Other things that kill speakers, feedback, under-powering, and trying to run high volume low freq.
1. feedback sends AC voltage to the speakers. Each time this happens it heats up the
voice coil and eventually burns it out.
2. Too low of freq. at a high volume. Each driver is designed for a specific usage. Once again, heat
will burn it out. Use Subs for low freq.
3. Not enough wattage from your amp. Yes I said not enough. Users often make the mistake of
buying high wattage rated speakers, but don't have the proper amp to run them. Amps are rated
at so many watts. If a lower wattage amp is turned up too far for more volume, and it clips
(heard as distortion) it begins sending AC power directly to the voice coils and soon burns
them out. To allow for higher head room and reduce the chance of clipping, a good rule is to
use an amp that is 1 1/2 times to 2 times the rated wattage of the speaker. This allows
enough head room to run the speakers. Then use good judgment with volume.
4. Too low of ohms will burn out your amps. My rule, keep above 4ohms. Or 1 amp per
2 speakers rated at 8 ohms each connected in parallel = 4 ohms. Good luck.
I often times read bad reviews about speakers. Before writing bad reviews, make sure you really know what you are talking about... If you used the speakers for what they are designed for they will work great. I have 4, play them hard and have never had a problem. If you are trying to use them as DJ speakers without Subs, and the proper wattage amps, yup, you guessed it, damage and bad sound.
indestructible. No carpet!!!

Perhaps we only got a couple of bad ones. They were light and nice to set up and tear down, but they didn't deliver the live sound we were looking for. When they started going downhill, everything would begin distorting and buzzing before it finally blew out.
They look pretty ugly unless you want the industrial look for your room or don't care about what your speakers look like. Love how lightweight they are, though.
They worked okay for about six months with setting up and tearing them down 3 times a week. After that, they started crapping out. Difficult to get clean sounds, bad bass punch, and recently one blew out.

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

I used these speakers for the first time this last weekend and got many comments on the great sound they produce. As a solo guitarist, I play in many different settings and most of the time the settings are very intimate and my Acoustic Image Coda amp is all that I need. But at times, I play larger venues or outdoors and need more projection. These PR15s are just exactly what I needed. They connect easily to my amp with a speak-on to 1/4" cable and really deliver the quality of sound that I have been seeking with a system that is light weight and easy to move and set up. Having a master's degree in classical guitar, I prefer a clear, well-rounded, projected tone and with my Acoustic Image amp and the PR15's, I get just that. As to the experience of buying through Musician's Friend, all I can say is they were excellent in the sale and extremely prompt in getting my PR15s delivered. Great service, great price and great speaker.

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

Am a 65 year old respected mobile dj from near Flint Michigan. Been using the Peavy PR l2's and l5's for 3 years now. Just used a set of 15's and 12's daisy chained 90 feet apart with a 1500 watt QSC amp at Back to the Bricks, one of the nation's top outdoor car shows. Crystal clear audio 200 yards from the speakers near the historic Durant hotel on Saginaw in downtown Flint. Although both the 12's and 15's will pop out the 1/4 inch speaker cables unless taped or secured to the cabinet at high volumes they are lightweight and delivery ultra faithful sound and take a lot of abuse. Best speaker i've used in my 35 years as a mobile and 1500 events. Yes, at teen or club events you'll need a sub for best sound but i never use a sub and get no complaints.
The plastic non carpeted cabinets are great for rainy outdoor occassions. Wish this design came in an 18 inch cabinet. Dan "The Godfather" McPhail Burton MI

      Still Thumpin' & Pumpin'!

      By TJ 'Ricky Rox' Votel

      from Twin Cities, Minnesota

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

there are only two improvements I'd make on these speakers. I think they need a more attractive, modern cabinet and I wish they could handle more wattage.
I wrote a review on these Peavey neo cabs about 2 or 3 years ago. Since then I'm still using the same speakers (I had 10 pairs at that time) and I've added 4 more since then. I'm putting on between 8 and 12 shows every week and I take a great amount of pride in how my music sounds and it always sounds fabulous. I attribute a good deal of the credit to Peavey. I go by the philosophy that your sound will only be as good as the weakest component in the system and the operator's knowledge and ability. THESE SPEAKERS ARE FABULOUS! I've read a few reviews that attribute crappy sound to the speakers. I can tell you unequivicably that their problem is not with these speakers. I also had some problems with speakers 'kicking' the 1/4" cables out but discovered that it was an amp/mixing issue and since I corrected the problem it hasn't happened at all since then). Do yourself a favor, get these speakers. Also get high quality mics such as EV 767s, a high quality amp (check out the QSC G7), a quality mixing board (I like Yamaha) and definitely get a Peavey Kosmos. You can have legendary sound too. And no, I do not have any affiliation whatsoever with Peavey other than that of a pleased consumer.
Durable, rugged, tough-as-nails. Great sound & range. Lightweight and easy to handle. What more do you want?
      There's nothing close

      Great Speakers For Small Venues

      By Derek Compton

      from Republic MO

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

I bought these speakers a year ago for my band (Cole Porter Band). We use these speakers for smaller venues that we play at because they are extreamly light weight and pack a nice punch. They are also great for the road and are very durable. The only complaint i have with these are they have a lot of high's and not enough low's and mid's in them because of the plastic sides. But with a little eq work, you can have these speakers sounding great!

Best Value for weight & Size

      By Frank Casto

      from Marietta, OH

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

Very light compared to plywood or MDF enclosures. The sound is very clean, and the SPL are very good for the money. I also have JBL Eons, and while the SPL rating are better on the JBL's, they are quite a bit more expensive. I have used the Sonic and Kustom speakers as well. Cheaper usually means heavier constrction with less expensive materials, and lower SPL for the dollar. The Peaveys have a great history with many famous bands, and will continue to do so.

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

I love my PR15s. I have DJed with them, and we've used them quite heavily in our church services. They have a great full-range sound. I pair them with (currently) a Peavey 2x15" subwoofer cabinet and the sound is beautiful.I've never blown a fuse in them...if I had to replace the diaphragm, I'd probably do a step up and put the RX22 in.

Great, if you use them right!

      By DJ Iceman

      from Ashland, KY

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

I see a lot of people complain about the PR series, mainly because they're Peavey-phobes, but some sound like they have no idea what the hell they're doing. I ran these at an under-21 club for 6 hours straight at max volume (literally, max, before clipping) to where you could walk in the room and your ears would hurt from how loud they were. I had a set of the 12's before, they were great, and now I have the 15's. For the price I got them for (got them from a guy with an amp for $300), I am amazed. I'm going to sell my current amp, buy 2 more of these, and stick them on top of my subs, two dual 15" DTHs and two SW118's. Use these speakers right, and they will get you through anything. If you're worried about blowing components, buy a $100 comp/limiter and add it in your system. That's what I do.
