OVERVIEW

Advanced DSP, efficient physical design.

Peavey has always looked out for the working musician, manufacturing tools of the trade that perform at a professional level without emptying your bank account. Forty years after the introduction of the iconic SP-1 loudspeaker, Peavey has done it again with the Dark Matter enclosures. The DM112 Powered Speaker is a powered full-range enclosure designed for live sound applications appropriate to bands, DJs, installations and other sound reinforcement challenges.

Thanks to its new advanced DSP-equipped power section, the DM112 Powered Speaker brings unprecedented performance and efficiency to the powered speaker category. These high-SPL (Sound Pressure Level) enclosures feature modern styling, high output and portability to your PA system. Fan cooled for maximum reliability, the DM 112 Powered Speaker features Peavey's exclusive Quadratic Throat Waveguide„¢ technology that helps deliver pristine, precise sound.

The Dark Matter LCD display and associated selector knob allow users to choose various parameters of operation for the DSP-based EQ. This includes bass and treble control access, as well as EQ presets for different applications or speaker positions/locations. These presets provide users with a highly flexible method of configuring the powered speaker system for a specific use with minimal time and effort.

The ultra-reliable Dark Matter series enclosures are built tough with steel grilles and rugged injection-molded cabinets.

Comments about Peavey Dark Matter DM 112 Powered Speaker:

I am a sound engineer and I purchased these speakers to serve as mains for my PA system. I usually work with three to five-piece bands in small to medium venues. These speakers are very impressive and I was blown away by the clarity and sound quality the first time I turned them on. Very little EQ is needed to get things to sound good. The DSP is great, though I would have like to see the manual specify the different EQ curves available to me instead of suggesting a 'guess and check' method. I like the ability to name your presets. The LED on the front of the speaker is a nice touch, and it's great that it turns red when the internal limiting is active. This limiting is extremely smooth - barely noticable to the audience. It's nice and bright so you can see it easily fro the front of house position. Though I would like to have seen an on/off switch for this LED. The fan does a good job of keeping the amp cool, though you may notice the fan noise with quiet sets or in small venues. But it's not that noticable. The max SPL isn't the best for live sound, and it was difficult at times to maintain enough headroom. But for a moderate volume or small venue these will do just fine.
