Comments about Rode Microphones M3 Multi-Powered Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
Acquired the Rode M3 condenser for $1 through Rode's mic deal after purchasing a pair of Rode NT2-A mics from Musicians Friend. Didn't really need the battery feature, but it's nice to have in a pinch. Used it to record vocal, viola & acoustic guitar in the home studio, and was very pleased with the results. Clear, colorless sound with plenty of gain. Good cardioid pattern with excellent off-axis rejection. Compared it to Shure 57, Beta 58 & 87 and much prefer the M3 for sound quality & signal output. Seems to be sturdy and very well built. Adjustments are a little difficult to access, but at least they are there. With a pair of NT2-As around, will probably not use for vocals except for location recordings. Warning: when powering up phantom power, keep the mixer level/monitor output down as there is a hefty "thump." Compares well with mics costing much more. I'm fast becoming a Rode devotee. Now, if Musicians Friend will just run the Rode Classic II on the Stupid Deal of the Day...
