Great for Bass!

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

When shopping for wireless being a bass player i was very worried about getting more tradition UHF of VHF systems as I've read plenty of reviews saying that they lose a lot of tone quality. So going digital was a step i felt was necessary.

I couldnt be happier with this system, works flawlessly, no difference at all between this and a monster instrument cable. The receiver feels like a brick, very well built and sturdy, and the transmitter feels sturdy as well. Glad i picked this from the other digital systems.

A Must Buy

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

This is a great buy! No degradation in tone quality at all. I have a friend who works for Shure and this is the unit he recommended. I was getting ready to buy a more expensive Shure unit and this saves me. Some might complain that the receiver and transmitter have plastic shells but I take good care of my equipment and gig twice a month. I expect to be very happy with this unit for some time.

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

I shopped hard for a wireless that would reproduce bass notes at high quality. This was the only wireless I found that intentionally mentioned "bass," so I gave it a try. I think it's important to note I use three very different bass buitars at each show: a modest quality 4 string with standard pickups, a higher performance 4 string w/active pickups, and a 5-string with extremely high output active pickups..three VERY different output levels. I had to dial the gain back, as instructed...and it sounded incredible. Better than a guitar cable. No scratching, noises, static...exceptionally clear. I was really impressed...and normally, I'm a real pain in the *** about performance.
I only tried it up to 150 feet, and it worked flawlessly.
I didn't check the durability box only because I have just begun using it.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE CHANNEL / SYNC INSTRUCTIONS.
It's easy, but at every venue, you should first let the unit scan for the best channel, then do a sync. It will sound great.

*SPECIAL NOTE-If you have very high output pickups, and like to overdrive a preamp, beware that you might lose that effect somewhat. The high output pickups simply overdrive the transmitter instead...not a pleasant sound. As a bass player, my solution was simple, and resulted in some surprising advantages. First, I dialed back the reception on the transmitter all the way. Then, I hooked up my Sans Amp between the receiver and the amp input. By dialing back the receiver, and using my Sans Amp box, all three bass signals came to the amp input about the same level, a lucky accidental plus. Now, when I change basses, I dont have to re-set my amp inputs.

IN THE END- This was a fantastic find. It works incredibly well...no dropouts, squeeks, squawks, or static... Utterly quiet.
My guitar player is now buying one next week.

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

I love this thing. At first I didnt care at all for a wireless system because it is indeed expensive but I was peer pressured into buying one since everyone in my band is using one. After 2 months researching I decided that for a low price range the best were the digital devices which are the SHURE and the line 6... After reading and listening to demos the line 6 striked me as something that WILL fail AND SOON. The most important thing to me is the body pack. So I went on buying the PGXD14...

Got it, did the setup and BAM! No more cables! Clear sound, simply perfect. No dropouts, high quality signal and I cannot perceive any latency at all being it a digital unit. Now I hate using cables and always prefer to set up the wireless.

The case it comes with is awesome! It comes with energizer batteries!!! Thats awesome! But now im using lithium batteries... looks like they are gonna last a looong time.

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

The technology of these things has definitely come a long way. I've had mine now for about three months, and have gone through about 20 alkaline batteries in the transmitter, so I consider it to be tested. And, the battery life is good. I can go two full nights on one set of batteries. Just make sure you put the transmitter on standby or turn it off when on breaks. I play bass through it, and the sound is crystal clear. As another poster mentioned, just make sure you have the gain set right. When you do, the sound beats any cord. I've played a couple huge outdoor stages with it, and had no signal problems, even when hooked to my belt and covered by a shirt tail. The range far exceeds anywhere I went. It was clean and solid all the way. It is made of plastic, but it seems to be holding up well. You won't go wrong with this one.

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

I've had this one now for a couple of months, and no complaints yet. I decided to go back to using a wireless after a long hiatus without one. The early wireless rigs left a lot to be desired. The sound on this one is great, and beats a cord. No distortion, and full flat response. Just make sure you set the gain properly. I occasionaly play some big stages, and not being tethered to a cord is great. I'm contemplating trying it out on my stage synthesizer also. It is all made of plastic, but it doesn't appear to be that weak.

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

I've always relied on a cable to connect my guitar to my effects/amplifier. It's a bit annoying, like the old telephones with cables to the handset. You're movement is restricted, always having to watch for cable snags that can damage guitar/effects/amplifier.
I tried the Shure PGXD14 unit at home first, expecting to hear the difference in my sound and was pleasantly surprised to find -- I couldn't hear a difference. The sound was clean, with negligible background noise.
At first, I would hear occasional signal drops, maybe once every 15 to 30 minutes. Then, checking the user guide, I found that the PGXD14 would scan available channels and pick the best one to use. After I used the "channel" button to pick the best channel -- I've had no drop outs at all! Once the unit picked a clear channel, I've been using the same channel (at home). One should use the channel scan for every new venue. There are only two buttons on the main unit: channel & sync. I was hoping for a few more bells & whistles -- but, after using this system, I find that Shure put their focus on easy use and getting the guitar signal out, without affecting the sound. I do recommend reading through the user guide, it just takes a few minutes and it can save you the trouble of signal drops, by using the Shure channel scan to pick a clear channel.
Clear sound, no drop out -- essentially, no difference from using a cable. A+++
I even use it a home when I practice. Sounds crazy, but having the freedom to move around, without concern for the guitar cable is addictive.
About my comment about "liteweight construction", it would have been nice for Shure to make the transmitter out of metal or something more durable than plastic -- but the construction of this unit is no different than most. I really don't anticipate any problems due to the materials used to house the product.
I highly recommend the Shure PGDX14 Digital wireless instrument system for stage or home use.

We use this at church and when I plugged it into my guitar I noticed a wonderful sound clarity that was noticeably better than when using an instrument cable! I also eliminated the trip hazard on stage and now I'm able to freely move on stage during the song service.

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

Before I decided on this unit I had a lot of advice from a player/writer who had used Shure wireless products in the past. He strongly suggested I go digital. I took his advice and I'm glad I did. I've been using this unit for about two months now and I must say that I'm very impressed with the quality of sound I'm getting. Some of my band members have noticed the difference in my guitar's clarity. The setup was easy and I had it working in no time at all. Battery life is good and everything works great. If you are thinking about going wireless, think hard about making sure it's digital; definitely makes a difference in sound quality.

Comments about Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for Guitar/Bass:

I bought this out of necessity. i had an old single channel NADY wireless since the early 90's that has worked flawlessly all these years...until NOW. With more and more devices using up all the frequency bands, it finally happened.,,I started having dropouts at certain gigs due to other things operating on my frequency. I play lead guitar in a popular Country/Classic Rock band, and dropouts during solos are NOT OK!! Our sound tech had been telling me for months to just buy a new wireless, but, I just didn't want to drop the $$ when I already owned 2 wireless units (granted they were both 20 years old!). Well, I researched every possible wireless system I could, and this one had excellent reviews. Now I know that those reviews were RIGHT! I love how it uses several channels over a wide frequency range, and then will search for the best one. This is an incredible "peace of mind" feeling, just knowing I don't have to worry about interference. And talk about clear! Night and day difference over my old NADY's! Not that the NADY's were so bad, they are just out-dated. Since I have been using this Shure, I have NEVER had another wireless issue. It is well built, compact, and comes with its own padded case to travel with! I love it! I can't say enough about it! BUY IT! It's worth every penny!!

I have been using the PGXD14 Digital wireless for 1 month now. The first time using it I didn't tell anyone in the band that I had hooked it up. Nobody noticed any degradation in sound, and imagine the surprised looks from bandmates when I started walking around the stage without wires... Pretty cool.. I haven't had any hiccups yet with the system.
Batteries have lasted for two 4 hour jobs before having to be replaced. I do shut it off in between sets (we usually do 3 sets). It is nice to have the freedom to walk around, whether it's in the studio or onstage, without be encumbered by wires. I do find myself occasionally trying to kick the wires, that are no longer there, out of the way...
I use an Ibenez 5 string bass and haven't noticed any loss of signal, even with the open B string...
If this one broke I would have to go get another at this point.
