A great tool for composition, learning, and archiving!
Whether your goal is to record audio and make CDs to present a performance or composition for evaluation, to advance your playing skills with the help of high-tech learning tools, to preserve and archive important audio, or to capture unforgettable moments like concerts or public events, the CD-2 will do the job quickly and simply with pro-quality results.
Recording is a breeze on the CD-2. A high-quality stereo microphone is built in for top-grade, on-the-spot recording; additional mics can be plugged in as well. The CD-2 records directly onto CDs. So start playing, and as soon as you're done, you'll have a finished, professional CD! For extra-long recording times (complete concerts, church services, etc.), the CD-2 offers recording to CompactFlash media, and supports up to 2 GB capacity for approximately 6 hours of recording time at 16-bit/44.1 kHz linear mode.
Edit Your Recordings!
When recording to CompactFlash, your audio can be edited using functions such as Audio Level Adjustment, Song Erase, and Trim for cutting out silence between songs. Once you have everything the way you want it, you can burn your performance directly to CD.
Students will appreciate the CD-2's usefulness as an educational/practice tool, thanks to its built-in stereo speakers, speed/pitch control, tuner, and metronome. You can easily record lessons or musical passages and play them back at a slower tempo while retaining the original pitch. Or change the pitch of the audio and play along in different key signatures. The CD-2 provides some great learning advantages for all levels of students.
The CD-2 makes it easy to get audio in and out. For ultra convenience, a stereo microphone is built-in, so all you have to do is point and shoot. Or, if desired, you can plug in external mics with the 2 XLR inputs, complete with phantom power. A pair of RCA inputs and outputs is provided for convenient connection to electronic piano, CD player, or stereos; using the 1/4-inch inputs you can plug guitars, mics, and other instruments directly into the CD-2. And if you like, you can use the built-in guitar effects or reverb to greatly enhance your guitar or vocal sounds.
Enhance your recordings with the CD-2's lineup of professional audio effects such as reverb, EQ, and compression. Make your recordings sound more ambient and lush or punchy and crisp. Special tools are also provided for guitar and vocals, and the onboard mastering effects help you put the final polish on your audio before you burn it on CD. You won't believe how good your recordings can sound and how friendly the CD-2's tools are to use.

This happens to be the most pain..not worth my time...waste of money device I have ever placed my hands on. This thing craps out easily and distorts recodrings often. If you are looking for something to waste your money on then get it otherwise do NOT purchase this device...it is horrible!
I am very glad I bought this recorder.1. I get clear feedback for music formyself and playing with others duringrehearsal or live. And I made a lotof CDs of my music.2. Tuning, metronome all in one place.3. Would be nice if all the jacks canrecord together rather than just one jackprempting others. 4. Able to adjust Speed of playing of CDs isgreat for me to get use to playing my partwith orchestra music or with other duet playersand singers. The sound is distorted slightlywhen slowing down the play.Wish my guitar teacher can get one.
Whether you're recording your jam sessions, your gigs, or even a church service; the Roland CD2 is the perfect product! It has studio-quality mics built right into it, as well as inputs to plug it straight into your instrument, external mic, or mixing board. The Roland CD2 is able to record simultaneously to CD and flash memory card, giving you an instant CD at the end of the session and the ability to easily burn more straight from the flash memory card! The editing features are great, and you can have audio files ready to stream from the internet in no time! This little unit also allows you to put a music CD into it, recording an instant karaoke / backing track without the original vocals! The Roland CD2 is a very portable and versatile recording unit, and I highly recommend it!
This was purchased for recording lessons for students.Beware of the following:Recording with on board mics to flash card is great, but then you have to wait an extra 25 minutes, as well as some fiddling around to transfer the hour session to the CD and finalize (not acceptable for music teachers). So, record straight to CD - this is fine, but cannot do this with on board mic due to the spin of the CD being loud in the recording.OK, so record to CD with external mics. This is fine, but you have to crank the gain all the way up because there is little or no preamp (using SM58). Also, when using external mics, the mics are amplified through the external speakers while recording (????). There is no way to turn off this interesting feature, so you must turn down the output during the recording, then turn it up to listen to a track you just recorded. If I would have known about these features, I would have pick something else for my application.
I recently purchased the Roland CD-2 for my general music classroom. It is easy to use and has many features that are ideal for the general music classroom. I have been auditioning over 100 students for an upcoming concert. In the past, I would record my comments on paper and hope I remembered what singer 7 (out of 100+ singers) sounded like. Now, I can record 30 seconds of each and every student, listen back to the tracks at my convenience, and burn them to a CD if needed. Students at classroom stations can compose, play and then record their own pieces on bell sets, recorders, etc. I can't wait to connect my keyboard and record student parts for our spring musical. It is a solid device which holds up to student use yet is easy to use by students. I am extremely pleased with my purchase!
This is a great recorder for high school or middle school bands to record rehearsals using the internal mics and recording concerts using external mics. Can record to either Compact Flash cards or directly to CDs.
