Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:

I've been testing various methods of doing voice work when traveling, and this is about as compact as I can get. The unit provides phantom power for condenser mics, clean mic preamp, and has a decent level for monitoring on my Sony MDR-7506 phones.

Also trying out AT 2020 mic and these two make a pretty good team. Using an older version of Adobe Audition to apply some compression after recording, and that seems to work nicely. Ideally I like to hear voice processing as I record (I use a dbx 286), so this is a sacrifice for the sake of keeping equipment minimal for travel.

My one issue which I have also read in other reviews online is the level out is very hot. I have to dial the input level through Windows 7 down to 2-3. That said, not hearing any distortion issues. Also the input attenuator makes a big db jump towards the high end which is too hot for the device. That's disappointing. My desire is to have sufficient headphone monitoring level while rerecording, so it's a balancing act finding the sweet spot before the level leaps into the stratosphere. LEDs a bit overly bright.

So, for the time being I'm keeping it.

    Makes Recording Easy

Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:

I bought this product to record demos in my room and it has been extraordinary. I use a Shure SM58 mic to record guitar, vocals, harmonica, tenor banjo and mandolin and the sound quality is pristine. I started running the XLR through my amp and putting effects to the tracks and it yields a very impressive product. I don't listen to the recording while I'm recording so I don't know how well that works. All of the adjustments can be moved easily...I just find a setting that I want and keep it that way. This product is very convenient for recording and using the same mic to play shows. I highly recommend it for someone who wants to start amateur recording.

works great on my XP machine but...

Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:

For vocals and recording acoustic instruments, this interface is top notch..if used on the right system. On my XP machine, using sonar 4 with MME drivers, I get 0% hiss/hum. However, on my Win7 64 bit machine using sonar 8.5, I get an unbearable amount of hiss with every driver option/setting.

Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:

A perfect portable solution that's worlds better than a Blue Icicle. I'm a big fan of blue mics but I am glad that I ponied up the extra thirty or so for this. My only problem is that it's pretty much replaced the preamp I was using before

      Great, but....

      By Zeph-5qDec

Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:

... it seems to only allow 'monitoring' through headphones. Just plugging it into your computer and microphone will record fine but you can't hear the sound while you're recording. That's why it only gets 4 stars instead of 5.

Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:

This device improved the sound quality of my recordings greatly. I get low noise, flat response, and decent control over gain. I am recording onto a laptop with on-chip sound processing, and the noise level was reduced by doing the A to D conversion with the Shure device. My sense is that the Shure X2u together with my Shure SM58 mic are the strongest links in my audio chain.

Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:

Shure lives up to its name in quality once more with the X2u. I get clear, clean sound in voiceover work and in recording my guitar to my Mac. It's pricey, but like with any quality product you get what you pay for.

          Shure X2u XLR-to-USB

Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:

I bought a used Shure X2u and it works great! Love this little device and the service from this company was fantastic. The only thing wrong is very, very minor, the little locking clip does not lock to my Shure microphone the way it is supposed to, otherwise I would have given this a perfect score of 10.
I bought the Shure X2u and it works great! I love the features it has and it sounds great!
Locking clip does not work as it should.
The item was used and it had a small problem with the locking clip but otherwise a great value!

If 48k/24 is all you need, this is a great device. It sounds WAY better than the soundcard on the motherboard. The headphone amp has a lot more headroom. E.g. it's a lot cleaner.
