OVERVIEW

An affordable, compact PA system with powered mixer, 12" speakers, microphone, and cables.

The Powerpod 820/S712 PA Package contains a Powerpod 820 powered mixer and 2 S712 12" 2-way speakers.

Powerpod 820 Mixer
The Phonic Powerpod 820 is a 200W 12-input powered mixer with two paired stereo inputs and four mono Mic/Line channels each with individual phantom power. The ultra low noise preamps and 75 Hz (18 dB/oct.) low-cut filters ensure high fidelity sound and elimination of unwanted sounds like stage rumble, P-pops, wind noise, and low frequency recording studio room resonance. The audio mixer has a 3-band EQ on every channel and onboard DFX, our 32-bit digital effects processor, with 16 preset programs and parameter control give you maximum control over your mix. Two AUX sends per channel and two stereo AUX returns mean that you can combine the Phonic Powerpod 820 with a variety of Signal Processors and other PA equipment. Monitoring the mix is easy with the Phonic mixer's dual 10-segment LED level meters and high volume headphone output. The added feature of Mini Stereo I/O makes this mixing console perfect for anyone connecting MP3, MD, or computer audio or recording devices. The Powerpod 820 is ideal for project studios, clubs, and other applications that demand power in a limited space. It also works great as a keyboard mixer, sub-mixer or monitor desk. Comes with microphone, mic cable, and speaker cables.

2 Phonic S712 Speakers
The Phonic S712 is a 2-way stage speaker that features carpeted casings to provide extra protection against rough handling. These Phonic speakers are packed with power handling abilities of up to 300W on Peak, 150W on Program. The S712 speakers feature a 12" heavy duty woofer and piezo tweeter.

I've owned this system for a few years and it's worked perfectly every time. I play mostly small acoustic gigs, but I have it set up in my house for a practice area.

Set up is real easy (I recommend investing in heavy duty 1/4" cables, the ones they come with are not that great).

I play an Ibanez electric acoustic and plug an XLR directly from the guitar into the mixer. I have played my electric though the PA, using a Line 6 PowerPod HD 300 effects pedal, but I had a hard time adjusting the sound quailty with all the pre-amps (maybe I just need the practice but I recommend just plugging your electric into an Amp and then mic'ing the amp). I've also run my Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator into this system and it works fine, but their was a hiss which I believe was more the fault of the AC-3, rather than the phonic 820.

The only drawback I have is that if you're trying to play in a large venue or with other instruments and a band, you may need an amplifier to give you more volume, but this works perfectly in coffee house settings. Also, they board only has a limited number of inputs for Mics and instruments, so again, it works great for small shows.

Also, it's worth investing in the tripod stands. Awhile back, musiciansfriend offered those as the free gift that came with this PA system.

The OK. Using this as a small PA for a 15 x 15 rehearsal room. More than enough power to fill that room and the mic is surprisingly good, even a little brighter that my SM58s. Nice versatility with the inputs and the onboard effects are OK. Would be nice to have a more detailed user manual though. Now the Bad. Horn tweeter blew after 2 months of light use. No response from mfr. after numerous emails and tickets submitted. I know speakers blow sometimes, but since it had a 1 year warranty I thought I could use it. Wrong. Finally gave up and purchased an aftermarket horn tweeter and replaced it myself. So I voided the warranty, but they wont respond to me so who cares at this point and I need a functioning product. Save up and spend your money on a Peavey or Yamaha system instead.

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 / S712 PA Package:

I got this as a graduation gift about 3 years ago. Since then, I've used it for many things:

Small gigs with my punk/rock band (mics only, with both speakers and 3 floor wedges)

DJing (added a small subwoofer)

Church worship (acoustic guitar, electronic drums, mics, floor wedges)

Through all this, this little system has never failed me. It is really solid sound if you know how to EQ everything, and it has decent power.

To this day, we still use the two speakers at my church. We have a 32 channel Peavey board, a Behringer iNUKE power amp, 18" Peavey subs, a full band, and we've found no reason yet to replace these little Phonic speakers. They project the highs and mids great, and have enough power to pump out the low end nicely.

The only thing I wish is that the board would have just a little more power to keep things from peaking. That would make a lot of difference.

Side note:
The "tweeter" speaker came un-hooked, as if someone somehow forgot to put it in! No problem, though. Just take off the side handle and screw the tweeter in to the pre-made threads of the speaker cab. Super easy fix!

All in all, this is a great system. I'd recommend it to anyone that needs a small system.

I purchased this set about two years ago, and have used them for a few birthday parties, a wedding and a couple of work events. This is certainly powerful enough for a small gathering but will not be good for a slamming dance party. The variety of inputs is great. It also has lots of effects but I never use them. Also would work well for a smallish band to use as their PA, as on the output side you can do monitors AND house output.

I was somewhat disappointed with how much buzz you can hear in these speakers after I saw only good reviews about their sound quality before purchasing them. They're affordable but I'm wishing I'd have just paid more for a better quality product even though I'm only using them in conjunction with my home theater system.
