I tried this based off of reviews. My band practices really loud it seems to overcome a powerful acoustic drummer. Drummer cant hear amps unless they are at earsplitting levels, and the places we practice are small, so ringing in ears is always a problem. ear plugs kinda work but just muffle everything, and are no fun. So I bought this, mic'd up, and used ear buds that you can jam in your ears not just rest outside of them. It was truly awesome. I could hear myself clearly and still hear everyone else by just turning up or down my headphone level. My amp was loud, but I could only really hear it out of my headphones. And it was a a clear enough signal for me. After practice, absolutely no ringing in my ears. Haven't used it live yet, but I will and even if the mic through doesn't work, I will just run another mic to the mixer. It truly was a joy to practice being able to hear myself like I was jamming along to a CD or MP3 through the computer. I would highly recommend this off of today's practice.

In a nutshell, these monitor boxes are nice for low-budget users, but for anyone who demands a clean and clear sound, stay away from these. As a combined MON/FOH operator, I appreciate the fact that people can add more or less of themselves without bothering me, but that's all they can do. While it relieves some duties from me, the quality loss both in the talent's ears as well as the pass-thru signal is completely not worth it.Yes, that's correct, I said loss of quality for the pass-thru signal. With these boxes, that talent's instrument passes thru each box and then into the snake, thus making EVERY INSTRUMENT pass thru one of these boxes. I notice distortion on the keyborads, loss of fatness from the bass, a guitars that sound tinny and empty.I've tried E1s, E3s, E4s, and Sony MDR's; same results. The limited on these is weak and cannot be trusted. I blew a pair of personal E4s i have used for months; one plug into the drummer's rolls, 30 seconds later the left ear blows and higher SPL distorts. I have removed all of these from our stage set-up and WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. I hope this review helps.

Does exaclty what is supposed to...

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

These little boxes are made rock solid. I have been involved in live sound and recording for almost 15 years and with the transition from wedges to IEM, this is your first natural step. For those that can't afford an Aviom or HearBack system, this little box will help in re-solve some (not all) of the issues that those same systems do. With a praise band of 8 members, we have moved from stage volume wars to these boxes. We have no wedges on the stage any more. Each musician gets a general mix from the board to a headphone splitter on stage and then to their personal monitor mix on the box. We then plug their instrument directly into the box and then into the sound system. No each musician will not have the control of every musician, but this at least lets them hear everything plus they can control how loud they are and the need for MON engineer is lessoned. If you lose quality in this sound then send it back and get another. These are a pass through box and should have no effect on the sound. These are a great solution to anyone need for a small budget fix for a better monitoring mix situation.

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

The only thing that keeps this from getting five stars is the fact that unless my band mate who has a similar product didn't know what to do, I would have had just a left ear in the mix. I actually like the fact that it's not very easy to switch the output from stereo to mono (as the method used to switch will not accidentally happen), but it would have been nice for it to be covered in the instructions.

A must-have for singing drummers

By Misterwoodman

from Lakeway, TX

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

As a drummer who sings, for years I've had a really difficult time hearing myself through a monitor placed off to the side -- especially over the noise of an acoustic drum kit. I bought this personal monitor and combined it with the Shure E2 isolating in-ear monitors and was blown away. This little monitor not only lets you control how much of your own vocals you hear, but you can also control the monitor mix with a separate volume knob. I've only used it a couple of times, so I don't know if it's sturdy, but it works great.

Only one thing would make it better...

By JK-OiG.D

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

If this thing had TWO inputs I think it might be perfect. I am a singing drummer and it would be cool to be able to put a click track in along with my vocal mic, but otherwise this little thing is GREAT. Didn't notice a loss of fidelity...just using some Sony earbuds most of the time and the sound is fine (after it's been through the EQ). I'm recommending this to everyone I know who doesn't need a wireless system.

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

I've been using one of these for several years now. I'm a drummer and also sing lead. I use this with a single Shure SE215 in-ear monitor. I've searched for years for a workable monitor solution. All of which have been subject to room acoustics, feedback and lack of space. I can't tell you how much bang for the buck you get with this. You have the option of hearing just your own mic or can balance it with a line out from the mixer. This product has made singing consistently enjoyable and removes the anxiety about whether I'm going to hear myself today or not... If you're a drummer in a fixed location, BUY IT! I'm serious. I bought a second one with the battery option as well. The Rolls, with the SE215s exceed the benefit on any other two single pieces of gear that I've ever purchased in 38 years of playing music. Now when I play gigs with a house systems, I just tell the sound engineer, "you can turn my monitor off, I don't need it". Simple to use, sets up quickly and is built tough. Great piece of gear!

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

We have been looking for a great way to give our instrumental team control of their monitors. The ROLLS PM50 does just that. GREAT Sound. Jumper switch to go from stereo to mono input (from the monitor line), headphone or speaker output. The mic line thru is GREAT for instrumentalists who need to have control of how much they hear of themselves. We're going to be getting more soon!
