      PreSonus

      8" High-definition active studio monitor.

When mixing music you want a pair of studio monitors that will accurately reveal the truth about what you're listening to, and the Eris series from PreSonus are designed to do just that. With its 8" Kevlar low-frequency transducer, the Eris E8 provides an extended low-end all the way down to 35Hz, and performs with a bit more muscle than the smaller E5. Eris speakers are real studio monitors, delivering a very accurate response with a tight bass and very clear upper end. That’s what you need in a home studio. Thanks to well-designed Kevlar® low frequency transducers, low-mass silk-dome tweeters, responsive Class AB amplification, and professional acoustic-adjustment controls, Eris delivers the goods.

Both Eris models provide balanced XLR, balanced ¼” TRS, and unbalanced RCA line-level inputs. When both balanced connections are in use, the TRS input will supersede the XLR input. The RCA input is summed into the signal path. With this selection, you’ll have no problem hooking your Eris speakers up with virtually any line-level source. (If your signal source has unbalanced, ¼” TS outputs, simply use a ¼”-to-RCA adapter or adapter cable.)

      You’re in control!
Today’s music producers deal with a wide variety of musical genres and often work in more than one location. It’s easy to take your Eris speakers with you when you want to work in a different space. It’s almost as easy to customize their sound for your room and type of music.

The most basic control is the Input Gain, which determines the signal level before it reaches the power amp. This is part of gain-staging your overall system—that is, setting the levels for every part of the recording chain in order to get the optimal level of clean audio all the way through. Once you’ve gain-staged your system, you can leave this control alone.

The Eris E5/E8 provides three EQ controls in its Acoustic Tuning section: High, Mid, and Low Cutoff. These controls enable you to fine-tune the monitors and even to broadly approximate the sounds of different types of speakers so you can hear what your mix might sound like, for instance, on a car stereo or portable radio. The Low control also is useful when using the E5 or E8 with a subwoofer.

      Safety Matters
Any loudspeaker is subject to an assortment of environmental and performance problems, and Eris monitors offer protection from most common of these. RF shielding protects against radio frequencies that could be induced into the signal and become audible. (If you’ve ever heard a radio broadcast unexpectedly coming out of a guitar amp, that’s the result of RF interference.)

Eris monitors also provide over-temperature protection to avoid heat-related issues, current-output limiting (to prevent damage should there be a short circuit on the speaker terminals), and subsonic protection to filter out extremely low-frequency vibrations that could interfere with the woofer’s performance.
Finally, Eris’ power amplifiers have a “soft startup” so that you don’t get damaging pops in the speakers when you power them up.

Comments about PreSonus Eris E8 High-Definition 2-way 8" Nearfield Studio Monitor:

I read every review I could find on these monitors and they were all positive. One in particular caught my attention. It was written by a guy who owned and loved a pair of Genelecs. He compared them side by side with his beloved Genelecs and was blown away at how well they performed.
So, I bought a pair of Eris E8's. I am absolutely stunned at how enjoyable they've been to work with. To begin, I can work for hours and not suffer any ear fatique. The quality of my mixes has improved so much that I've actually had to go back and remix several songs I had done prior to working with the E8's.
The E8's have had a major impact on my composing as well. I actually compose while I record, auditioning synths and guitars. They've given me the ability to really hear how different voicings work together.

          Bottom line. I love them.

I would also highly recommend, the very inexpensive Izotope Ozone 5 Mastering software. Aside from their exceptional Audio Processing tools, you can capture and store EQ curves of your favorite mixes. This allows you to compare your mixes. This same tool is also very helpful in identifying problem frequencies on individual tracks. Ozone 5 also has a very, very nice reverb module that can put your entire mix in the same sonic space.

          I hope this helps!

These units look and sound great. I am quite happy with them. And the sound shaping controls let you tailor the sound to your room with ease. Also, no pop or click when you power them up - soft power up feature is wonderful.

I am a professional with a studio, I bought these to add to existing and with 6 hours time 1 failed and began blowing fuses. Worse is dealing with Presonus. They have worst customer service, and web site that exists. Presonus was next to impossible to deal with for warranty issue and for that reason I would not buy any presonus gear.... Ever.

The speakers are nice really overpowered and I feel are amazing for simple gigs like guitars vocals snare everything except ...no bass heavy or punchy bass or 808 distortion is present with lower information such as bass baffle can go lose and may cause some artifacts ... The speakers is pleaseing to listen to closest competitors is krk rokit but I don't like krk because to harsh to listen to for long sessions but you won't have the 808 problem with krk you can turn there amp up and not dostort and port noise not as noticeable with wider port anywho anyone planning on buying these speakers there are nice sounding full speaker shy of lowend performance ..

Very pleased with the performance of these monitors, particularly at this price point. Response is clean and transparent with a tight bottom end. Especially appreciate the subwoofer cutoff options which I set at 80Hz. Comes in handy with my old Paradigm Servo15 sub for everything below that. I record a lot of pipe organ tracks that challenge even the best audio gear. For anyone with a modest budget, these monitors are an easy choice.
