Comments about PreSonus Studio One Artist Version 1 to Professional 2.0 Upgrade:
I think they tried to do everything with this program and went too far. Maybe two editions would work = one professional and one novice. EVERY TIME I try to record I have to trouble shoot. Something I recorded yesterday, won't play today, without any changes in settings made.
You better be a recording tech and PC tech to use this! Very frustrating!
Comments about PreSonus Studio One Artist Version 1 to Professional 2.0 Upgrade:
As I stated above, I love all of the instruments. Lots to choose from. Plenty of patches.
The recording process itself is very intuitive. Fantastic filtering, reverb, gate effects, LFO stuff, fantastic frequency analyzer. There is too much to name.
The mixdown, and the way that levels can be controlled, and adding events and automation is very, very cool.
Nice that they included a few songs, so you can see the way other people got their sound.
Only thing I would change would be some kind of single point of instruction where you can learn about how others (pros maybe?) use the myriad of effects to get the best sounds possible. (I know that this is carefully guarded knowledge).
Studio One works beautifully. It is very easy to get up and running, and with a few instructional videos I was laying down tracks in no time. I'm particularly impressed with how much content there is. Lots of drums, cool synth sounds, plenty of loops, cool keyboard effects, and bass. On top of that, the biggest thing I totally love is all of the filtering, EQ, vocal effects, and guitar effects that are bundled in with it.
I'm going to take 1 point off only because there is sooo much to learn, and there is no single uniform repository of knowledge. There is a _lot_ of info out there. Some is organized by topic and a lot more is scattered around on musician's forums and whatnot. I have never been unable to find what I needed. But, it does take some commitment (time) to go hunt down the topics you are interested in. Particularly for more complicated things like setting up a mastering, and learning how to set up events for finalization. I'm sure there are very experienced engineers out there that this is totally intuitive for, but for someone new to DAWs and even a lot of their terminology, I often don't know what to even search _for_, so I have to stumble around a little to see how other people got from point A to point D in the recording process...
I still can't believe how good it sounds. The quality of the effects that are at your disposal is mind-boggling. I am astounded at what is available, and I'm also amazed at what I've been able to achieve already, having only owned this for a couple of months.
Special recognition here for the Melodyne pitch correction software. This upgrade unlocks it after the 30 day trial period. This is what sold me on the upgrade. It is worth every penny. I am a decent vocalist. Not great, not terrible. But with the Melodyne pitch correction, I can add just enough "special sauce" to the vocals to get them sounding amazing.
I love how you can set the key you're in, and let it adjust vocals to absolutely be in key. That may be too extreme for many people. But it's great if you have 1 take, and just want to bang in the vocals fast. Otherwise, straight chromatic adjustment works beautifully to fine-tune a decent vocal track. Also, dialing in a key and adding harmonies is pretty dang cool.
Of course if you want the T-Pain robot voice, and/or stutter voice effects, you can do that too. It is a very sophisticated piece of software.
I started with Studio One Artist that came bundled with the PreSonus AudioBox USB (whitch is another fine product). All I can say is I was hooked with the bundled version, and I had to get the upgrade. It was totally, and completely worth every penny. I can not recommend it any more highly.

Only reason that I don't give this a perfect score is that I did not receive my key when my product shipped via email as advertised. I had to go to presonus and get the key - it doesn't come with one. It was easy enough to get - was just expecting to be able to use the software right when it arrived.
There's virtually nothing that you can't do with this software. Automation is a breeze, particularly with the available fader port. Drop and drag plugins and loops. The mastering is very easy and there are plenty of instructional videos available both at Presonus and elsewhere.
Works as advertised.
Great value. Considering everything that comes with it, you could easily pay more for less elsewhere.
