The PR-8 8-channel microphone preamplifier is specifically designed to enhance the front end of any multitrack digital recording system.
The market size for digital audio interfaces and computer based digital editing has increased in a massive way. With systems available at
very low prices, more and more users are utilizing this technology. One of the main problems with many of these systems is the input stage only consisting of unbalanced line inputs or very low (or no mic pre) gain structure for the balanced input stage and the unavailability of Phantom power.
The PR-8 comes to the rescue with 8 channels of Balanced input, with a full range of gain control from -20dB to +40dB and Phantom power for every channel. This single rack unit can now solve many of the connectivity issues which are raised in a large range of situations, whether in the Studio, home, club installation, or other live sound applications.
- Individual gain control per channel
- Peak Light indicator per channel
- Phantom On/Off per channel

If you're not looking to spend a lot of money and need some pre-amped inputs right away, this will work. It does send a decent warm signal. However, I do have one problem with mine. It will completely drop out when mounted in my Rack setup unless I keep a cooling fan blowing across it constantly. As long as the cooling fan runs the PR8 runs and works fine.
Stripped down features, but perfect for my application, which is 8-preamps in a single rack space with individually selectable gains and phantom power with the XLR input jacks at the front of the unit. This perfectly compliments my MOTO 828 card.
This amp is good if you have no other options, but most likely it will have some problems. i had mine for 3 weeks and i have already had a input go out. i can still use the other 7 inputs, but... hey... i did pay for 8.
This low cost per-channel mic preamp would be perfect for my TV studio application if I could count on it working reliably. I bought 2 of these units and both had problems. The first had one dead channel and two channels that the gain control didn't work. The second unit had somewhat low and inconsistant gain, but all channels worked. Also, the fact that I have to send it to Australia for service is inconvienent!! Mechanically, it is a good, compact design.
Do not buy this!! I took the unit out of the box new and the phantom power did not work, I had to open the case and re-solder all the connections. Terrible quality, cheap parts, bad construction. Wish I spent the extra bucks on a quality unit. Now I'm throwing this away and buying another one. I would not give this to my worst enemy.
8 channels of clean, hum-free mic gain, with a balanced output, all for less than most single-channel preamps. It's worth every penny. I haven't had the heat issues mentioned in another review, but I did have one channel go bad on me.Since I bought this on a tight schedule, I didn't have time to deal with customer service, so I opened up the device myself. I'm glad I did, because there was just a short between the gain control and the peak LED, which kept the channel from working. Separating the two contacts (with the unit unplugged, of course) solved the problem. If you need some extra preamps for that line mixer, or if you're looking to feed a clean, balanced, and uncolored mic signal into your recording card (like the Delta-1010 I'm using this with), this is a great deal, and the quality is good enough for any home studio.
This product adds a warm feel to your signals, however I have had several channels short out over time. I have had it for almost 3 years and there 3 channels I can't use. Also, when you turn the phantom power on it sends a very bad signal through the mix, creating a pop/short sound.
