OVERVIEW

Versatile wireless monitoring for working musicians.

Designed for performers who are tired of the limits of floor wedges, the PSM 400 offers hands-on control and freedom to musicians who have a limited budget for gear. At its heart is the P4M Personal Monitor Mixer--a 4-channel, 2-bus stereo mic/line mixer designed to optimize in-ear monitoring. It allows easy access to and control over each input source. 2 auxiliary inputs can be used to add channels from other sources. Includes the P4T Wireless Transmitter with audio limiter and removable/combinable antennas, P4R Wireless Bodypack Receiver, and E3 earphones.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. This unit is a bit misleading

Comments about Shure PSM 400 Wireless Personal Monitor System:

I have one of these units, and for what it cost, I'm not particularly happy with the performance. There are two main issues: First, interference. I get audio dropouts here and there, regardless of channel used. Second, frequency response. The "specifications" PDF file shows 20-20KHz frequency response. Evidently, they're talking about the front panel jack, which does indeed sound fantastic with the E3's included. The wireless audio quality, however, isn't so hot. It's spec'd at 50 - 12kHz, which leaves a lot to be desired. As a bassist, I lose my bottom end lows on my 5 string, and the mix doesn't have "air" like when plugged in directly. I think singers and others who don't require extended frequency response will like this unit, but compare the "wired" -vs- "wireless" sound quality, you may be surprised what's missing.

Comments about Shure PSM 400 Wireless Personal Monitor System:

I've been using this system at my church for a couple of years now and haven't been let down. My biggest problem with this unit is the range. I've got the transmitter mounted under our console which is across our worship space (a carpeted gym; a/b 35-40 feet away). I get occasional cut outs but this could probably be fixed with some better antennas or just moving the transmitter closer. As for the frequency response, another reviewer wrote that he was disappointed. Well, if you're using the included E3s you'll probably be a little disappointed too. I've used E3s on this unit and it didn't sound great, but once I shelled out for a pair of custom triple-driver in-ears the sound improved considerably. There's still a bit of signal noise (hiss), but keep in mind what you're paying for this system. It's definitely a good introduction to wireless monitoring systems.

Comments about Shure PSM 400 Wireless Personal Monitor System:

I'm a singer and this unit is awesome. I was the first in the band to go in-ear and one by one almost all members have switch. Started with the PSM 200, that is a great unit but limit frequencies in my area for a six member band to I went with the PSM 400 and I don?t regret it. What I do like better about the 400 is that it has the antenna connection on the back of the unit and it is a bnc connector which gives you the ability to rack mount the unit and position the antenna at a higher location if needed.

Great product, if you want to save your ears, get this one for sure. Only bad thing is for the price, it should come with a carring case.
