I have used this microphone before in a live application and it is by far, compared 2 all other mics that I have used (which is many), the absolute best kick drum mic on the market. And also by the way, apart from maybe 1 or 2 other imitators, this is the only condenser kick drum microphone (I Repeat...CONDENSER...)kick drum microphone, which means that it is ultra sensitive in response to signal source /translation (SOUNDS BETTER THAN) that u can actually put inside of a kick drum. If u where 2 try that with any other condenser (I REPEAT...CONDENSER...NOT "DYNAMIC") microphone, u would surely blow out the diaphragm but not on this 1 as it is designed 2 handle the higher output ranges that a kick drum will throw out. And yes, u do have 2 have phantom power 2 use this mic. U ALWAYS HAVE 2 HAVE PHANTOM POWER 4 condenser microphones. I thought that I would point that out because I am always reading people making out needing phantom power as a down side. If u want pro sound, u will need Phantom Power from time 2 time. It is unavoidable. Sorry guys:) This microphone is on my budget and I will soon own it. P.S. it is also great 4 micing piano......

One of the best sounding kick drum mics on the mar

Extreme punch and attack. Very natural and un-colored. On tour, I like the 91/Beyer M88 combo.

Comments about Shure Beta 91 Bass Drum Microphone:

Working with a limited budget I need mics. that are both durable and versitle. The 91 is a mic. that fullfills both of those requirements.I also like to use the 91 on a pillow inside the kick and use a B52 in the sound hole , it has great attack and if I use it by itself for country which does not require that super low end I can EQ it anyway I wish. Audio people who have come in our facility love it, I would highly recomend the 91 for your " kick drum" needs.

Comments about Shure Beta 91 Bass Drum Microphone:

I have been using the AKG D112 as my kick mic, but recently acquired the Beta 91. Amazing difference! You still have the punch of the 112 but you now have great attack as well. I'm very pleased.

Comments about Shure Beta 91 Bass Drum Microphone:

I have used many kick mics. My favorite had been the AKG D112, until I met the Beta 91. It takes less effort to get the perfect kick than any other mic.

Didgeridoo

Comments about Shure Beta 91 Bass Drum Microphone:

Yes Didgeridoo, I now use this great Mic for live performances when playing Yadaki/Didgeridoo, used one this week infront of a 30,000 plus croud and the sound was great [also thanks to a team of good sound techs which are hard to find, Didge is not easy to balance], I said don't extend the sub bass, emphersise the harmonics, and keep the EQ flat, and loose that reverb you had on the sound check, and they did and the sound was awsome.I am very happy with this mic.

Live drums

Comments about Shure Beta 91 Bass Drum Microphone:

My band played at a pro venue for the first time, and their sound tech put these mics in my kick drums. I'll tell you I've never heard anything so amazing. Each kick was perfectly clear and it had the low thump with the quick attack as if I was using triggers. I have my kick drums wide open with no pillows or blankets inside. Sounded amazing!

This mic is amazing! You can use it for just about anything! whether it be in a kick drum or a piano, this mic just takes the natural sound and makes it louder. very true to low frequency sounds, and for the amount of applications you'll use if for it's well worth the price.

Use this Mic for the attack

Comments about Shure Beta 91 Bass Drum Microphone:

he Beta 91 is excellent for capturing the attack of the kick drum. It doesn't really have enough low end to stand as your only kick drum mic, but that's alright! I like to use it in combination with the Sennheiser 602. Put the 91 in the drum, on a small pillow about 6 inches back from the batter head. Put the 602 into the hole so the diaphragm is just inside the head of the drum. Then mix these two independently. Use the feed from the 91 as your high end punch, use the 602 for your thump. Works great for all styles of music! To the people who post this... I noticed in my previous review, I accidentally put "I have heard about it" which makes me sound like some random idiot posting... I'm going to fix that! Thanks.
