OVERVIEW

Industry-standard drum microphone and hardware kit.

The Shure DMK57-52 Drum Mic Kit is a conveniently packaged selection of microphones and mounts, designed to offer a core package of microphones for recording and performing drummers at a great price. The Drum Mic Kit includes three Shure SM57 microphones, one Shure Beta 52A microphone, three A56D drum-mounting systems, and a lightweight, durable soft carrying case.

SM57
The industry standard for snare, and a reliable, high-performing choice for toms, the Shure SM57 features a contoured frequency response that cuts through the mix with exceptional impact, while reproducing sound accurately.

BETA 52A
Perfect for the kick drum, this mic derives low-end punch and sonic presence from a carefully tailored frequency response. Equipped with its own pneumatic shock mount, the BETA 52A is designed with an integral locking stand mount for easy set up.

A56D
This universal drum mount system can be used to position mics virtually anywhere -- drum rims, mic stands, even cymbal stands. Designed with captive parts to prevent the loss of individual pieces, the A56D is small, secure, and can be used with any standard mic.

Great Mics, Mounts not so good

By Hodgie Haynes-PDGaG

from Hebron, KY

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

Getting these 4 mics for less than four bills is the best deal out of this package. Using the mics with the drum mounts is when you run into problems. First, SM 57s weren't designed to be mounted directly to a drum, and old school studio cats will always say "never have any part of the mic or the stand touch any part of the drum kit."SM 57s have loose grilles. When these mics are mounted to the toms, the vibration transfers from the tom, through the mount, and eventually to the mic. This vibration will rattle the grill and cause a very audible and awful "farting" sound. If it were not for the grille being loose, there would be no problem.Shure has a fix for this; it involves gluing the grill to the screen with Duco Cement. SM 57s are great mics and sound best on a floor stand, because you have greater positioning flexibility and most importantly the mics aren?t touching the kit.

You're probably going to buy them anyway...

By Rowdy Gleason

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

As an engineer in live and studio situations, I have never been in a situation where we didn't have an extra 57 to save the day, or the ability to use the 52 on the kick or a bass cab. These mics are everywhere and are quite universal to the world of sound engineering... so the idea here is that if you're going to get them at some point anyway, then why not save a hundred bucks and get them altogether?! The mic clips aren't good for 57s, since they are slightly larger than something like an e604, so you might want to invest in some stands dedicated stands eventually. This is a great mic package for starting a small home setup that requires drum miking. These mics will still be very helpful for other applications in case you consider upgrading. The 57s are the swiss army knives. The 52s tend to be used for more bass-oriented applications, although I find that if there is something that innately has a lot of bass frequencies that accentuating it is overdoing it. Each to his own!

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

This is the first set of drum mics that I have purchaed. I based my decision on the fact that the Beta52 base drum mic seems to be mentioned in a positve way in many reviews and is considered a standard. Of cousre pros have their preferences but the 52 is always in the mix for discussion. Also I love SM57s for my dynamic miking needs. they are so versitile, I figured that since I need more of them and I get a better price buying the set, I can use them for other things when not miking the drums. If I want to upgrade to something better, I still have them in my Mic cab. They set up well, a lot easier and more secure than the mounts looked on line. I thought the mounts were great. The sound is good enough for me as a home recording musician. The only down side is that the SM57 is alittle big and might eventually get in the way. I considered the Seinheiser clip on mics, they were small and durable, but for overall versatility I went with this package. The only reason I give them a (4) is because the best set up would proboly be specific mics for each drum rather than all SM57's (However, I think most everyone agrees the 57 is best on snare)and the fact that they are a little big compared to some other quality drum mics out there.

    Shure Drum Mic Package

    By Pinkzebraproductions

    from California

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

Shure has fantastic quality microphones at a great price. The SM57s are nearly indestructible, and the Beta 52 has never failed me. This drum mic package does have it's problems though-The mounts take time to set up. That means if your on a live stage and trying to change them fast, it's very difficult. The mics are somewhat large for a live sound setup as well. The mics are fantastic for the price, but lack a certain "depth" to the sound on many drums (especially those that are poorly tuned, which you encounter often as a sound engineer). If you have the money save up for an Audix DP 5A Drum mic kit. The sound is way better, and the D6 blows the Beta 52 out of the water, but they are also in excess of $600 for the same number of mics. The SM57 is also a more "wide" snare mic than the Audix i5 in my opinion.I now use my SM57s as guitar cab mics (fantastic) and the Beta 52 as a bass cab mic (fantastic). The Audix kit replaced them as my drum mics!

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

This is my first drum mic kit but I have used Shure mics for years. I didn't want to buy them as I had just spent a lot on a drum set. I tested mic configurations with my studio mic's and came to the conclusion I did not want my studio mics doing double duty out on the road. Based on that I made the purchase. I am glad I did, (Note:The studio mics would have worked in place of these if they had to.) But this is a good kit, well packed and organized. The bass drum mic is solid and delivers the sound you want with minimal EQ tweaks, The 3 Shure 57s can be used for a number of configurations limited only by the number of open channels on your sound board and the size of the venue (bigger venue, more mics and amplification required). You also need a bass mic stand! If you want overheads, then add one or two more mic stands.

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

After using lower priced mic packs, I used these on my drum kit and was floored by the sound difference through my digital recorder. Obvious 100% improvement in the quality sound of my kit. You cannot go wrong with this mic set. Amazing sound and great deal. Save the money and buy this kit over the cheaper ones, it makes a huge difference. There is a reason that these mics are the "industry standard."

    EXCELLENT MIC SET

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

The Shure Drum Mic Package is an excellent choice for any style of music to record. Although it makes my band's low tuned hardcore drums sound great, in a full band mix, drum solos up for recording are made easy. The Shure Beta 52 makes for a nice punchy kick drum and the SM 57s are universal mics that can be used to mic either side of the snare, toms, or hi hat. My recording studio is also my practice space and they can double as vocal mics. this is an all around good beginning mic set

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

I've used these for snares, I don't know about these being on toms but they sound great on snares, the kick mic is awesome! big boom! the only thing is mounting them on drums, bad Idea, the grille rattles a lot, You'd have to use a boom mic stand to put the up close.

The bass response on the beta52a is astounding, and although the SM's tend to bleed a lot if you turn the gain down they are perfect. Excellent mics!

Comments about Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit:

This is a great package for drums, but I am a tracking engineer and for my drum sound I like to use 3 SM57s on the 3 toms and one more SM57 for the snare, plus the Beta 52 on the kick drum and 2 KSM 32 condensers for over head mics.
