Updated to deliver extra expressiveness.
The focus is on freeing you up to make music, not bogging you down with arcane software knowledge. System includes a realtime sequencer, synthesizers, samplers, drum machine, ReCycle-based loop player, mixer, effects, pattern sequencer, and more. If you (and your computer) are up for it, Reason can do it.
With this version, Propellerhead brings you 4 more sound processing tools and 2 science projects to make your music weirder, wilder, better, and more beautiful. If you enjoy luxurious reverberation, flexible vocoding, creative distortion, instant fatness, and advanced signal routing, this is your kind of update. It includes the RV7000 reverb, the BV512 digital vocoder, the Scream 4 Sound Destruction Unit, the UN-16 Unison, the Spider Audio Merger & Splitter, and the Spider CV Merger & Splitter.
The RV7000 is a stereo effect unit dedicated to embedding your sounds in rich, transparent-sounding reverb. And despite its pro studio sound and million-dollar features, it's very easy to use. The basic controls on the main panel provide instant access and control, while the rest--8 knobs for algorithms and parameters--can be accessed from a fold-out remote at the touch of a button.
The BV-512 is the simple-to-use digital vocoder with superior sound quality and advanced abilities you need in your studio. Besides being a 4 to 512-band vocoder capable of modulating sound in both old-school analog style and digital FFT fashion, this unit also doubles as a fully automated equalizer with a twist. The BV-512 can be used for everything from classic robot vocals to weird harmonic effects.
Scream 4 is like having all your favorite distortion and overdrive stompboxes transformed into one shiny, rackmounted Reason unit. Add a touch of speaker modeling and a rough-sounding EQ section and you have the ultimate sound destruction unit. Use it for digital bit crushing or regular crushing, or just for adding a little analog warmth and body to your sounds. Scream 4 features 10 different signal damage and distortion effects, each with its own evil character: Overdrive, Distortion, Fuzz, Tube, Tape, Feedback, Modulate, Warp, Digital, and Scream.
UN-16 Unison is a software reincarnation of that mysterious Unison button on early '80s synths. It fattens up incoming sound by emulating the effect of 4, 8, or 16 detuned versions of the incoming sound playing the same note in ultra-stereo. The result is rich and wide and slightly similar to a chorus effect, only fatter.
Spider Audio may not be much to look at, but for the seasoned producer, it might be what you've been searching for. The Spider Audio utility has 2 purposes in life: to merge and to split audio, therefore bringing more of the hardware studio's patching capabilities into the software realm.
Effective May 14, 2004, the ElectroMechanical Refill loops collection is included in every Reason package. Registered Reason 2.5 users can download the ElectroMechanical Refill collection for free from the Propellerhead Software website.
The bonus ElectroMechanical ReFill is a collection of previously unreleased multi-sampled keyboard instruments: Rhodes mkI & mkII, Wurlitzer ep100 & ep200, Hammond Model A organ, Hohner Clavinet D6 and Hohner Pianet. Each instrument is represented in 5 to 10 patches. The ElectroMechanical ReFill will come with documentation and demo songs on the CD.

Reason and a midi keyboard is all you need. It's like having 10 Synths in one box.
The hardware-like interface and full ReWire integration makes Reason a must-own for any musician who wants complete control, including signal routing, effect processing, and virtually unlimited sequencing ability in a cross-platform package.I compose, arrange, and apply effects all within Reason, and export to CD-Ready audio files. You can also export in 24bit/96khz, just in case you wish to integrate your work into a professional studio environment.I've had top audio engineers ask me what studio I used to produce my albums, and I love it when their jaw hits the floor after I tell them "I did it all in software, in a program called Reason, for less than $500"Hardware-quality sound for less than any piece of hardware.I took the time to calculate what it would take in hardware to simulate one of my songs... about $380,000... and I did it with a $400 software package.Works awesome with Ableton's LIVE package, as they both support ReWire.ReFills allow you to expand your library of sounds to complement ANY musical style. With the newest version, 2.5, you can achieve amazingly full, rich sound layering. Use it on a fast computer (1.5Ghz+) and you have ear candy on tap.A bargain at 10 times the price. Own this program.
The software is state of the art and once you learn it you can do whatever. Although the beat sounds are kinda crappy, mix it with prosounds and you got something big goin on! I don't need any instuments thanks to this software. If you learn Reason, you can produce your sound of choice. This software is well worth the price you pay for it.
I've used just about every software synth out there and this one is no doubt the best. It has plenty of sounds to start on, and plenty of ways to expand it. If you're just into doing electronic music...or have been at for a while even. Reason is for you.
Reason 2.5 if a great peice of software that can ever be placed upon a computer. Within the bounds of these rack models, are countless ways to creatively with limitless continuty of configurations of sounds, tones, synths, loops and effects to fit the song, sounds, pieces or whatever you desire your sound to be... Reason 2.5 is none like any other that is out there.
I've been using this program for over two years, and not only does it provide everything you need wether starting out or bigger, not only can you be part of one of the internets largest underground music producers community that share millions of files wether it be songs loops samples etc, but it keeps you pushing your self forward. This in my opinion is one of the most beautiful programs ever created.
This product is great for those who just want to hop on in to making music but its just as great for the pros out there too. There's so much you can do! So many types of music, synth, hip-hop, R&B, and orchestrle. I've not yet found a style of music that can't be done on this program!
There is nothing better to do hip hop, r&b, remixing , and house on!! I sold all of my equipment because of this program. It is the "crack and herion" of music software, because once you try it out, you're hooked on it!*(no pun intended)
All conventional synth bases covered; samplers, analog synth, drum machine. Effects are good quality. Lacks ability to record audio tracks limiting it as a recording solution. Overall it is highly usable.
this is a really good music program. i recommend it for all true music makers. it's a good price, knowing that it has over $1,000 worth of modules in it. so yea, good program.
I think that Reason is one of the best software programs to date. I especially love Malstrom, NN-XT, and Scream those modules are absolutely 100% top-of-the-line. Eventhough it could use a few things such as VST support and raw audio support, it is still one of the best music workstations I have ever seen.
Vocoders, samplers, drum machines, grain synths, pro fx, and much more...(and as many as your computer can handle)! you can't beat that! Just the vocoder and the NN-xt are worth more then the price of this software! The only cons to reason is:No VST supportNo raw audio recording No no midi out
Reason replaces a rack of hardware. It replaces 10's of $1000's of discrete synths and rack gear and is the ultimate composition tool for the electronic musician. If there's a downside, its that there's such depth to this program that it will take a while to learn to use it to any serious depth. I have experience with the gear Reason replaces, and it helps to be familiar with legacy synths and MIDI recording. But you're going to need to know this stuff regardless of whose software you use, and you can hardly go wrong buying Reason. Its very cool.-Joe
This is a great softsynth that's easy to use compadible with lots of other softwate, has a huge variaty of sounds and simluates both feel and sound of analog equipment very well. Another area whre reason really excels is in the drum machine. It's easy to use and blows away any other softsynth's drum machine and patches. The hardcore kits are great for industrial the heavy kits are great for simulating real drums and the elctronic, techno, and abstract kits are just amazing. My only complaint is that none of the synths have an arpegiator, but a similar sound can be produced by messing with the LFOs.
A great tool for loops especially. Has many features of real rack synths and effects. Increases knowledge of Wiring Audio, Sequencing, and production. All slapped together with no hardware required. This program by far is the best HArdware emulation I have seen to date. And a prime example of automation. It has helped me with writer's block time and time again, several songs i have made, started with Reason 2.5. And great for almost all styles of music, especially, Rap, Hiphop, Pop, electronic, techno, industrial, and soundtracks.
This is a great program if all you want to do is record/compose electronic, MIDI based music. It's not clear from their promotional materials, but you CANNOT control external MIDI directly from this program, nor can you record AUDIO along with the MIDI. There is NO MIDI OUT. I presumed these functions would be included; shame on me for not researching ahead of time. Don't make the same mistake.
This sampler I think is one of the best. It gives you a good redrum which I like the most and also the NNXT sampler.
This software is awesome, and you don't really need a fast computer to use it. Great piece of equipment for beginners and people without a lot of cash....
The best thing about Reason is that it's such an expandable program. What ever your limitations seem to be, you can use other software or implement other options for the mix you want. Don't get me wrong, if you NEED to really expand (from this program) you are into some heavy stuff. It blows me away to know the price for such a program. It's one of the best programs for beat making out there. Don't sleep on it!!
This is one of the best PC software systems that I have owned of all time. Whatever you need to make, you can do it with this - don't waste your money buying all that equipment when you can get this and have everything you need.
