    Less Than Expected

    By Steve Bailey

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Stanton C.500 CD Player:

I had a Stanton C.501 that I loved and used heavily for over 5 years. It reproduced music well and worked reliably. When CD-2 (the right-hand unit) started having trouble reading some discs, and the C.501 model was no longer available, I bought C'500 to replace it - thinking it would be similar. Wrong!

Right out of the box the C.500 had trouble reading discs (and, strangely, the right-hand unit had lots of trouble). Delays in reading CDs were common, and some discs, including retail CDs, had to be put in 2 or 3 times before being recognized. Some CDRs - that had been played on the C.501 for years - wouldn't register at all.

Another problem that I experienced from the outset was with the jog-wheel and counter. Two of the four times I used it, the counter failed to read my adjustments. I had to start the disc, stop it, and re-adjust the wheel to get the reading for my selected que point.

The up-side is that Musicians Friend made returning the machine and upgrading to a different brand painless!

This rack-mountable dual-disc CD player is available at a great price, but it certainly turned out to be less of a bargain for me than I had hoped. I play as much as 20 hours of music a week but the equipment tasks are neither sophisticated nor demanding, consisting almost exclusively of straightforward CD play. Nevertheless, it was obvious almost immediately that the Stanton C.500 was not adequate to my usage requirements and preferences.

    Horrible !!!

    By Brett Necessary

Comments about Stanton C.500 CD Player:

What can I say !!?? I only had this 4 months and one of the cd players crapped out. The cue points aren't consistent , jog wheels are too sensitive ..... the list goes on..... It looks like a cool starter unit with potential, but spend your hard earned cash on something else. I was very dissatisfied with it all around !!

    why no mix function?

    By Witness The Fitness

Comments about Stanton C.500 CD Player:

This is a perfectly good unit for CD mixing. It lets you beat-match, cue, etc. EXCEPT there's no mix function to fade from one song to another, which means you have to buy an external mixer for this baby. Very annoying. Newer versions out have the mixer built in, plus a mic in line, and a 3-band EQ, so I'd go with that instead.

Comments about Stanton C.500 CD Player:

ive had this unit for about a year now and it most definitely took care of my needs for the time being, it has given me much aide in becomming familiar with how to deal with spinning cds...having said that its a great starter unit...the only issue ive had is; the odd time it seems like the pitch will just drop down without touching anything

    Failed Out of the Box

    By MWGouger2008

    from San Jose, CA

Comments about Stanton C.500 CD Player:

Based on my very first experience with this unit I can't recommend it. It failed to read the first CD-R I mounted in Deck 1. Apparently failure to read also constitutes failer to eject. I never could get my disc back out of it and returned it with the CD still mounted. In Deck 2 I mounted a factory CD and it would read it, but failed to execute play.Returns are easy, and I had a back up in place, so in this case it was only a minor inconvenience. However, I would advise steering clear of purchasing this item if you're serious about needing a reliable deck.
