Great for Acoustic Guitar

Comments about Rode Microphones NT3 Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone:

When I first started using this mic, it didn't sound very detailed at all. I got the idea to use a battery instead of phantom power and BAM! this thing came alive! Not sure why this is, but I am totally shocked. My guitar recordings now sound just like they do in "real life". Highly recommended.

Limited Home Studio Use.

By rob billharz

from Kentucky

Comments about Rode Microphones NT3 Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone:

The Rode NT 3 is an excellent mike for recording large bodied acoustic guitars, and is worth the price for that use alone. The pickup pattern is very directional and can be beneficial for isolating a guitar in a live performance.
It is not a mic I would use for my vocals and is too bright for recording mandolin or banjo.
The one design complaint I have with this microphone is that the battery is not disconnected when the mic is switched off. To disconnect the battery the XLR jack has to be disconnected.
The other complaints I have with this mic are the soft zipper pouch and the clip stand mount that came with this mike. This is a quality mic that deserves a proper storage case and a good shock mount!
The Rode NT 3 microphone comes standard with a microphone stand clip mount, zippered storage pouch, and a wind screen.
The microphone also has an on/off switch and a small red light. The light shines briefly when the mike is turned on if the battery is charged. It will not light if the battery is dead even if the mike is connected to a phantom power supply.
The Rode NT 3's is build solid and the sound is of profession quality.
This microphone is excellent for recording large bodied acoustic guitars. It captures the pick attack and the high end and rejects the low end that can muddy up a mix. It is my go mike for recording my Martin D-35 and D-12-35. I also like using this mike in combination with a large diaphragm condenser for recording mandolin.

Great for CHORAL applications

By The_Choir_Master

from Oregon

Comments about Rode Microphones NT3 Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone:

I am a singer, choral director, and recording enthusiast/audiophile. I have worked with some of the best-known microphones for choral applications. These mics outperform the c1000's hands-down. I would prefer these to some overhead (hanging) choral mics costing $100's more. These work beautifully for live sound, and in recording, they are very clear. I have used these for everyhting from a quartet, to a 10-person acappella group, in solo work, and in large ensembles, all with good results. For this price, it is a wonder they aren't being used everywhere. Amazing sounds at an unbeatable price!

Clear, Precise, Accurate.

By SoundDownUnder

from Sydney, Australia

Comments about Rode Microphones NT3 Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone:

I own a pair of these microphones and have today bought another two. The clarity and unaffected capturing of the original source by these NT3's is excellent. They are sensitive and totally uncoloured. If you want a recording that "tells it like it" is then I recommend these microphones. At the price they are unbeatable.

Use them for acoustic guitars in studio

By Larry J-DeV6U

from Middle of USA

Comments about Rode Microphones NT3 Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone:

We use a pair (we own three) of these in studio to record acoustic guitars, violins, and other small/medium sized acoustic instruments. We mic the head of a Djembe with one (and the bottom with a 1 inch diaphragm mic).I would describe them as uncolored and transparent and they produce a full sound. Very sensitive (what condenser mic is not?) and we don't miss the interchangable heads from the C-1000 which doesn't produce as good results as these do.We have even used them live in small settings for non-pickup acoustics and classical guitars and they sound as good as the instruments we are miking.

Great Mic For The Money

By Keysmandan

from Virginia

Comments about Rode Microphones NT3 Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone:

I have owned several condenser mics, Own more than one rode mic. These were recommended to me by a large producer who makes a living by producing and songwriting. I don't regret buying them. Rode stands up with the best of them. Not a lot of features, but straight up an excellent mic for the money.

Bought it for a home studio. It is extremely portable due to it running off a 9v battery as well as phantom power.
