I've been using the original FireStudio for a little while now, and I really liked it. My latest project features several vocalists as well as ambient sounds from around my home town. As a result, I've done a lot of traveling with the big FireStudio and it got a little cumbersome. I ordered the FireStudio Mobile because it looked like it would better fit my needs for this project. I had some waterfall sounds I wanted to record, and thanks to this unit I didn't have to hike 5 miles through the woods with my other FireStudio and the bus powered phantom power let me uses a condenser (which actually turned out pretty bad because I dropped my bag and broke my favorite condenser mic, I think my 58 might have held up a little better). Also, It makes it much easier to get with my vocalists. I get this, a mic, my laptop, and a firewire cable and we can lay down tracks in their kitchen. Its pretty awesome.I would recommend this item to anyone who wouldn't have a problem with the fact that it has eight inputs bet only two preamps, so they can't record a full band without some mic preamps.

This is a well constructed and great sounding unit. It has nice features and nice solid build. The caution is that right now as of March 2010 there are no release drivers for either Windows 7 or OSX Snow Leopard. So if you are using a new computer or have upgraded your software, check the PreSonus site for release drivers first. My experience is that the FireStudio Mobile is not functional on my MacBook Pro running OS X Snow Leopard

I hope I... learn how to run it!!!
If you buy this studio you better be ready to do some serious study to learn how to use it~!
Seems good do far but hard to operate.
The price is always too high.

I use a Digitech GSP1101 to run into the firestudio mobile and it works great for me.The included Studio One (Artist) software is an added bonus but you will want to upgrade to get VST/Rewire support. The mic preamps on this unit sound very good.......i would buy this product again if it was ever stolen.............You can't go wrong buying this product............

Bought this unit to replace my beloved Native Instruments Guitar Rig Session interface, which was damaged in a freak accident. I decided to go with the Presonus because of the glowing reviews, and I thought that going with firewire speed from USB would cut out all latency. After I plugged in my guitar, I was sorely disappointed in the sound quality. All of the presets I meticulously created on my recording software now sound like total crap when I play through this thing. I've wasted countless hours trying to tweak it to get back my sound without success. Specifically, my overdriven/distortion sounds are not as good as they were. The clean guitar sounds are ok, but that encompasses only a small part of my playing. I'm gonna return this box asap.

For the price. You cant beat this. However, there are no effects send/return so you have to submix through a mixer (i.e autotune). But thats the only reason i cant give it 5 stars. this is a must buy!

The MIDI on the back of this model refers to Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI). Mostly USB has replaced this, but this connection allows for earlier controllers to be connected to the device, a VERY important feature if you've bought products or plan to use older products.

whats with the MIDI-S/PDIF thing? I dont have much experience with MIDI(nobody in our band plays keys) so I've never seen it before. i really like the indicator lights, its nice to see where you are and this thing is built like a tank.If anyone knows whats up with that jack though please write about it on here. Thanks

If you want something that is small but has amazing sound, get this box. It has a better sound than Apogee Duet except you get six extra line inputs as well as two mic inputs. And it also is built like a tank. I use it with both a mac and pc and the drivers worked on both of my computers without a hitch. The meters are also sweet looking. Studio One is great but you probably want to upgrade to the Pro version.

As of April 15, I've just downloaded the new Snow Leopard driver from the Presonus site and it's working great on my Mac Book Pro. (don't use the driver on the disk because it's probably not the latest one). I have used an older Firebox and this is a HUGE step up. Not only is it nice to have eight analog inputs, but the build quality is better. The knobs are more solid and it's great to have more LED's for monitoring levels. My only complaint is that the firewire cable that comes with it is a Firewire 400 (6 pin to 6 pin) and my Macbook Pro only has a Firewire 800 input. So I had to get a cable that had Firewire800 to Firewire 400. But aside from that, this thing works like a champ.
