I'm a harp pro, a teacher, and have used lots of equipment. When it comes to harp, the Green Bullet is possibly the best stock microphone you can get. But just like the harp itself, you have to learn to use it to get the sound. This mic has to have a great airtight handcup. If your cup is loose and airy, yes, you will have shrill tone, and be prone to feedback.

I found it to be difficult to control feedback. The volume control was handy. The cable is a bit of a pain, but not too much to deal with. Personally, I found a cleaner microphone (Shure SM57) being better to use (and overdrive with the amp)and more comfortable to hold. I also found that bolting a bicycle water bottle cage to the microphone stand (use hoseclamps) works well as a holder. It has decent resale value, as I was able to get the bulk of my money back, but after a year of ownership, I'm happier now that it's gone.

Comments about Shure 520DX Green Bullet Mic:
My wife got this for me for Christmas, so I have only had it for 10 days, but it is a matter of "where have you been all my life?". This thing can play cleaner than I expected when necessary, but just add a little overdrive and I can get a totally authentic Little Walter-Chess Records sound and blow the walls down. It is somewhat heavy for its size, but that's a matter of being solidly built.
Like others, I agree that it would be better if the cord were detachable--long experience with mikes tells me it WILL go bad at some point, and it would be easier just to replace the cord than to have the unit repaired. Also, it would mean the user could choose how long a cord they want.

Comments about Shure 520DX Green Bullet Mic:
the 520DX Green Bullet so far appears all it is cranked up to be. The lack of a way to set it down is at the moment, the only issue, but I am about to solve that. It has rolled onto the floor a few times and still works so durablity is good, but don't want to keep testing it that way. That raspy Chicago sound I have obtained a few times during a heavy harp-lead break, but I am ordering the hohner hoodoo amp for that tone consisently. So far so good, as far as the bullet is concerned. Happy Harpin'

Comments about Shure 520DX Green Bullet Mic:
its a graet mic it has a dirty tone not really a clear tone i like how it sounds it really heavy it will not break you could slam it on the grond and it won`t break things i dont like the coil cord at the top i havent had mine break but i like 3 prong mics better than the coil but otherwise buy it it a great mic.
Comments about Shure 520DX Green Bullet Mic:
like the mic but not the cable connection at the mic housing. mine came apart in only a few months and i had to return the mic under warranty. would prefer a female 1/4' plug or screw on connector
Comments about Shure 520DX Green Bullet Mic:
Honestly I have never used this mic on a harmonica in my life. I'm sure it sounds decent for harmonicas but what I prefer using it for is vocals. For certain styles of music, like gothic, industrial, metal, it has a sort of low mid, mid, high frequency range that gives voices a slight trash can/telephone like effect. If you want that sort of thing it's worth it. You certainly wouldn't want to use it on pop or country vocals. For that purpose, and I assume harmonicas, it's a great mic. The only big draw back is the 1/4 inch connector, which I assume is there more for live applications. I would love to see one with an XLR connector someday.

Comments about Shure 520DX Green Bullet Mic:
This is a really good mic honestly. I have had mine for a while now like I said in my last review it will get you that crunch that every harp player looks for. However I think this is a major design flaw, the cable is directly attached and you can't remove it. I was playing one night and the cable somehow got pulled out. So I had a screw on connector installed on mine. Other than that great mic, but be careful with the cable.
