Still Thumpin' & Pumpin'!

Features:

I wrote a review on these Peavey neo cabs about 2 or 3 years ago. Since then I'm still using the same speakers (I had 10 pairs at that time) and I've added 4 more since then. I'm putting on between 8 and 12 shows every week and I take a great amount of pride in how my music sounds and it always sounds fabulous. I attribute a good deal of the credit to Peavey. I go by the philosophy that your sound will only be as good as the weakest component in the system and the operator's knowledge and ability. THESE SPEAKERS ARE FABULOUS! I've read a few reviews that attribute crappy sound to the speakers. I can tell you unequivicably that their problem is not with these speakers. I also had some problems with speakers 'kicking' the 1/4" cables out but discovered that it was an amp/mixing issue and since I corrected the problem it hasn't happened at all since then).  Do yourself a favor, get these speakers. Also get high quality mics such as EV 767s, a high quality amp (check out the QSC G7), a quality mixing board (I like Yamaha) and definitely get a Peavey Kosmos. You can have legendary sound too. And no, I do not have any affiliation whatsoever with Peavey other than that of a pleased consumer.

Quality:

Durable, rugged, tough-as-nails. Great sound & range. Lightweight and easy to handle. What more do you want?

Value:

There's nothing close

Overall:

there are only two improvements I'd make on these speakers. I think they need a more attractive, modern cabinet and I wish they could handle more wattage.

I bought these speakers a year ago for my band (Cole Porter Band). We use these speakers for smaller venues that we play at because they are extreamly light weight and pack a nice punch. They are also great for the road and are very durable. The only complaint i have with these are they have a lot of high's and not enough low's and mid's in them because of the plastic sides. But with a little eq work, you can have these speakers sounding great!

Very light compared to plywood or MDF enclosures. The sound is very clean, and the SPL are very good for the money. I also have JBL Eons, and while the SPL rating are better on the JBL's, they are quite a bit more expensive. I have used the Sonic and Kustom speakers as well. Cheaper usually means heavier constrction with less expensive materials, and lower SPL for the dollar. The Peaveys have a great history with many famous bands, and will continue to do so.

Good Speakers, Bad Users

Other things that kill speakers, feedback, under-powering, and trying to run high volume low freq.

1. feedback sends AC voltage to the speakers. Each time this happens it heats up the

voice coil and eventually burns it out.

2. Too low of freq. at a high volume. Each driver is designed for a specific usage. Once again, heat

will burn it out. Use Subs for low freq.

3. Not enough wattage from your amp. Yes I said not enough. Users often make the mistake of

buying high wattage rated speakers, but don't have the proper amp to run them. Amps are rated

at so many watts. If a lower wattage      amp is turned up too far for more volume, and it clips

(heard as distortion) it begins sending AC power directly to the voice coils and soon burns

them      out. To allow for higher head room and reduce the chance of clipping, a good rule is to

use an amp that is 1 1/2 times to 2 times the rated wattage of the speaker. This allows

enough head room to run the speakers. Then use good judgment with volume.

4. Too low of ohms will burn out your amps. My rule, keep      above 4ohms. Or 1 amp per

2 speakers rated at 8 ohms each connected in parallel = 4 ohms. Good luck.

I often times read bad reviews about speakers. Before writing bad reviews, make sure you really know what you are talking about... If you used the speakers for what they are designed for they will work great. I have 4, play them hard and have never had a problem. If you are trying to use them as DJ speakers without Subs, and the proper wattage amps, yup, you guessed it, damage and bad sound.

indestructible. No carpet!!!
