I have recently jumped into the world of in-ear monitors. I purchased these as an introductory set of ear buds to see if I would even like the isolation from the stage (lead vcls, gtr&FOH!) I have abused my ears with loud stage wedges for countless years and I needed an alternative before I ended up with permanent damage. The scl 2's sounded horrible just listening to music but when I ran a stereo send from a peavey 16FX through a compressor/limiter+BBE into a powerplay headphone amp the results were astounding! It's like being in the studio all the time! There is alot to properly setting up an in-ear monitor system but the rewards are worth the improvement in all areas of your music! Dont hesitate if you are thinking about switching. Do some research and you will save alot. These ear buds will provide a great introduction for a nice price. P.S. hardwired setups are least expensive and have superior sound quality! M.F. you should be selling JUMPAUDIO!

I had owned a pair of Bose tri port earbuds prior to purchasing these. I had loved them, until the left earbud started shorting out just short of a year of purchase. Disappointed by this, I decided to try another brand and reviews of shure products, including this one, caught my eye. Once I got it home and tried it out, I was disappointed. The earbud's are difficult to get in, even when you know the proper technique of how to do it. The reason is the wire that you have to wrap around your ear; its so thick that it never quite bends enough to stay fully against your ear, even after owning it for about 2 months. Another disappointment is the sound canceling; it cancels by sealing off your ear canal, and does it so tightly, you can't hear anything but internal noises, such as your heartbeat (very loud), the sound of your steps through your body and anything that hits the thick wire, making these not good daily headphones for walking to class. The only thing that saves these are the sound quality, which is excellent, but I still prefer the bose tri ports because they had a richer bass. All in all, I would only use these for on stage in ear monitoring, not as regular earbuds like shure marketed them as capable of doing. If you want equal (I think better) sound quality in a daily use earbud, I would probably go for the Bose.

Great In-Ear Monitor

By T-Idol

from San Diego

I bought the E2C headphones (the predecessor to the SCL2)about 18 months ago and used them as my in-ear monitor on stage in fairly loud rock band conditions. Now I'm totally over using a wedge to hear myself. The right ear started to cut out when the wire was wiggled, so I sent it back to Shure under the 2 year warranty. 2 1/2 weeks later, Shure sent back brand new SCL2 headphones, free of charge. They sound great, and Shure totally stood behind the warranty. These headphones take some getting used to, and it's important to try the different sleeves to get the perfect fit. Beyond using these on stage, I love them for long flights as the noise isolation is amazing. The bass reproduction will get much better if you have the right sleeves on that fit your ear canal properly.

MUST HAVE!!

These earphones are great. Very Comfortable. They block out almost all ambient noise. And the sound quality is amazing. The clarity of all the highs and mids is great. The earphones do have a "Burn In" period before the bass is at its fullest potential. After this period, the bass is deep and punchy. If you're using any other earphones, STOP IT! And get these!

Shure SCL2 earbuds

By guitar player-aEHfW

from Granville, OH

I really like these earbuds. They reduce outside noise considerably, and fit in my ears fairly well. Excellent bass response. They should probably come with a wider range of earpiece sizes, but the SCL2 is a great choice for in-ear monitors or just listening to music.

They're Okay....

The sound quality is fine, but all of the "sleeves" are HUGE, and kind of uncomfortable. My ears started to hurt after a while. They isolate pretty well; I'd say they had a reduction rating of 18-20 db (just a guess). They work fine as monitors on stage.

Great For Price

By GretchCatClubset12

For the price that you pay, these are great. Once you find the right sleeve to fit your ear, the sound quality is great.Used the EC2's for in-ear monitoring and also leisure purposes for about 3 years. Lost them. I liked them so much, I went ahead and replaced them with the SCL2.

Great earphones!

By Markus

These are absolutely outstanding. Sound quality is exceptional. Just make sure you get the right "sleeves". Once they are properly fit, these headphones give you great soundscape and relatively flat eq.

Not worth it.

By jakejakejakejake

from Portland, OR

I have had these IE for 2 months and the wire has already let me down. I guess that I will have to use only the left ear with these headphones. I think the round case is the biggest issue. The case isn't big enough for the headphones and its a tight awkward fit that even looks terrible.
