Comments about QSC KW122 Powered Speaker 12" 2-way 1000w:
There are three letters to live by as a DJ.
Q-----S-----C
If you are a DJ or have a band, the QSC KW 122 speakers are an upgrade to a more professional sound. To put the Mackie SRM 450v2 and QSC KW 122's side by side would be like comparing apples and oranges.
The sound quality from a wood cabinet speaker
The birch wood cabinets on these speakers provide an incredible sound.
These are pricy speakers, but with a 6 year warranty from QSC, how can you go wrong?
Comments about QSC KW122 Powered Speaker 12" 2-way 1000w:
Absolutely happy with this investment for all the reasons above.
Full birch plywood construction, active cooling (themostatically controlled fan for power section), limiter, top/full-range/DEEP, and flat/vocal EQ switches, flexible connection options. One thing you see in QSC's active speakers, as well as most of those from other manufacturers, is the absurd practice of using (in this case) a 2x500W power section. There must be manufacturing/budget reasons for doing this, but the fact is the tweeter can't possibly use more than 50W, so that second 500W -- which probably impresses some potential buyers -- is largely wasted since the signal must be severely attenuated to prevent destroying the tweeter. But it lets the marketing folks and the resellers boast that it has a "1,000-watt power section!" Whatever.
The sound is extremely clear, the dispersion is good, and the cab is plenty loud for small rooms, and for big rooms with a sub. Flawless, rock-solid construction and performance. No rattles, no flaws in the spray-on finish, grille is perfectly shaped and attached. As I've read in other reviews, the switches on the back don't have the same solid feel and sure detents that one might expect, but I have no reason to think they're in any danger of failure. I'm impressed by the DEEP circuit; when you engage it, it doesn't just get loud suddenly, but seems to ramp up the sustain and harmonics of low notes to give a satisfying, full sound. I haven't run these without a sub (yet), but it seems that, in a small room, you could without missing much.
I was happy to pay extra for this MIA product for a number of reasons. You pay a premium for its wood construction and country of origin, but because of its rock-solid construction, circuit and driver protection features and QSC's industry-best warranty, you know it's a unit that will provide years, if not decades, of service. I wouldn't dream of using these for stage monitors -- too expensive -- but I'm kicking around the idea of investing in at least one K12 that could be used as a wedge and a backup in case a KW121 ever fails at a gig (not that I think it will, but I like to have backups for *everything* because stuff happens, and if the power section fails, the cab is useless).
