OVERVIEW

Compact digital mixer with spectacular GUI.

The QSC TouchMix is designed for musicians and production professionals who need the power and capability of a large mixing console in a compact, affordable and easy to use format. TouchMix offers enough power and functionality to satisfy demanding professionals as well as a range of features and functions that help less experienced users achieve great results. A fantastic design, sure to be a popular piece of equipment.

Twelve dedicated XLR ins, four XLR and 1/4" hybrid inouts, and a pair of TRS 1/4" make for a very capable ionput scheme. It has stereo AUX outs as well in addition to its XLR main outs. Cue and moniter out, six XLR AUX outs. WiFi dongle, dual USB ports and a dedicated talkback channel. Four professional effects engines and even one channel of pitch correct, assignable to any input.

The TouchMix-16 provides the user a choice of Advanced Mode operation, which has total control over all parameters or Simple Mode, which provides only the most essential controls. For many practical engagements, Simple Mode is all you're likely to require. It offers everything you need and nothing you don't.

The QSC TouchMix Series represents a breakthrough in innovation and digital mixer design - the result of collaboration between QSC and industry icons Greg Mackie and Peter Watts. TouchMix resets the bar for performance and value and redefines the user experience for professionals and novices alike.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

I bought the QSC Touchmix mixer in December 2014 from MF and have used it at two gigs so far and at rehearsal. This mixer has so many features built in there are too many to talk about. Some of my favorites are having EQ, adjustable high/low cut filters, limiters, and compression on each channel, as well as, on the aux sends and main L/R outs. I also like the presets for different instruments and the ability to have four effects on each channel. The effects sound good to me and you can change them easily to suit your taste. The low cut filters are adjustable and really clean up the low end and allow the amps to work more efficiently while giving the low end good clean punch.

The compression really keeps everything at a steady level which is really beneficial with backing vocals, bass, and keyboards. Our keyboards seem have variations in volumes between settings. Using compression with a low/medium threshold on them seems to minimize that. I just add back some of the gain that is lost from compressing and it sits really nice in the mix. Another one of my favorite features is the Gain Wizard. When a channel is clipping it shows you which channel and how many clicks to lower the gain for that channel.

I bought this mixer for the ability to mix from the IPad app which has worked pretty well although I have to reset the connection on the mixer every time I use it. We were just about to buy a snake and hire a sound man to run our sound but this is much more convenient and cleaner looking. With all of the features built in it has improved our sound and allows us to save money on the sound man. Everyone has a wireless and can go out front and listen and adjust levels. I keep the IPad mounted on my mic stand and can keep an eye on the gain levels and adjust the monitor levels. I would like to see an iPhone/Android app come out for this so the other band members can adjust their own monitor mixes.

Overall, I'm very happy with this mixer but it does take a little time to figure it out. Once you have the settings the way you want them you can save them and recall later. It eliminates the need to buy all of the outboard processing stuff and puts everything in one compact unit. Every input channel and output is completely adjustable to whatever you want it to be. If I were starting over with buying a PA I would just buy the Touchmix and the QSC powered speakers.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

This is by far the best compact digital mixer I have ever worked with. The people at QSC really know what's going on out there in the musician world and make products very user friendly. I highly recommend this new mixer from QSC to any performer or band. From factory presets, to on-board Advance Effects including reverb, delay, chorus, pitch shift & correct , saving your scenes from different venues, and having enough aux outputs to have your whole band on a personal monitor system with their own effects is just plain awesome! Plus controlling the whole mix from the iPad app is a great feature, especially if you don't have a sound person. Remember its good to invest your money in great quality gear to get a great quality sound and this mixer is beyond a winner for that!

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

We recently installed an outdoor sound system on our corporate campus. I'm a fan of QSC products and after reading about the new Touchmix mixers it was the natural choice. We ended up receiving our Touchmix 16 a couple of weeks before it officially ships and it has exceeded my expectations.

The Touchmix 16 is part of a semi-installed outdoor sound system. It's rack mounted with an 8ch Yamaha amp, 2x sennheiser wirless mics, and a BT receiver. The speakers are permanently mounted QSC AD8T and ADS-52T speakers in the main pavilion and Yamaha VXS5 speakers in the side pavilions.

With the Touchmix we have a mixer/speaker processor/HD recording system that can be operated with an iPad, but - unlike the uber-expensive systems spec'd out by installed sound contractors - does not REQUIRE a tablet or PC for setup and calibration. I can see why all three contractors bidding on the job poo poo'd the Touchmix: it eliminated a ton of expensive rack-mounted gear and was super easy to set up.

I need to give a shout out to QSC's tech writers: the manual is superb. The writing is concise, user-friendly, and humorous. BUT... if you've spent much time with mixers you won't need to read it in order to use the Touchmix - the software is THAT well designed.

In terms of truly useful features, the QSC engineers went berserk. The marketing literature and specs do a great job of describing what the unit can do but don't capture the subtle and useful ways many of the features are implemented.

        Some examples:

If you notice that a channel has gone into clipping you can use the Gain Wizard to get it sorted. The Gain Wizard looks at how long and how often the channel has clipped and tells you how much to turn down the input gain. That's a really nice touch!

You can save presets and apply them to individual input channels... Or to the entire mix (scenes).

When you save a scene you have the option of not saving the fader levels. This lets you recall compression, EQ, Gating, Effects, Routing, etc. and just set the levels.

Setting a time delay between speakers for a more cohesive sound is easy. There's one knob and three readouts: feet, meters, and time. Watch the readout you're most comfortable with and turn the knob. Simple.

You can link mono channels to form a stereo pair... on the input channels and on the Aux outputs.

DCA groups make it easy to raise/lower the level of several channels all at once. DCA groups can apply to individual channels as well as the Aux outputs. I've never used DCA groups before and the interface was so intuitive I grouped four Aux outputs into three groups and renamed them in about 10 minutes... Without the manual.

Channels, Aux outputs and DCA groups can all be renamed. Just click in the name box and start typing.

The folks at QSC obviously put a lot of thought into who would use the mixer, where they would use it, and how. I'm old school when it comes to mixers - I like faders and knobs that I can touch and feel. But after just a few minutes with this mixer I would feel very comfortable mixing a small gig or contemporary church worship service with it.
