Closed-back, around-the-ear stereo headphones featuring powerful bass reproduction.

Sennheiser's HD 202 II headphones are inexpensive DJ headphones with a closed, dynamic, semi-circumaural stereo design. Specially constructed damping material ensures powerful bass response and combine with its lightweight turbine diaphragms to provide clear, crisp bass as featured in much of today's rhythm-driven music. Just dropped by to order my fourth pair and thought I'd leave a review. The bass is awesome. The highs sound great to me as well. Most other headphones ive had in the past have high end harshness or peak-y-ness to my ears when cranked up where these sound crisp yet smooth in the high frequencies at any volume. Maybe its my ears or taste or whatever but I think these babys sound better than anything ive tried although I never tried anything that cost more than triple than these because im afraid I would break them too. I use them for playing guitar silently when mood or neighbors presuade me to do so and for listening to music usually at my laptop. A long cord is a MUST for plugging into stationary equipment where you could lean back or stand up or take a step to the side during a particularly good string bend and jerk on your source equipment and these phones have plenty with a cord about 9 feet long.

The only problem i have is a big one. The 1/8 jack (or more accuately the wires inside the flexy part of the jack) always ends up breaking. Not breaking off but one speaker channel will static/die intermittently if you wiggle it wrong. After a month or so of that its bad enough that you have to pull on the cord constantly by rigging it up under the laptop or an FX pedal to get it to play both channels. Then it just dies. All three pairs I have bought new have failed like this and all on the right-side channel. The ones I've bought have lasted me about a year, about nine months, and about two years, respectively. Thats not great but I keep coming back for more because they sound great and they're cheap. I'm definetly harder on headphones than average because I wear them in standing on my feet situations like playing guitar and yank on the plug pretty hard every once in a while by accident. I'd imagine these headphones would last much longer with somebody that is gentle with them. I keep breaking them but I keep getting them again and again. Great phones just be gentle with them. If you are rough with headphones and you don't want to have to replace them or you need headphones for a "can't fail" situation like DJ'ing or live performance monitoring you might want something a little more durable.
Overall I would recommend them to most people despite my track record of breaking jacks.

I would have rated them higher but they're not a closed invironment like the Bose. Unless you have them turned up too loud, a bit of room noise gets through because of the on-ear design. I'm not saying you could drive with these on, just not noise cancelling Take a pair home, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I received these headphones as part of a package when buying a keyboard a few years ago. Because they were giveaways, I didn't have very high expectations of them. However, they have become my daily use headphones. Their response is very even all the way through both ends of the spectrum. Very defined and clear. The stereo image is crisp and vivid. I'm not saying they're the best phones I've ever heard, but for the price, you really can't do better than these babies.
For wearability, they are comfortable through about two movies together -- which is about all one could expect from anything clamped to ones head for that long. Even on a head like mine which is more like your driveway than your lawn. Finally, the straight cord is much more to my liking than a coiled snake. When they say 10' cord, you get 10', not 4.5' coiled up and tangled like nightcrawlers. I don't toss these around the room, but they have stood up to grandkids and me without any signs of wear or deterioration. After 2 years, they still sound very good.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 202 II Headphones:

Love these headphones. I've bought 3 pair in the last 10-14yrs. I haven't found any for the price with as good of sound. I love loud rock music and they're perfect for it. The last two times one side stopped working and I would have to adjust and hold the plug so I bought another. It's probably more my fault?

Comments about Sennheiser HD 202 II Headphones:

The radio station where I work has a pair of these, and as a guy used to using reasonably flat-response studio headphones like Fostex T20s, and Sony MDR7506s, I'm not a fan of these Sennheisers at all. There's a big boost in the lower bass frequencies, then a sudden fall-off in the mid to upper bass regions, then a big spike around the 1 kHz midrange area. Not even remotely close to a flat frequency response. Also, they're tight on the head. The Sony MDR-ZX100 headphones are much better sounding and much less like a vice on your head. And they're less than half the price of these Sennheisers. Unless you're a tiny-headed fan of inflated bass and honky mids, I'd avoid.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 202 II Headphones:

Awesome choice for this price point. I plug them right into my Fender Rumble 30 for bass practice/wood shedding that doesn't shake the neighboring condos or blow the wife out of the other room. Excellent bass response without hardly any "muddy" at the bottom. Surprisingly awesome when kicking in the distortion...I wish it sounded that good out of the actual cab. Bottom line, you won't find a better sound or durability...or flexibility / versatility...anywhere near this price. I liked them enough to get a second pair so...

I often use "Go To Meeting" in my business but couldn't hear the built in mike in my computer. My wife plunked her headphones (this same set) on my desk and said, "Try these". A new world opened to me. I ordered a set for myself and find them very clear, comfortable to wear and a tremendous improvement in hearing.

I use these at work and also when practicing on the drum kit. Isolation is good so I can hear the music as I play along. Could be just a bit louder. They are clear and have enough range for me. I wish the cable was heavier as I worry about braking it.
