I bought this mic because of the cost. I was used to SM58 but needed a decent mic to replace a broken SM. I am very happy with it, it has a full sound and is similar to the SM in sound quality. I still prefer the SM overall but this is a great mic if you're tring to save a little money. The switch is ok but I've always associated on/off switches with cheap or non-professional mics. This mic is used with a professional karaoke system so we'll see how it holds up. I hope its as tough as the SM.
The quality is very good for an inexpensive mic.
I was very pleased with the value for the price.

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

I don't own the mic, but I have performed with it. I, being an experienced vocalist was not too happy with it. It seemed to pick up a lot of ambient noise. I like the brand sure, but this mic is priced based on the quality. It is a good mic if you are a starting vocalist or are intending on using it for PA, but once you have become more accomplished, you realize every stray noise. Buy this mic if you are looking for a solid mic, but think about purchasing the SM-58. It has much better sound quality.

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

I didn't want to spend that much so just got this mic. When I compared it to my sm58 I was surprised because it sounded great, it seems to be just as loud and have the same quality of sound! Great mic for the price and the accessories are nice too...

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

I bought this pack to replace a few cheap dynamic mics I got with an On-Stage Stand/Mic pack. Let me tell you, this is a great step up.This package is worth every penny. The mic is great, clear highs and lows and has a crisp sound. Feels very sturdy and well made. The cord is very strong as well, but I haven't put it to much use yet. The clip is a clip, can't really comment about much on that.It gets a 5 stars down the line from me. I will always buy Shure from now on, when it deals with mics!

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

I ordered three of the mic's. I belong to a gospel group. We go to churches when requested. Wanted to try out the mic's to see if we could get better sound than the one's we are currently using. The mic's did not satisfy any of us at all. The mic's we have are cheaper, but they sound twice as good as the PG58's. I sent them back and ordered three more of the cheaper, better sounding, mic's. The sound quality of the PG58's is bad. And you almost had to eat them for the mic's to pick up.

By far the best value out there for a mic, and the cable is decent too. If you are unsure whether or not to spend the extra $20-30 for a Shure, DO IT. any other mic in this price range (& then some) will break and/or sound like poo.

this mic is really worth the money. It sounds great and is very sturdy. I've been jumping around on stage and had it go flying into the ground but it still hasn't got a dent in it and works fine. I have been very happy with it so far. I did alot of looking aorund to get a good mic for cheap and here is the best. great mic

        Good Mic, but please read

        By Bysk

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

Don't be jaded by the reviews that read "As good as sm58". Don't be fooled. The pg58 is a good mic, but it is cheaper for a reason. After using my pg58 for a couple years, I saved up for the sm58 wireless system. There is a world of difference. The sm58 is a much clearer mic and has virtually no feedback. For the money, the pg58 is an awesome mic, but it holds no candle to the sm58. In my genre of music, I do everything from screaming to singing and the sm58 just puts up a better, clearer sound.

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

Well this is a pretty good mic. Mine is about a year old and it's great. It's louder than the PG-48 and it can be used for more than just one thing. I use it in my band and it works but also i use it in my tv production class. The mic picks up the speakers voice well. Not very good picking up voices that aren't speaking directly into the mic though, but it's still worth it. I suggest buying two of these, just for the possibility of back up vocals.

The Shure PG58 is a step up from my radio shack unidirectional mic I had for 8 years. I also use shure mics for my drums. The Shure microphones are extremely durable and this is no less. The mic output is very clear and has a warm sound quality. Definitely get this mic!

I use this Microphone in my band. It produces a very clear crisp sound. For the Money you cannot beat it. They are extremely durable to. I've seen it get knocked over several times, and just fall off the mic stand and the thing barely even dents. great product with the great sound of shure microphones. I give it 2 thumbs up.

        Is there a difference?

        By Anonymous

        from Undisclosed

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

I was hesitant to go with the PG, at first. I've performed with SM58's and SM57's for the past 10+ years. However, my band needed more mics, and I wasn't looking to throw around a bunch of money. I rationalized that Shure doesn't make junk, so I took the gamble. I was not disappointed. I really can't tell a difference. My biggest fear was that the PG would be more prone to feedback, but this hasn't been the case. The best I can tell, the PG58 is an SM58 with an on/off switch and a cable included for half the price. Maybe the SM is a little tougher, but then, I don't make a habit of driving nails with my microphones, so I can't say. Really, I don't know what you get for the extra $**. I'm sold on the PG's.

        Compared w/ SM58

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

The build quality looks the same as the SM58. The PG is actually a tad heavier, for whatever that's worth. The published spec. sheets show this mic has inferior response in the lowest octaves compared to the SM58. (The SM58 is flatter down to 100Hz, then rolls off smoothly and fast.) And the SM58 has a smoother bloom in the upper frequencies. The cartridges are different. Probably, the SM58's is more carefully QC-ed. I hear them both all the time, and I can't hear the difference between them. I HAVE experienced the PG58 presenting feedback when used with a stage monitor in front, but I'm a hack so it was probably my fault. The cord is thinner than one would normally buy with a quality mic. Still, it comes with a cord for $40 less than SM58. A great buy.

great microphone for performance and recording

        See all my reviews

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

The shure pg 58 dynamic microphone was the first "real microphone" that I owned for recording. (This was before I knew much about audio equipment). I plugged it into the computer with a set of adapters and recorded. At close range, the quality wasn't great, but not bad either. The internal "pop filter" wasn't really worth much. But from about 6 inches, no pops were detectable even without a wind screen, which I purchased much later. However, the internal "shock mount" was great, as I dropped this mic probably 3 times and no damage occured. Later, I bought an audio interface for this mic and was pleasantly surprised with the quality upgrade. I actaully preferred the sound of my pg 58 to the sound of my AKG 100, as it had a much fuller, albeit muddier sound. This was probably due just to the nature of dynamic microphones, rather than the quality of the mic itself. After a while, I finally my pg 58 to rest for recording, but won't hesitate to use it for performance. 3 years and its still holding up. It is a versatile mic and a must have for any performer (unless you have the SM58 of course).
