I have been using this powered mixer for 4yrs. doing around 20-30 gigs a year without a bit of problem. Most of the gigs we do are medium clubs, bar and grills and, maybe an occasional outdoor date. 4pc. Classic Rock/Country band with 4 vocals 1 dedicated kick drum and, bass channel. This unit will take everything that we throw at it, it is powerful, easy to use and, to transport and, setup.
We used to have a large, heavy, bulky rack that was a pain to setup and, tweak B4 every performance but, it has went bye bye for ever.
We always had problems getting our vocals on top of the mix but, with this unit it is a breeze. Way more than enough power with headroom to spare this yeilds a very clean powerful sound that we have been complimented on by everyone that hears us. Also very nice and usable effects built in. We hardly have to use any EQ and, generally once it was originally set that's the way we have used it for all these years.
This allows us to perform and, not have to diddle with a bunch of knobs etc. etc. and, concentrate on our performance and, have fun, isn't that what's it's all about?
1 amp for mains and 1 amp for monitors couldn't be any simpler.
We have 2 older SP2's for the mains or 2 PR12's for smaller gigs and we are using 2 powered subs PV118D's to complete the system. This unit has all the inputs and, outputs that you'll need to complete any system. Works Great! Love it!

Good for a solo artist or small group look for a PA only (no monitors).
This unit has decent power (at 4 ohms) and is a good low cost PA system. I have mine running a pair of PR15 8ohm speakers... probably a bit more speaker than this unit was designed to handle. I like the portability though the knobs seem vulnurable in transit. I am however very disappointed in the monitor capabilities of this amp. The monitor bus comes from the pre-eq on each channel which means if you have more than a couple channels plugged in your monitor mix will sound lousy. You can reroute the main mix into the monitor power amp but unfortunately the power amp input does not go through the master eq or the volume control so that doesn't work either. If you don't plan to use floor monitors then this is a nice unit - if you want monitors - keep shopping...
Quality seems fine... rugged case, easy to carry.
Value isn't bad considering what you pay for a power amp of the same rating, the poor design of the audio busses really does deteract from the overall value however.

Comments about Peavey XR 8600D Powered Mixer:

I bought this 3 years ago to replace a 1980's version that had seen many many nights in clubs, etc. It blew up on the first gig. Peavey replaced it. About three years later the output blew up on the monitor outputs. I sent it to Peavey and it came back fixed free of charge. However on the 2nd gig it blew out both sets of outputs. I have always loved Peavey and I will continue to support their products but this thing is not dependable. Sorry folks but this is junk.

Comments about Peavey XR 8600D Powered Mixer:

One of the reviews said they had problems with the sound from the monitors when they had several channels plugged in. Our band uses 7 channels, four vocals and three instruments. The monitors sound clean and clear and everything can be heard. Maybe their unit is not working well or the monitor speakers are out of phase of something like that?

Comments about Peavey XR 8600D Powered Mixer:

Very nice powered mixer. Super easy to use and sounds great. I am driving two Peavey PR10 mains and two Kustom 10" monitors. It could easily work some add on passives and has outputs for powered speakers too. The only thing I would change or ask Peavey to change is make the Feedback Locating System more sensitive. On my unit, the feedback has to get rather loud before the locating system identifies the frequency band. I would like to see it tell me as soon as the feedback thinks about starting.

Comments about Peavey XR 8600D Powered Mixer:

I recently purchased this mixer/amp to replace my old Peavey XR600C mixer/amp. This product seems to be more sensitive to EQ adjustments than my old equipment, but it is much lighter and easier to haul around to gigs. I have not really experimented with the effects yet, but I have found that, with the reverb effects, less is more.

This was a great deal, came with a great warranty and it was delivered quickly and packaged very well to boot.

Comments about Peavey XR 8600D Powered Mixer:

I like this system, it is portable, light weight, and has most of the features one needs. A headphone jack would be a plus. The Equalizer provides ample effects for most auditoriums. I have used this system for festival setup, and had more compliments that with a larger 16 input system
I have set this unit three times a week for the last two years without any issues.
You can't go wrong with a peavey system.
