Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 Mixer:
It would be a great little mixer..IF YOU CAN GET IT TO POWER UP!!! Sent back three times. First one lasted less than a week, then would power up and shut down in 2 sec. Sent back for warranty, and that one lasted about six weeks, then the same problem. Sent it back for warranty, and the third would not power up out of the box. Musician's Friend was great thru all of this, but the product is a piece of JUNK!!!

Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 Mixer:
I must have bought my bundle when they had better quality control, I have ran several dj-ing events with mine and have had no problems what so ever. One was even an outdoor sales event and it ran for 7 hours straight, I kept a little fan on it and my computer the whole time as extra cooling and had no problems. I even ran it hard at a wedding with my sub and had it clipping the red lights most of the night and still had no problems.
Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 Mixer:
See the above review, this is a poor product; don't buy it.
If this product was reliable it would be the ideal solution for all new bands, unfotunately it isn't. It has all the features a band would want, the controls aren't any more confusing than any other mixer.
I've had two of these mixers and they both died under the same circumstances. The first time I turned it on, the lights flashed and it abruptly stopped working. I changed the fuse but this did not solve the problem.. I returned it and got a second one, this lasted a week and one gig and then died under the same circumstances. Reading through the other reviews that have been made since i purchased this, it appears as if I am not the only one with this problem. Avoid this at all cost to save yourself a headache.
Don't bother, get a decent mixer and dedicated power amplifier.
Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 Mixer:
After three frustrating rounds of replacement components, I think this little PA will work well for me.
Powerpod 820 mixer - has a great feature set for the price. Just what I had in mind for a home studio starter system. I may not use all of the effects and connections, but it is nice to have lots of options. This is my first PA, so I really can't make a great comparison of the sound quality, but there is good adjustability with 3 band EQ on each channel. Design is reasonable, despite some odd labeling and build quality feels good. Phonic S710 speakers are pretty basic but sound good.
Here's the problem. I had two mixers die on me with similar symptoms - after playing at low, living-room volumes for a couple hours or less, the power switched off and wouldn't come back on. The LEDs would flash when you cycled the power, but it wouldn't start up. The third (!) unit seems fine so far, but still only a few hours on it. Hopefully it's past the infant mortality stage and will be OK.
After I finally got a mixer that worked, one of the speakers died. After a short while at low volumes, it started making crunchy noises, then became blissfully bass-free. The horn was fine, the driver was working but had nothing below ~300-400 Hz. The replacement sounds fine, but only time will tell.
Like the name of the review says, it's a nice system for a cheap price, if it works. I would give it full marks except for the quality problems.
Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 Mixer:
I bought this mixer on a tight budget, and it was a huge mistake.
I strongly advise that you do not buy this mixer. If you can, spend some extra money for a well known brand with good ratings.
I have had a terrible experience with this mixer.
But When it's working, it does a great job for the price. It provides a decent amount of power and the features and layout are nice.
I have had a terrible experience with this mixer.
Most of the time it DOES NOT WORK. After a couple months, the unit began to have issues powering up. Finally, it completely died. Phonic told me to contact U.S. Music Corp., the manufacturer, for repair. I did, and it took about three weeks for them to respond and tell me to send it in for repair. I did so, and it took them 10 WEEKS to repair the unit. I did not have the mixer for the entire duration of my summer. Only once I started emailing complaints did they return it to me (and when I recieved it, the wrong name was on the package, so UPS almost did not even deliver it).
After I recieved it, the mixer worked fo rabout three weeks. Now I am having the same problem again. Power is inconsistent, so audio clicks in and out. Sometimes it does not even power up.
This product is completely unreliable, and it is impossible to work with the manufacturer. I would never, ever bring this to a gig.
A product like this has no value if it will not work most of the time.
If it worked, it would be a good value for the money, but it simply does not.
Comments about Phonic Powerpod 820 Mixer:
Great little package for solo or duo musicians. Especially handy is the "desk" style versus a "box" or "rack" style so you don't have to keep bending down to see and adjust controls.
Although there are no sliders on individual channel levels, there are a bunch of features packed into a compact little package. The aux send and returns are versatile for monitors or effects. Also I love the onboard digital effects. Several different options and all sound great.
I have been using my Powerpod 820 for 2+ years with two Phonic S712 speakers and always get great sound. I play mostly smaller venues (pubs and hotel bars).
Phonic is a surprisingly high quality brand for the price you pay. If you are a solo musician like me and don't have a lot of $$$ to throw around, forget the big name brands. Phonic gets the same job done and takes less dough out of your tip jar.
