A year ago I decided to purchase some headphones that not only sound good but also have a reasonable price. While reading forums, reviews, and looking around different websites I ran across these headphones and they had a huge amount of great reviews and and the price seemed reasonable, given the great features that were advertised with the product; so I decided to buy them and I was very satisfied.

Sound:

Sound wise, these headphones have an incredible frequency response (10 Hz 22 kHz) that allows you to hear a crystal clear sound that includes a full and rich bass and incredible mids and highs. The lows, mids, and highs are balanced in such away that allow the headphones to produce great sound regardless of the type of music you're listening to. Compared to other headphones at the same price (like the hd280's) these ones are better in terms of sound quality. 10/10 for sound. Also speaking of sound, these headphones block out a lot of outside noise. I use them for drumming and although they're not the best for drums, they get the job done.

Construction Quality:

Although these headphones are made from plastic, they are sturdy and they will last for a reasonably long time. They are a bit heavy when you put them on. The ear cups are soft at first but after 6 months or so, cracks started to show up on them and now that its been about a year they both have cracks going almost all the way around. The good thing is that you can replace the ear pads for a low price but I would've been happier if they lasted longer. The headband doesn't put enough pressure against the head in my opinion and this is a problem for me especially when I'm drumming because whenever I move my head, they leak sound in. 7/10 for construction quality.

Overall, given the amazing sound these headphones produce and given the price, they are worth it. Whether you want headphones for the studio or headphones that produce a great sound, these will get the job done. Although there are better headphones, given the features and the price of these headphones, they are excellent. Get them.

Although these headphones sound nice, they aren't very comfortable. They feel fine on my ears, but they hurt the top of my head after about an hour of use.
The over-ear design is done well. The phones don't squish my ears like other headphones do. The removable cable is a nice feature.
The build quality is okay, but they have that crackily plastic sound when you move them around.
I would consider these headphones a good price if you can find them for less

A must have for any recording studio

By Gregory Choronozy

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

The first thing I did was to listen to some of my finished recorded song tracks and was amazed at the reproduction sound quality. The type of media and speakers music is played through makes a world of difference and these 40mm drivers do it! Oh and I also am a fan of Shure mics also.
I just received these phones and enjoyed not tripping over the straight cord because they come with a detatchable coiled cord that extends perfectly in my home music studio.
I come from many years working in quality control and must say Shure's QC department was on the job the day these phones came into production. Customer satisfaction.
It's tuff finding quality products these day's but the price is fare, alotta bang for the buck with these babies.

NOT GOOD FOR LONG LISTENING PERIODS!

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

I have owned a pair of SRH440's for over 2 years now and at first I loved them but now I'm looking elsewhere. There is a HUGE midrange bump around 400hz-800hz which, when I first got them, my untrained ears couldn't hear. But once my ears matured over time I noticed that these headphones really aren't very comfortable to listen to for very long. I always end up getting ear fatigue after 20 minutes of listening to them! Even if I'm just listening to music! So due to that reason I would only recommend these headphones for quick references during mixing. But you can't EQ or adjust levels in your mix and have them translate to other speakers very well when using these. However I would take these over a pair of Dr. Dre Beats any day.

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

I wish I could be more articulate when writing reviews. I always try to be as honest and accurate as possible. I just picked these up today because alas, my Sennheiser HD280s were left at a friends house and I had an important session that couldnt wait. I love my HD280s, they are lovely headphones. You can't go wrong with them. But I dont like buying doubles when it comes to headphones. So I went with these. I wasnt expecting great phones, but thats exactly what I got. I cant wait to AB these with my HD280s. I can tell right away that these have a much better bass response. But the HD280s win in high-end frequency response. I think... Still have to AB them. They arent as comfortable as the HD280s, but they're still very comfortable. Love the detachable cable! It locks too! When I first put these on, I was so impressed that I physically jumped out of my seat in shock. Get these! You're going to thank me later. The stereo seperation isnt too bad either. Still phones, but better than a lot I've heard. Amazing deal. I have very good ears, took years to train to know a good set of headphones when I hear one. For the money, these are probably the best deal around. Still love the HD280s, so I suggest getting both. Like me! haha

Although, the cord tangles easy, its a great buy! I love it!
I love these headphones. I bought 3 of them. For the price they are amazing. Definitely better than box store headphones!! These headphones are sturdy and tough as well. Since I have three, I only used the 2 on special occasions and used just one. I don't know how many times I've dropped them... ha ha. Of course I might have to try the Dr. Dre headphones because they're AMAZING, but thats like an expensive set. But yeah, these are definitely good.. Great buy!

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

I cannot use ear buds and prefer over the ear rather than on the ear cans. Sound isolation is Very Good, but they do get hot after about an hour. While great for computer gaming, they're not what you want if you do marathon sessions. Similarly, they're great for Webinars lasting an hour or less. The highs are crisp without clipping and the lows are balanced rather than dominant.

Simply put, these headphones get the job done. They are perfect for recording due to the raw sound output. You hear exactly what you put in. Every detail that was captured in the recording is not manipulated at all by these guys. I knew Shure made excellent microphones but now I know that they also make quality headphones. And for the price, you can't beat them.

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

These headphones are good for their price but i might look else where but for you these might be the best headphones you ever get i highly recommend buying these you won't regret them
It has a detachable cable which is very useful and it is also coiled which is great because when you walk away from your console and forget you have them on(it happens...) it doesnt rip the cord out of headphone amp or mixer or whatever you have. Also, It have a threaded end to attach your 1/4 jack which is a VERY great feature to have so now you can never lose your 1/4 jack. The reason why i gave it an 8 star is because the cord that connects the diaphram to each other can get tangled in your fingers if you scratched your head but besides that, For headphones these cans have alot of features.
The quality, durability, and comfortability with these headphones are great. The top band is very flexible and the ear pads are very comfortable But, At first the top band might be uncomfortable for some people because the lack of padding but its something i got use to very quick. Ive dropped these, wore them in -25(c) weather and they still are amazing. Now you may ask how do they sound? Well for how much they go for i might say you can look else where but its all up to you and what you think sounds good and for me i think these sound great but don't sound amazing. One thing they can improve is the bass, i think it lacks a little bass but thats just me.

First of all, after reading all the comments from people stating these headphones are uncomfortable, I have to ask myself: how are these people wearing them?! These are superbly comfortable headphones! They don't clamp my head like the HD280's. Their sound is incredible as well. At first I thought they were a little bright, then but I realized it was my other two headphones that simply failed to resolve audio as well as the SRH440's. I highly recommend these headphones. Considering the price, it's a no-brainer.

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

I am a person who is extremely careful with the equipment. I have been using music gear and electronic items (My cellphone is 6 years old and still working although I am upgrading soon) that has lasted for more than fifteen years (except headphones) and still in a pretty good condition despite frequent use. I bought these for my guitar processor after my cheaper NADY DJH-2000 headphone died after two years of use. However I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the materials used in manufacturing as these lasted only two years of frequent use despite paying significantly more than my previous headphones. The Treble and the Mid frequency response is extremely good but the Bass could have been much better. There is a noticeable noise at high volume. They are comfortable to wear up to an hour or at most two but not beyond that duration. I wish they were a bit lighter and sturdier.

If the reasonably priced SRH-440s crystal clear quality, comfort, and solid build wasn't enough, you SHURE won't be dissapointed with their customer service. See what I did there?

Seriously, they're great. I had a pair crack at the head band after tossing them in my backpack and going on an Amtrak. After hours of epoxy, I got them together. Shortly after they snapped again.

I explained my situation to customer service at SHURE, and they replaced them for NO COST! Unbelievable service. Great company, I will always be a SHURE guy. Highly recommended!

I Bought These Headphones To Use For Recording Purposes. From The First Use They Click With Every Little Movement Of The Head Or Jaw. It's VERY ANNOYING And Disasterous On Your Recordings. They Are Well Made And I Like The Replaceable Parts But The Clicks Just Make Them Very Dissapointing.
Sound Quality Is DJ Quality. Put Them Next To A Similiarly Priced Sony Pair And You'll Hear What You're Missing !!!!! My Advice Would Be Buy Sony Or Yamaha & Spend A Little More.

My only complaint, and this is a very small issue. The weight of the headphones seems to effect the amount of time I can wear them. I very rarely have them on for longer then an hour at a time, but when I do I feel it. However, they are quality headphones, with a great sound. Perfect for monitoring!
Very solid, just what I have come to expect from Shure.

                Great headphones!

                from Louisville, Ky

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

Overall, I think these are GREAT headphones. I needed an accurate pair, for mixing, and I'm starting to try a little mastering, of my own songs. For someone just starting out, with this kinda stuff, I don't think you can go wrong with a pair of Shure SRH-440. They cancel out outside noise really well, and they sound beautiful. I went back and re-mixed/mastered a couple of my older songs, and they turned out SO much better.
They are headphones....not alot of features to rate. But the unscrewable cord is nice. I read that some people have problems with the length, and the fact that its a coiled cord, neither of which are a problem for me.
They do feel kinda 'wobbly" in my hands, due to the "portablity" fuction, of folding up, and they are quite flexible. But they seem very sturdy.
I DO wish they were a bit more inexpensive. But I think they are a really good deal.
