OVERVIEW

A harmonica microphone that allows you to employ all of your acoustic harmonica technique.

The Shaker Madcat harmonica microphone is the ultimate combination of form and function, an intelligently designed, ergonomically shaped harp player’s tool. Comprised of three parts: a center connecting web that fits between the fingers and connects the two pods, the bottom pod houses the dynamic element and the upper pod is an acoustically tuned chamber and tone control, utilizing Shaker’s GNS technology.

In your hands, the Madcat mic becomes part of a complex system where the harmonica, the microphone and the hands create a new type of instrument, allowing harp players an unbelievable level of control over their sound, their tone, effects, dynamics and techniques. Imagine playing amplified harmonica without having to hold a microphone, retaining all the nuance and hand gestures of acoustic harmonica, but now you're amplified and dangerous. The possibilities are mind blowing. Just listen to the great Peter “Madcat” Ruth to hear what this mic will allow you to do. The Madcat Microphone works great with guitar effects pedals and is extremely feedback resistant. This Shaker microphone opens up a new world of sonic possibilities to the harp player.

If you use a Shaker mic with an impedance-matching transformer into the input of your amp your Shaker mic becomes super charged, driving your amp into aural overdrive. All Shaker harmonica microphones are really two very different units in one. Direct to amp has the traditional Shaker tone and response. Used with a line-matching transformer and you get high output - hot and driven. Maximum flexibility, it’s your choice.

Inspired and co-designed by world-famous harmonica great Peter “Madcat” Ruth.

Comments about Shaker Madcat Harmonica Microphone:

The Madcat was successor to my broken Green Bullet. I wanted a less bulky mic with more hand control. It does that very well.

It took a while to get used to it resting between my fingers (I put it between middle and ring), but became natural after a bit of practice.

The Volume Knob is intuitive and easy to access quickly and on the fly.

It is not feedback-proof, but a tad better than my bullet.

The reason I am not going to be using this anymore is the short cord off of the mic. You have to couple it to another 1/4" cable and find something to do with that bulky mess of gear. I never found a comfortable solution to this (ended up putting it in my pocket) and the coupler provided lost its ability to hold onto a cable after about 6 months. I could keep buying new ones but, to be honest, after loosing connection a few times on stage, I think I'm going with another mic. On recommendation and because I really do like Shaker, I'm going to try out their Retro Rocket next.

Fantastic Customer Service

By Bill

from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Comments about Shaker Madcat Harmonica Microphone:

I did a lot of research on the net before I decided to buy the Madcat Harmonica Microphone. Musician's Friend were great and it was delivered quickly. I am using the mic to record harmonica in my studio, and it exceeded my expectations. It is a great poduct.

However, because I am using it in a studio setting, I wanted to use the included 'phono jack connector' to connect it through a switched guitar cable. That would allow me to leave the mic connected when I was not using it and simply switch if off using the button on the guitar cable.

When I hooked up the mic, I found that the connector was faulty. I wrote an email to Shaker Microphones asking if they could help me. I received and answer within 15 minutes and a replacement connector was in the mail to me the same day.

I value after-sales service almost as much as product quality. After this experience Shaker products will always be at the top of my list of 'prefered products'.

Comments about Shaker Madcat Harmonica Microphone:

We don't have a sound guy in our garage band and I can control my volume level where I stand.
Turned up loud I am not getting any feed back and the guys say they can hear me now.

Exactly what I was looking for!

By Stan

from Houston, TX

Comments about Shaker Madcat Harmonica Microphone:

Per Shaker's recommendation I bought the Madcat. I was looking for a harmonica microphone that would give me a clean, distortion free sound and this little mic really delivers. I generally play the harp on folk, classic country and classic rock songs as an accent instrument or for background melody so wanted a clean sound. Blues players would probably prefer a different mic where they can crank in some distortion for that blusey sound. The little Madcat was just what I was looking for and would recommend it, highly.

Comments about Shaker Madcat Harmonica Microphone:

This thing is works great. I hook it through my guitar wireless and through my ME-70 to create what ever sound i want. Hit the distortion pedal for a more blues sound then off for a clean country sound. Phaser adds a more tremolo effect. More fun working out new sound as I go. a nice plastic case for storage would be nice as all you get is a cloth bag. It is small enough to fit in my gig bag so i just take it that way.

Comments about Shaker Madcat Harmonica Microphone:

I bought this microphone for use with harmonica and a small amp. I have no other experience with microphones for the harmonica to compare this to. I saw another player on video using a madcat so I researched it and thought it would be a nice fit for me and it is. It is comfortable and light to hold between my fingers and it puts out nice clear sound through the amp. I would definitely recommend.
