I have owned the Sennheiser e835 microphone since 1999 and it has performed excellently over all these years. I am a working musician and singer who works regularly and puts a lot of mileage and wear & tear on my gear. This mic sounds great, very clear and crisp and I have never had any problem with feedback… and I usually stand right in front of a very hot speaker. It's been a great microphone. I just purchased a second one today to use as my main mic and keep the older one as a backup. I definitely prefer it to the Sure SM58.

The day after I received the latest catalog, I went on line to order a sale item - Sennheiser e838. I could not find it on line. I called for assistance and sales person I spoke with could not find it either. They said it was probably out of stock. The day after I received the catalog with the sales offer? So, I ended up buying the e835 instead. I prefer the sound of the e838 over the e835 as well as would have preferred to have the new mic look the same as the others I previously purchased. Not a huge deal, however, now I have one black one (e835) and two silver ones (e838).

Great Lead Vocal Mic

Comments about Sennheiser e 835 Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

Bought this Mic a while back to replace a Shure Sm57 that had way to many road miles on it. I was pleased the first night when I hooked it up for our lead singer to use. It had clarity and fullness close to condenser mic's costing a lot more $$. After hearing the difference I started using it myself in my one man act and it has been awesome thru my Bose system! A very good mic and a meager price tag!
Frequency response and a wide enough pickup pattern works well for me.
Rugged, sturdy and soli.
For the price I could not beat it.

Comments about Sennheiser e 835 Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

We run a serious house concert series. This mic is highly effective for capturing vocals when the goal is to reinforce an acoustic presentation, rather than only amplify.

Top folk/Americana artists have put away their 58s and used our 835s. The comments from 7 years of musicians performing here have been; "brighter without being unnatural", "crisp without being too sharp".

We know of a few serious musicians, who have bought their own 835s after first using them here.

The only negative we have heard has been from a very few younger female vocalists (with higher ranges) who say they are "a little too crisp". While this may be true for some, I think this is likely based upon what they are used to hearing with 58s or lesser mics.

This is a great, durable mic. Ive used it both as a live vocal mic and in the studio as well. Had put a lot of road miles on this mic, been dropped, tossed in a bag, tossed in a case etc and is still in great shape and in working order.

Beats other mics in the price range

    By Chris Hessian

    from Illinois

Comments about Sennheiser e 835 Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I wanted the Beta58 but it was out my price range at the time. I am happy that I purchased this microphone. It is certainly an upgrade. I will be using it for lead vocals in a rock/pop group that gets quite loud. I will also be using it as the main mic for the open mic I run. The black pop screen rather than silver (like Shure mics) is nice because the Shure mics need theirs replaced frequently in order to avoid looking like they had something ugly wiped on them. I want more mics like this. This is the second Sennheiser microphone (MK 4 is the other) that blew me away with it's value.
Does it's job. It handles movement well. I can move right to left and backwards and the mic maintains it's volume level. That is one major feature that I like.
Higher quality than I would expect from a mic in this price range. It beats the SM58, no question. Better microphone for live vocals than the 58. I assume it can handle some abuse. I just bought it, so I do not know yet. But I don't plan on treating it like a baby, so it's going to have to hold up.
Good value. Will buy more of these.

Comments about Sennheiser e 835 Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

as a rapper and producer, i wanted a high quality dynamic mic for my less-than-ideal untreated home setup. i've recorded vocals on sm58s to great results. so, i went shopping for some new mics and caught this one on sale. the salesperson insisted i give it a try. i was reluctant, but when i fired it up at home i was amazed.

my only problem with the mic was that it picked up a lot of sibilance, even with the pop filter. that's likely due to the super-present high-end. i used a de-esser plug-in and the vocals were prefect. i've never gotten results like this out of an sm58, and i still swear by them.

if you catch this mic on sale, don't even think. just give it a try. i'd even suggest giving it a try over the standard sm58. i guarantee it'll punch through your mix better.

of course, the biggest problem with recording dynamic mics is GAIN, GAIN, GAIN. unless you have an amazing pre with like 80dB of gain, you might want to invest in a secondary preamp like cloudlifter or fethead to boost the mic's output before you make the preamp work overtime.

for live shows, i could imagine this mic is excellent for vocalists who want to punch through muddy/cloudy mid-range sounds. just make sure the high-end/sibilance is to your liking during sound check.

No lengthy info...had a 58 for years. After 2 gigs, I have been told how great my vocals are, and I'm the secondary vocalist(guitar and back ground mainly). In fact, one club owner insisted I must've taken vocal lessons. Could not be happier! Look on award shows or live appearances...the pros use this brand.

I performed a shootout with the 835 against the Shure sm58 and 2 EV mics. I was looking for the best overall sound for both voice and acoustic guitar recording when recorded individually. The e 835 won. I was surprised.

Awesome mics. Bought two instead of the same priced SM58's (about one hund/ea) from Guitar Ctr. They are great, sound incredible, are easily EQ'd without much/any feedback. I use them for my Karaoke shows and get nothing but compliments. Simple setup: my laptop through an Alesis USB16 mixer into two Behringer 212D powered speakers. Two Sennheiser e835 mics...that's IT. Sounds Incredible.

I used a Shure SM 58 beta for 30 years in bars lounges and large parties. The Sennheiser seems to me to trade off the base and booming proximity effect of the Shure for crystal clear and more natural sounding vocals when worked up close. It doesn't interfere with or color my expression of the song.

We purchased three of these mics about 12 years ago and have put them through heavy serevice doing live performances. When one finally died, it was a no brainer to replace it with the same product. You can't go wrong with these tried and true vocal mics. The clarity and range are exceptional. Try them, you won't be disappointed, especially for the price.

Comments about Sennheiser e 835 Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

The only bad side with this nice microphone is that it doesn't have a turn off switch and sometimes you will get feedback and there's no way to stop it.
