Increased headroom, uncompromising sound.
The Radial J48 is a great-sounding active direct box that has been optimized to produce maximum headroom while working within the limited current available from standard 48V phantom power. By employing a unique switching power supply, the J48 is capable of peak transients to 9 volts without choking. The result is lower harmonic distortion, half the intermodulation distortion and significantly improved dynamics over other DIs.
Features include a -15dB pad, 180 degree polarity reverse, a unique merge function to mix 2 signals to mono, an 80Hz high-pass rumble filter, and ground lift. Like all Radial products, the J48 is built to handle abuse on the road and features a unique welded I-beam construction for years of trouble-free performance.

I may buy a couple more of these.
I purchased this phantom powered DI box to help boost the gain from a Markley pickup on an accounting guitar. This box made a big improvement! I used to run the gain at max and then got a weak feed with poor clarity. This box makes it sound like a different guitar. The signal is much stronger and a great deal more head room. I now run the gain at about 50% and get a much warmer sound from the pickup. This phantom powered DI was weel worth the money! It also is a clean signal with no A/C hum from the phantom power. I do sound for a church worship team and some sideline gigs.
A very sturdy metal box and good looking setup.
Good value for the price.

I am a home hobbiest and home recorder.
I do not understand why, given the equipment which I already own, I need such a device.
I have excellent preamps, several of which offer DI for high impedance instruments. I own excellent software, plugins, guitar amp / speaker simmulation SW, good guitar amps, excellent microphones.
Yet with this device, I achieve a much better sound quality. And the difference is not subtle. The difference is not a change which only a trained audio engineer can hear. The difference is striking!
So for those of you who pursue the "Holy grail" of beautiful guitar signal, before you spend more $s on audioi plug ins, simulation SW, new guitar amp, new microphones, new preamp, new ADA converters, etc ..., you OWE it to yourself to try one of the Radial active DIs.
Please also understand that your final guitar signal will depend on all of the components along the way between your instrument and your recording device. Do not expect this device to make a miracle; IMO, do expect this device to make a very significant improvement.
It has what I need. And the LPF works as it should
As best I can tell, all of the few ports and buttons do as they should.
Until someone else can figure out how to offer this quality for less.

Straight to the point: I will never plug a guitar, keyboard, etc. directly into a mixer again. Believe the hype...the Radial J48 MK2 is the real deal and it will take the sound dampening blankets off your instrument's signal.Now that guitar simulation plug-ins are becoming very realistic a lot of musicians are recording direct. I highly recommend this if you want to go the amp sim route, especially for bass guitar.You may see DIs going for 1/10 the cost of this but believe me...you may as well flush that money down the toilet. Really...this has been my best gear purchase in a while and can't believe I recorded without one.This DI is versatile in that it can handle instruments with active pickups (like a passive DI) as well as instruments without. And you don't need to worry about replacing batteries!It gives the most neutral tone of all direct insertion boxes on the market and has many useful features that solve prior active direct box issues such as ground lift, polarity reverse and attenuation.
