Large-diaphragm condenser mic with shockmount and integrated pop filter.

sE's best-selling, multiple-award-winning, GRAMMY-singer-recording cardioid mic has been given a facelift and a feature update. With the same hand-built brass capsule as the original, the Mark II version of this modern classic adds a multi-pattern version, a clever quick-release shockmount with integrated pop filter, and rubberized black paint to dampen any chassis resonances.

At the heart of the 2200a II is the hand-built, hand-tuned brass capsule that put sE on the map as a serious microphone manufacturer. With a gold-sputtered center-terminated diaphragm (two of these back-to-back on the multi-pattern version), the 2200a II's capsule is built in the same style as the vintage European capsules that have been used and loved for many decades.

If all you need is a cardioid polar pattern - most vocals will only require this - the 2200a II C is a great choice. But if you want to experiment with different amounts of room sound, various instruments, or multiple sound sources, the multiple pattern controls of the 2200a II are a valuable asset. In addition to the standard -10dB setting, the multi pattern 2200a II includes a -20dB setting for additional low-frequency control.

Part of the 2200a II's update can be seen in the clever new quick-release Isolation Pack shockmount. With the twist of a single knob, the mount attaches quickly and securely to the microphone, and is removable with the same simple motion. This allows the mic to be set up quickly and easily - no adjustments, no hassle.

Comments about sE Electronics 2200a II Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone:

If I were only allowed 1 mic in my personal studio I wouldn't feel the least bit hesitant to choose this one (over anything else out there). This mic doesn't bring "the magic" like some mics claim to, and it isn't the one perfect mic for every job in the studio, but it is so clear and evenly full throughout the frequency range that every signal that passes through it is thoroughly usable! Nothing sounds bad - at least that I've found. I have favorite mics for "this singer's voice" or "that acoustic guitar", but when it comes down to it, if I don't have the time to find "the perfect mic" for the job, I'm grabbing this mic and getting to work. No worries. Start your microphone collection here - you will never regret the decision, especially for the value. Then add other mics for specific applications later when you need them.

Comments about sE Electronics 2200a II Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone:

I was in the market for a new LDC mic when I came across the sE2200A MKII. I took a chance and ordered it. Glad I did. I was blown away by the sound and what I noticed most was the silky, smooth highs on vocals and acoustic guitar. This mic is a winner and IMO can easily compete with some of the more expensive mics I've used. If you're looking for a natural and warm sounding mic without the highs sounding hyped, definitely check this one out.
