I took a gamble on this system, and it paid off. I highly recommend this unit for anyone looking for a good start up PA, or for a good practice system. the amp is bridgeable, so you could continuously add to it. Very pleased!
I will start by saying this is a budget system, so my opinion of this system is based soley on the fact that it is an inexpensive PA.

I was hesitant at first to purchase this unit because I have always used Mackie products in the past. My band was looking for a dependable budget line practice PA, so we decided on this one. I was absolutely blown away by its performance, it is built very well and operation is simple. It has just about the same options as an expensive Mackie 808. The speakers are perfect for a small room practice situation, but more speakers could be added to play small to medium venues with no problem. The speaker cables this unit comes with are chep..they do the job, but I would recommend investing in some heavy duty cables.

Now for the mic....WOW! First of all, I use mostly Shure mic systems. I have a lot of low end to my vocals, and sometimes it can be hard to find a good mic to clearly pick that up. Usually when I get a cheap mic with equipment packages I toss them to the side. I started off with my SM58, and just for the hell of it decided to plug the Phonic mic in..HOLY MICROPHONE! This mic has almost a studio quality to it, it blows the SM58 out of the water! I have been performing for about 20 years people, and I am not kidding when I say this mic is amazing! I have contacted Musicians Friend in an efford to purchase atleast 10 more of these mics. They do not sell them seperately, but they are working on it for me.

When this PA arrived I noticed a clanging sound when I lifted the speaker out of its packaging. I had to take the speaker apart and noticed the tweeter was not attatched to the horn. I simply screwed it on, and have had no other issues.

I didn't want to spend a lot, so I bought this. It will work for a duo. Just don't be shocked by the muddy sound when you get it. This is the first time I've worked with low end equipment. I was a little surprised that the cables are like something for toys. The mic cable doesn't work. On the positive side, I've used the phonic mic and it isn't that bad.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 740 Plus / S712 PA Package:

After being away from performing for quite some time and looking for a starting point for PA sound for Small Venues, I looked purchased the Phonic based solely on the price. This PA was purchased for an Acoustic Dou playing Classic Rock Tunes. Its is very simple to use and provide good sound for this application ( Two Acoustic Guitars, Two vocals). We have used the PA multiple times in Small Venues and it is more than adequate at low to Mid volume levels. The effects are decent and the mixer provides everything you'll need to get a balanced Mix. I will caution that the Cables included are of very poor quality so plan on buying a decent set of higher gauge cables than what are included. When I first got the system I was having difficult with feedback at mid & high volume levels. Once I changed the cables to 14 gauge, problem solved. The other drawback is there are no XLR outputs for the monitors and there is only one Monitor out. I was able to solve for this with the proper cables and have to "daisy chain" two monitors from the single output. Not ideal, but functional. Overall for the price you can't beat this PA. Simple operation, decent sound, all of the necessary features. Make a few changes as mentioned and your on your way.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 740 Plus / S712 PA Package:

Didn't know anything about PA system but needed one for our 150 people outdoor church event. Did some homework and picked out 3 systems that fits our budget and need. When I called the nice folks at MF, the sale rep was very helpful. He took the time to learn what we want to do and the venue's physical character (in a paddle tennis court) before recommended this Phonic Powerpod 740 Plus / S712 PA Package.
The system arrived as scheduled. But when we tested the system w/ the included mic we had no sound. Luckly it was due to the bad XLR cable that came w/ the system. Changed a cable and the wired mic works fine. We also connected a GTD Audio G-622H 200 Channel UHF Wireless microphone System to it and all 3 mic worked great. We had many speeches and music thoughout our 4-hour event and the system delivered clear & good sound without heating up.
I just called MF customer service regarding the bad XRL cable and they are sending me a replacement cable tomorrow, no ifs, ands, or buts. I'll recommand MF to anybody for their friendly & professional service and products.

I use this for singing, playing my acoustic/electric guitar, and my electronic drums through. It has a nice clean sound. My guitar sounds great playing straight in with no other effects needed. The built in effects are just ok, but considering the price you just can't beat this system.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 740 Plus / S712 PA Package:

I received this PA today. After the QUICK and EASY set up, to test it, I plugged a stereo into it and turned it on. I had read a couple of reviews that SLAMMED the sound, but I am here to tell you, if you don't get good, crisp, powerful sound out of this baby, you have done something wrong !!! Right out of the shoot, this PA displayed PLENTY ENOUGH POWER, for any of the small events i will use it for. It packed PLENTY OF PUNCH in the bass, with good deep smooth bass reflex. The highs were crisp and clean, and that was before i set EQ levels, which only made this package go from EXTREMELY PLEASING, to MORE THAN I EXPECTED !!! Right out of the box, i couldn't be more pleased with this purchase, and am certainly looking forward to using it to fill many "Family Functions", as well as "Small Venue Performances" in the future !!! If you are looking for a good PA System, at an Extreme Value, this is the one for you !!! I would and do highly recommend this PA !!! Like I said, if you get anything other than good, clean sound out of this PA, make sure you set it up properly, and used the PROPER CABLES, CONNECTORS, ETC to hook it up !!! ROCK ON & GOD BLESS !!!

Hands down best p a package for the money. Only thing it's really missing is xlr outs. You will also want two extra monitors to play out, i used this with two powered 18" subs and the 12's easily drown out. The 740 mixer gives you more power though for two more monitors.

I had written a review when I first got this system. I am starting to play bigger venues and I love the flexibility the head allows me. I think I am going to bridge the system take the 440 watts and use an external amp for the monitors. We mic the drums and gtrs so everything comes though together. Id get this system if your budget is tight but if you upgrade use it as a monitor set up and get more watts for the front.I am very pleased with how it has performed taking it from gig to gig.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 740 Plus / S712 PA Package:

I just purchased this PA system and used it live with a four piece rock/jazz band three days later. I am still scratching my head on how a PA system at such a low price can produce the quality of sound that it did. The effects and EQ's are really very good. The only negative comment I have is that there is something rattling in both speaker cabinets when you pick them up to move them, although there was no rattling or distortion of any kind while playing live. I didn't use the mic they give you with the package instead I used three Shure SM 58S's. Believe me as I have been playing professionally for over 40 years and this PA is unbelievable for the price. Great for the musician that plays small indoor venues or for band practice. The 12? speakers are also ideal for singers as they produce a good balance between bass and treble.

I've had this system for about 7 months now and I love it, it never fails on me and has enough power to fill up a Gym full of highschoolers with loud music. I would say you need a subwoofer because the 12" woofers don't produce alot of bass. The amp/mixer itself works perfect, i dont really enjoy the selection on effects it has but thats just me. I would recommend this package to anybody who needs a nice, affordable sound/PA system!

Very nice little starter PA system. I purchased the 15" version and the bass is adequate so I don't know about the 12" version. The power is marginal but for the price I paid it is very good. The mic is of decent quality which was a surprise. The power cables should be scrapped immediately and replaced - too short and too small size. My unit had a small dent in the back - but it didn't affect anything and you can't see it.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 740 Plus / S712 PA Package:

Used one time since purchase. Used for weekly jam sessions in an RV park for 4 months during the winter. Used with 3 mics and plan to add 2 more. One use only for 3-4 hrs. Got several comments on the good sound. Good value and performance compared to big name brand systems. Would recommend to other users for similar requirements.
