Could do better than this

Comments about PreSonus TubePre & MXL990 Condenser Microphone:

I purchased this combo and suggest that you don't. My PreSonus TubePre gave disappointing performance for the money, and the microphone is not very good either. The knobs on the preamp crackled and cut in and out which makes adjusting the level difficult. When I replaced the tube on it, I found the stock tube was barely stuck into the socket. The replacement tube did make a big improvement! The MXL990 has a very nice case and shockmount, but it didn't work well for vocals.A better use of your money would be to purchase the ART Tube MP and a Tung Sol 12AX7 replacement tube(for less than half the price). If you need a decent inexpensive ($100 range) condenser microphone, get a B1 or an AT2020. Best Advice: Save enough money and get a much better combo that might include something like a Golden Age Project Pre-73, or a FMR Really Nice Preamp or a Grace M101, and a Rode NT2a microphone!!

Comments about PreSonus TubePre & MXL990 Condenser Microphone:

I got this preamp and mic for my upright bass at Berklee College of Music, using it in some Jazz settings. The preamp allows me to go right in to any amp I want, and I have to say the tone it gives my bass in unbelievable. The tube is so wonderful! The mic is great, I have a few that I use but this one is quite solid. I gave the features a 4 because a few things, the phantom power, im not sure if it is a slow on and off, or if it just cuts the power right away. The best is to have a steady on and off so you dont damage the mic with the sudden power burst. But all in all I would highly suggest this set up for really anything, even just a preamp to bring around with you just to put your guitar or bass through to give it that delicious warmth!

A steal of a package

Comments about PreSonus TubePre & MXL990 Condenser Microphone:

Honestly, the tubepre costs about 120 by itself and you throw in an extra 20 bucks and you've got yourself a condenser for everyday use! For the preamp, I didn't really quite know what to expect-I was originally going to use it for recording but all I've been doing is experimenting with the many ways you can use it. I've run it as a direct box for my acoustic guitar and it sounds wonderful-When I'm playing electric I use it to give my tone a little extra warmth and volume boost and it sounds so rotund :]I've also recently tried running a dynamic mic into it while plugging it into an amp and it was a ton o' fun modulating my voice and whatnot. Very versatile preamp and definitely worth all my money. I'm probably going to replace the tube with a Fender, but for the time being, I'm gonna keep using the stock one just to get all the use out of it.As for the MXL, it's a great mic for at-home studio use. All my vocals and instruments recorded on it sound pretty decent-and I'm quite critical whenever I hear myself on a recording. Anyhow, buy this-you won't find a better deal!

Comments about PreSonus TubePre & MXL990 Condenser Microphone:

First, I have used this particular mic to record acoustic instruments and it does very well for the money. Second, I have used this tube preamp on stage in the instrument mode. I run my fiddle through the PA and it gives a nice warm tone. The fiddle has a very harsh pickup on it and this preamp calms it right down.

Comments about PreSonus TubePre & MXL990 Condenser Microphone:

I purchased this package over a month ago. I needed a shock mount and a second MXL 990. I have been wanting a TUBEpre for awhile and am now able to afford it with this package. WOW! The preamp works so well that I now will have to go back and redo some of my parts on current project I am working on. I recommemd this package. It works well for me. You won't be dissappointed at all.

I use this preamp to connect my bass to my church's PA. The gain and drive are good. The VU meter is twitchy though. Overall a great buy!

Comments about PreSonus TubePre & MXL990 Condenser Microphone:

I've needed a TubePre and a shock mount for my MXL 990 for a while but couldn't afford them. Now I need a second MXL 990 and was suprised when this package came available. I am very pleased with each item. My TubePre works very well but I would have liked it to have an on/off switch. Now I will have to redo some of my vocals on the current project due to the quality I am getting from the TubePre. This is all good equipment for my purpose.
