Comments about Phonic FIREFLY 302 PLUS Portable Firewire Interface:
Firefly plugs and plays with my Snow Leopard Mac. Audio is clear and distortion free. I record for hours on end with no problems. Just a guitar or keys with singing for some references usually. There's a special control panel software for some settings. The Mac audio midi settings aren't used. I contacted Phonic about this and got a fast and friendly answer. The Cubase software that comes with it is really good and has more tracks than the Firefly needs. I bought this on an online recommendation on youtube and I am happy I did.
Comments about Phonic FIREFLY 302 PLUS Portable Firewire Interface:
I used it with a MAC leopard and it would crash my computer on start up if it was plugged in. It also seemed weak on the signal it sent. I just had to send it back. It is fine for the price if it works with your computer.
Comments about Phonic FIREFLY 302 PLUS Portable Firewire Interface:
I actually have two of these units and so far I really like working with them (only got my first one a couple of months ago). I use them to record demos and the occasional take. Usually just one instrument at a time, though I do the occasional vocal / instrument recording. I use a direct box directly into the XLR for most instruments, depends on the circumstances. I use a slightly older macbook with Logic for my recordings and the setup was pretty simple with this setup. Recordings always come out sounding full and clear. I keep one of them in the car so I can use it when running about. Quality was still good when running the off the notebooks battery. I would have liked to be able to adjust the phones and speakers separately at home, but I guess space was a factor. I'd definitely recommended regardless.
Comments about Phonic FIREFLY 302 PLUS Portable Firewire Interface:
I bought the Firefly to replace my aging USB Powerwave with a firewire interface for my Mac. I returned the first one because there was little or no signal strength from my mike, Fender tele or my Takamine acoustic electric. After receiving my replacement unit I found the same problem. Instead of sending it back I decided to run it through my Eurorack mixer which boosted the power. This did the trick. As a result, I get superior recordings. My point is that it should be a stand alone unit. That is why I gave a so so rating. I wonder if the Phonic engineers tested the power in this product before they put it on the market.
