I am a dyed-in-the-wool Bose L1 user, and not at all a big fan of using the Bose gear with third party mixers. They always seem to induce mud, noise, and feedback problems compared to Bose's own T1 Tonematch digital mixer. The T1's mic & instrument presets are the bomb.

However... a friend brought his new Soundcraft 124FX to a gig over the weekend and used it with his Bose L1 Compact and ran his guitar and mic as well as another player's guitar and mic into this little wonder. Very impressive!

The vocals were clean and crisp as were the guitars. EQ on the vocals consisted of just a bit of cut on the lows and a smidge boost on the highs. Very little of either...just a touch. The reverb, when adjusted properly to a level of "barely noticeable" were very sweet and transparent, not at all cavern-y, annoying, or muddy-ing.

I have owned a number of mini-mixers in the past, and this one, especially for the money is unbeatable. I have not bought one, as I already own three Bose T1s, but if I wanted to add another, this would be my choice.
Small footprint, nice layout, Clean three-band EQ, onboard FX.
Solid case, well built
Come on....a steal!

Am loving it, sound, looks, and quality.
I mainly bought it for Phantom power, but it has so much more. I found a go to verb #15 Hall, really nice, possibly a tad dark, but I prefer this over to bright. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and quiet this mixer is, and at the same time lots of output to my recording device. Possibly more inputs than I need, but better that than not enough. I like the fact that it's got an on/off switch, unlike it's Behringer look a like. The manual had a nice English feel to it, right down to the spellings, and was quit comprehensive. I love the Soundcraft mistique, lends nicely to my old world consciousness.
I had to send the first one back, due to FX knob not working. The next one works perfectly, hopefully for ever. The build seems to be very good. The transformer seems to run a little warmer than most, but never gets hot. All the knobs have a nice smooth feel, especially the slider, nice. It's got the really cool Soundcraft side panels, add to the quality appeal.
I got it on sale, seems to be a steal.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

This great little Soundcraft 4 channel mixer is perfect, at least for what I'm using it for. I am now completely sick of ADD/DDD. Pro Tools & every other DAW system can kiss my ass. I'm a musician & don't feel like having to get a BS to run this shit. I am an old school dude & have Film & Audio degrees, along with being a musician for 30 + years. I'm now running AAD, I only like the capture digitally at the final mix. I still like to print the tracks on tape & then run the tape back through the Soundcraft & mix it down to an Edirol 96/24 pro recorder. Take the stereo mixdown file, put it into the computer (iTunes), or you can take it to Soundtrack Pro just for normalization, if needed. The nice thing about this board & my Tascam 424, is I get no noise floor going in or out. The levels & pre-amps are hot enough, that you do not need any trim/gain on the 424 at all. The board will be your control surface in & out. My only con, was you can not send separate FX to each channel. But, for the price, you really can't ask for any more. If you use it for live, you need an amp. -Thanks for your time

Hopped up Behringer 1202

By Larry Storch

from Mobile Alabama

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

It has to be made at the Behringer factory. The layout is identical. This mixer does sound better that the behringer and I am pleased with it. Their service is also very good. The first on I got crapped out and they replaced it. So far so good for the replacement. You will notice that the knobs need to be turned up louder to get the same amount of output compared to other mixers. The service people said that is normal. Ok. As I said it is a Behringer mixer with some better chips from Soundcraft. I am not a gear fanatic I just like to turn it on and use it. It is simple and sort of reliable. I keep the Behringer handy as a backup. The Behringer is a surprisingly good mixer for the money. I bought the Soundcraft because of the name and history. At one time Soundcraft made very high end stuff but like everything else they sold out and the accountants have taken over. I shouldn't complain, a real analog mixer made in America and built to last forever would probably cost $10,000.

Happy With Notepad 124FX

By Murray Hensch

from Hudson, NH

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I just received my Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects and am very happy with it. I tried it with a flute microphone, an acoustic/electric guitar, and a Fender Telecaster. None of these instruments needed a DI box, so I am very happy about that (the cords were approx 10 feet). The mixer works great. It was on sale for $99.99. I look forward to trying it out for recording (I have only used it to an amplifier so far).

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

so obviously a soundboard is not going to feel good after being dropped once, but my board has been dropped 2x by someone other than myself. Not good. Despite it being abused, it still does well. one of the main outputs is not usable anymore, but what can you expect after a fall onto hardwood? We used it for a monitor mixer. Works very well for that application. Good little board.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

Just received the SOund Craft Notepad 124FX Mixer yesterday. Hooked it up side by side with my Behringer 1202FX as I wrote earlier to do a "A - B". Wow! I compared them using same mic (Blue 200) and same speaker - powered Behringer 208. Used same EQ or very similar settings. SoundCraft was HANDS-DOWN clearer & cleaner. Even my wife and my 9 year old daughter could hear the better difference in my singing voice (when I compared the two) thru the SoundCraft. Now, the Behringer will be my back-up - SOundCraft is my starter! Effects, although digital, were better quality also. Would replace it even at the full price. Not going back! I love alota Behringer stuff, but they take a back seat to this mixer IMHO.
This Sound Craft Notepad 124FX Mixer has the same exact features and lay-out of my Behringer 1202FX mixer. Same exact footprint/size except the SoundCraft is thicker/taller by about 3/8 inch.
Wow. I wasn't expecting much - that's why I'm so surprised. I was just buying a back-up for my Behringer 1202FX mixer which I've used for 3+ years. THe Specifications say "Analog" mixer. And it must be. Very, very clean & clear channels.
Got this on MF's Stupid deal for a great price. 10+

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

Fact - This mixer is the best deal out there. this price for a quality mixer with good effects? Unheard of! It sounds fab, the pres, the line ins, eq... Good, seriously - very good.
This mixer easily competes with much more expensive gear. I feel it easily surpasses other competitors in it's class and beyond.
I owned the Soundcraft LX7 - the 124's mic pres sound the same, clean, clear, and all around good.
I highly recommend this little powerhouse mixer.
Take the time to look over the specs. This little mixer is LOADED with features.
Overall the build quality is good. Treat all pots nicely (plastic shafts). If you take care when using 'em, they'll last.

The bottom chasis feet are molded together with the plastic side caps. The feet are rough and if you're not careful, they might scratch the surface of a table, etc. I'm going to replace 'em with rubber feet (fron the local hardware).
Simply the best deal!!! Look at all the features & effects!

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I've had it about a week, and used it in my studio to record some guitar parts, as well as on a performance (soundscape/ambient noise oriented). It works as it should...but I really mourn the loss of the Aux Return. Inputting the returns from the FX Send to one of the stereo tracks results in loss of control over individual sources having that effect applied, and the effect really does not come through very well even so. I have gone back to using a separate mixer that DOES have an Aux Return and then I bus that signal over to a separate input on the Soundcraft.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

Couldn't get the FX to work, only added some cracked noise when engaged. The rotary FX selector felt loose as if the connection was loose from the main board. Sound was OK, but decided to save more for a higher quality mixer.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I use this to mix mics and whatever else (it has 4 stereo channels too that can be used in mono as well!) into my Bose L1. Unlike another inferior brand I tried with less features, this unit has zero noise and sounds GREAT! I actually ran just this without monitors into my Bose at a gig where we had to fit into a very small space. It worked great. IF YOU WANT A GOOD MINI MIXER FOR YOUR BOSE POLE SYSTEM- THIS IS IT!!!
For its size, this thing has just about everything you would need. Anything else, you would be needing a bigger unit anyway. It has so many channels, and all in a package that is not much larger than lesser 2 xlr input units. The power adapter plug could be made sturdier, but its a minor thing.
This is a QUIET unit! I tried a different brand that had less channels and there was poor sound and noise. This one- ZERO noise, and GREAT sound. It seems that sometimes you do get what you pay for.
I got this for half price on the "Stupid Deal of the Day," but even at regular price, it's a good deal. Extremely quiet and good solid sound quality. I haven't even used the effects yet- a small bonus to have effects built into such a small unit.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

The sound is great...but Soundcraft obviously cut some corners on this one. Failed within 3 hours of use. Sending this one back for a refund.
Has plenty of features. Effects are nice, but lack of mute switches, and lack of XLR outputs leave something to be desired.
When I fired it up, it sounded amazing. Within the first 3 hours of use, it started popping and cracking, as well as picking up a radio station. An hour later, it completely stopped working at all. I expected much more than that from Soundcraft.
If the item does not work after 1 day, it has no value.

      124FX - Great Mixer

      By Steve Daniels

      from Michigan

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

My experience with the product, was great.

My experience with MF (very fitting abbreviation) has been par. Buy 1 or 2 items, return them multiple times to get a product that works, and has not been used / abused by someone then returned, wait around 4 different days playing cat and mouse with the UPS drivers, then have my review moderated by MF because it is not favorable to their company. Even though, it is a great review of the Soundcraft 124 FX. I would recommend this mixer to anyone.
The features are great on this little mixer. The effects, quite useful. The service from MF? Horrible, at best.
The quality of the Soundcraft is just as you would expect in a world class company.

The quality of their distributor, sub-par. They tried to pass not one, but 2 USED mixers on to the consumer, who paid for and expected a NEW product.
For the price I paid, I couldn't believe the value.

And if mixer number 4 shows up in new condition, and is not the junk that someone else returned, that will be a great ending to a month long experience of buying 1 piece of equipment. (For some strange reason, my reviews are not being posted.) It is almost like MF does not want my experience to be shared with their potential customers. Odd.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

This is going to be my main mixer. I cannot say enough good things about it. If you need a mixer with fx, then I would go with this mixer.
After buying the SC EFX8, I wanted the 124FX to use for a duo. I'm a beginner, but it's exactly what I wanted from an effects standpoint. You will need a cheat sheet handy for the presets (no big deal to me) since they are not listed on the board. The buttons are kind of small which is OK with me. Add a USB connection and it would be perfect to me.
Built sturdy, should last while under normal usage. The lexicon fx are very good.
Excellent value!!! Bar none, excellent value....

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I've rated this mixer in the High Quality range because it really does exceed my expectations for inputs, transparent sound, useful signal routing, compactness with out sacrificing quality and did I mention a great value for the money. Isn't that what its all about? getting the biggest bang for the money spent!
I recently needed to "downsize" my very large mixer to something smaller without sacrificing quality.
Enter the "Soundcraft notepad 124/fx mixer". As others have stated, this unit does and has everything I need for a home studio. It is very "Quiet" in the recording chain. It took me a couple of tries to get my recording and monitoring flow setup correctly ( had a little signal bleeding for a time), but I got that straightend out and am very happy with the results.
What can you say about a well priced, good valued mixer? buy it and try it!
Very sturdy, great that it has a built in on/off switch. Effects seem to sound good ( use some reverbs so far).
For the Money, a terrific buy!

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

A handy, simple mixer that has a wide range of use- both in setting and style. No question about it being one of my better equipment purchases.
Has phantom power, plenty of effects, and plenty of ability for changing effects levels and outputs for different situations.
It seems heavy, which often means well built, but it seems like a few of the knobs seem a little cheap and could be pulled off. (Not that any have come off in my few weeks of ownership, but I could see that being a problem in the future) Everything else seems well built.
With this mixer at this price, it's all about value. Great buy.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I gave "9" ratings only to keep things in perspective. This isn't a Neve. It's great in it's own right for sure. My only regreat is that it's no longer in production.
This is a great little audio mixer with good effects. I use it as an auxiliary mixer for live radio theater. It's nice to have basic on-board effects when needed. The effects are probably not the best or most comprehensive but no apology is needed for their extreme usefulness. The remaining evaluation is of the mixer in general. The Soundcraft NotePad 124FX has 4 excellent mic inputs with all the controls necessary in the field, and again as an auxiliary board in the studio. It's top notch! It has four stereo line inputs with limited controls but I've never personally needed to EQ line inputs. In a word, what it doesnt have, it doesnt need. I've saved the best for last. The build quality is nothing less than great. I have an almost identical unit made by Company B with the ear logo and the Soundcraft is much more solid and a little beefier as well. My only desire would be to have mute buttons on the channel strips. Nothing else is lacking for this level of equipment. I highly recommend the NotePad 124FX. They've gone out of production so you need to act quickly if you want one. I don't see why you wouldn't. There are many uses from small clubs to radio theater and use as a sub mixer for mics requiring effects and or their own master control. This is definitely a winner.

I feel the value is exceptional at this price---you just can't believe the quality and features for what it costs---it's on sale ---get one while they last
I have been very happy with this new mixer---the quality is very solid and the features are excellent--for the price it can't be beat---I do find that the effects selector jumps to a highr number sometimes as you ar selecting an effect # ----this could be a defect or just a design error---I don't want to return it and go thru all that just for this issue---If I set it slowly and carefully there is no problem, I stays where its set .----It would be nice to have EQ on the line inputs because keys sometimes do need eq ---however having 4 stereo line inputs is cool---and four mike inputs too---It fits my needs very well for a small band live sound situation ---Get one --I would recommend it to others

      Notepad 124fx Mixer

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

For what I was trying to do, these units filled the bill. Perfectly.
Bought two of them. I have a music room with just about everything you can think of to play with, and I needed to consolidate inputs to my mixer. Running out of places to plug in and mic cords were too short. So, these units consolidated mics in one area of the room and left a couple of inputs for guests, and the other consolidated keyboards and guitar stuff for input in to my RC50.
Nice quality. Solid construction, well thought out.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I really like this unit. I will be using it for car shows and small live sound events for years to come.
The unit has a very low noise floor; very little hiss. Overall the sound is very good. Construction is very good. The knobs are well centered and align very well with the detents. It is a high quality unit that is well thought out. The only compliant I have is that the Effects send is post fader; I typically like a pre-fader send for the effects or monitor sends. I adapted and use the unit as is. I have recoomended it to others and they have purchased the unit and all like it.
The quality is very high on this unit. The fit and finish is very good. Details like the knobs being well centered and alinging very well with the detents show that the qaulity is very high.
