ampkit app was great, only drawback is the free version justs comes with one high gain amp, and a copy of the Ibanez Tube Screamer... Over all I'd say get it, you won't regret it.

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

This Ampkit connected easily to my iPad and iPhone with the addition of the Ampkit app (free on the App store). There is the free app version that comes with 2 amp options and another nominally priced app that offers more features. The free app does offer options for upgrades when a person feels the need to expand.

It's a little cumbersome to hook up with the various plugs/cords for the guitar cord and headphones. Once set up though, it works just like they say. I often have to practice with headphones in order to not disturb others. I could do this with headphones on my amp but hauling the amp to various rooms in the house was a pain. This small Ampkit allows me to use it anywhere and makes it convenient for practice when traveling without hauling the amplifier with me.

The software takes a little time to figure out all it offers but it's not difficult.

This is a wonderful tool. No delay between the guitar strums/picks and the sound in the headphones. This gives you the "in-the-studio" feel that's difficult to achieve in settings where you're unable to play loud.

I recommend downloading backing tracks to your iTunes as you're able to import them into the app. Truly a remarkable way to rehearse or jam over you're favorite songs.

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

I was expecting an input jack that was sensitive to motion, like I read on other reviews. That being said, I very carefully inserted the guitar plug into the unit. With a longer cable, it is prone to crackling as the cable moves. I weighted down the end of the cable closest to the interface and was able to use it to achieve a nice clean sound. You can achieve reasonable recordings on Garage Band, but you have to be careful and treat it very delicately. For some reason, I could not hear the different "amps" on Garage Band while live, only after they were recorded. The microphone input could be heard live, however. That means I need to use my own effects before sending it to the iPad. This is more of a software issue and not the fault of the interface. That being said, I would buy it again for the sale price that I paid.

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

I'm a professional keyboardist, but i'm recently picking up the guitar, so I picked up this unit as something to start out with. I dowloaded one of the Peavey bundles and the hookup was pretty simple from my guitar with a 1/4 jack to this unit, then to my iPad with the 1/8 jack. But the only thing I wish was different about this piece is the 1/8 that you can monitor with your head phones or connect to your mixer. I wish they could have made that a 1/4 out as well. It would make hooking up to mixers or direct boxes much easier, but you can always purchase a 1/8 to 1/4 jack cable and call it a day. But over all I'm happy I picked up this unit. Very funny to play with.

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

Overall a good buy, one I would make again IF the unit breaks, which is the only thing keeping it from a 10 for me, I'm pretty sure even with my over handling tendancies it still won't have the life it should have for a quality product. Maybe if they put the thing in a sturdier case and made a dedicated on off switch it would correct the problem, i am pretty sure part of the jack's issue is they wired that extra pin to it to turn the unit on with. My thoughts anyway.
Works VERY well, no feedback, I have used a few of the 'free' Apple apps with it, I do think the Peavey one is the best with it
Although it has amazing sound, I am NOT impressed by how fragile the unit seems, or by the fact that the thing powers itself on by the jack that seems to be the worst as far as seemingly "breakable". Now, the thing hasnt broken and may never, but it has crackled popped and fizzled until I went ahead and dedicated one specific guitar 1/4 cord it (one that seemed to fit well: another slight issue), left it in all the time, and now I just pull out the AAA batteries to turn the thing off. The headphone jack does not seem to have this issue, all jacks seem to fit it fine (used 3 different headphones) and they don't crackle or 'feel' off.
For the price, it is amazing. Gotta remember, this thing (even with the FULL version of the app) is cheaper than an old school stompbox distortion used to be, and if you use this only and the free app (which I actually do, it is way enough sound for my needs) it's actually cheaper. Plus you get amazing sound an playalong ability.

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

I bought this a few months ago, the wiring must be faulty because it only picks up signal if you hold it half in half out and don't move it at all. Also it was extremely quiet for every guitar/bass I tried, there is ZERO sustain when it does work. When you first strike the strings it picks up alright but within half a second it becomes silent because the signals too weak I take it.I really liked the idea of this and bought the 20 dollar app and it's completely useless in a practical sense. Just buy a headphone amp.

I strongly recommend it, great price, great product, download the app if you're unsure.. You will see the versatility!
I spent quite awhile searching Forums and reading reviews to get an idea of what my options were for jamming with headphones on. Finally I stumbled upon this.. I read reviews, wrote an email or two to people with them, and watched some youtube clips.

I love it.. simply think it's fantastic. I haven't even explored the other amp settings, i'm strictly speaking to the Peavey Valveking that comes stock. Obviously, since it was Peavey that partnered with Agile to create this interface..It's safe to probably say they stacked their corner.. The peavey is articulate and with the Tube Screamer in front of it..gets some incredible tones. The EQ is responsive and it sounds just like you're playing.. The notes don't randomly drop off, you have great sustain, it picks up all of the subtle nuances that you would hope for imho.

It interacts fantastically with soundcloud and your itunes. You're able to upload any song you want to jam over. So.. i've downloaded a number of backing tracks and am very satisfied!

I strongly recommend it, great price, great product, download the app if you're unsure.. You will see the versatility!
Seems strong, the 1/4 inch input is a little stiff, but that's about it.

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

A nice little interface, but limited unless you buy the other sounds. I would recommend this product as something extra for a young player.

Comments about Peavey AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface for iPhone and iPod Touch:

The options included are limited but useful for my purpose. I don't use it as a modeler, because I have other, better options. But it makes a great practice tool for evenings in front of the TV. I can hook it up to my iPod Touch and run my guitar or bass through it, and put an earbud in one ear and hear both my playing and the TV without disturbing my wife. It would also be good for a portable practice rig away from home.
