I orded this mic to replace my PG58. I imediately notice a change in the dynamic range. The bottoms were more noticable and the bright a bit more clearer. The on/off switch is a MUST for live events. Becuase of its low handling noise, turning the switch on/off is barely noticable audibly. The switch is non-recessed, sticks up about 1/4" and slides very litely.
I was asked to come help tweak the sound in a small church sanctuary and I brought this SM58S and two PG48 mics. Without even adjusting the eq's I replaced three of their low-end mics with these and it totally fixed the problem of their low-mid 'hum' and high-end 'whistle' feedback. The proof is in the pudding.

Shure has always made great mics. This one is not one of those. It lacks quality and gain. My band mate has an older 58 that blows mine out of the water! I have a 9 dollar NADY that came with a mic stand order. The Nady as far as tone and gain blows this one away although it was a bit noisy.. What a shame huh? I would rather Shure go up on the cost than cut back on quality.

Just what I expected. It's the standard 58. I've used these forever, as well as everyone else. It's not an AKG 414, but gives a good basic sound. I ordered the switch because I use this at my desk for practice takes and I wanted to be able to on/off quickly instead of reaching for the console. (Lazy?) It's a workhorse that won't let you down.
