OVERVIEW

Combines superior attack and punch for studio-quality sound.

The Shure Beta 91A is designed for use with kick drums, as well as other traditional low-frequency applications including piano. Featuring an updated microphone capsule, integrated preamplifier, and XLR connection, Beta 91A offers a strong low-frequency response and is specifically tailored for bass frequency applications. The Beta 91A combines superior attack and punch for studio-quality sound, even at extremely high sound pressure levels (SPL).

A 2-position contour switch maximizes attack and clarity depending on application. Select the flat response setting for natural sound in most applications or the "low-mid scoop" setting for a strong low frequency "punch" with plenty of higher frequency attack. Requires phantom power. Comes with zippered pouch.

FEATURES
  • Uniform half-cardioid polar pattern for maximum gain-before-feedback and rejection of off-axis sound
  • Precision-engineered low-profile design features integrated preamplifier and XLR connector to maximize setup efficiency while minimizing stage clutter
  • Frequency response tailored for kick drum/low frequency applications
  • Wide dynamic range for use in high SPL environments
  • Two-position contour switch to maximize attack and clarity
  • Requires no external mounting or accessories for ease of use and storage
  • Furnished with zipper pouch

This mic is truly amazing in a kick drum. It has great low end along with a clear, high, punch. I typically use it by itself, but I have paired it with a Beta 52, Audix D6, and AKG D112 and all the results where different, yet amazing. Try running your EQ flat with a 5k boost for nice punch and plenty of low-end. This mic is excellent and I highly suggest it.

I got this mic back in October and I use internal drum mics. Since I placed this mic in my bass drum I've had nothing but problems at shows. Shure has replaced the mic once already and the new one keeps cutting out as well.. it is unreliable and I should have never taken out my Audix D6

So much better than the "All Powerful" Subkick.

Comments about Shure Beta 91A Kick-Drum Mic:

One of the best purchases you could make to mic your drum kit, also would work great with a bass cab! You would just have to buy a special mount.
Great look, built extremely well, only thing you have to watch is the thin cord that hooks up to the adapter.
This is at a GREAT value if you want some extra punch to your bass drum, and it is $150 cheaper than the Yamaha Subkick, and it fits inside the bass drum easily ontop of a pillow so you don't have this weird looking drum, that is actually a microphonem outside of your bassdrum.

This is for sure a must have mic for drummers. I have a beta 52, and the 91A is a nice addition because it really gives the punch of the kick.

Comments about Shure Beta 91A Kick-Drum Mic:

I'm very pleased with the sound quality of my base drum while using the Beta 91A. I get a nice tone with the punchy attack thats needed to help strengthen the grooves and drive of the band. Even when using a smaller PA system without subs, it preforms very well.
